  1. I got bored at work this morning so I decided to start to make a new body for my 6 string So after the saga of the last 6 string build I thought I'd just keep it simple Here's the original And here's the new shape I've used a offcut of the White Macassar Ebony veneer from the other build the rest of the body is Pine to keep the weight down this time! I'm probably going to just Danish oil it so it keeps quite light in colour........ 👍🏻
  2. I have sorted my pink torpedo up and I don't think it looks too bad I wasn't happy with the contrasting grain on the top so I sanded it back then wire brushed the top to open the grain a bit then repeated the process and im a lot happier with it now!! Just waiting for the pickups ro arrive before I do the control cavity so i get the knobs in the right place!!..... 👍🏻
  3. The method I use is a metal file in downward strokes at just off a 90° angle to the top and it comes off nice and easy with minimal splitting or if I'm being lazy then its a utility knife 👍🏻
  4. Yeah they usually are a tight fit but normally a little tap is all they need to go in! If they are still too tight then a bit of sanding will work 👍🏻
  5. Ok you win!! 😁
  6. After I've done the fretboard etc the remaining bits of the build I'm fine with but as you said after all the hard work of building the body I don't wanna screw it up but this build has been dragging on so I just need to get it finished now! 👍🏻
  7. Yeah a little bit I'm gonna finish my 5 string $$ build, I'm just trying to build up the courage to fit the truss rod and then do the fretting (never done it before!!) 😳
  8. I started building my neck-thru in May '18 so I think I should have this build title!! 😁
  9. I thought I'd give the ski slope one more try What does everyone reckon?
  10. Update on the pink torpedo-up repair! Tried both ideas 1. Infill with oak (as expected it looked a badgers derrière!) 2. Ski-slope (just couldn't get it to look right!) Then a 3rd idea hit me what if I rout the top cap and infill with sapele? Please excuse the pic! 👍🏻
  11. Oooohh now that is stunning!! love a bit of spalted beech!! 🤤
  12. @kodiakblair your collection looks awesome! Just out of interest did you do anything with the body you got off me?
  13. It felt really weird for a few weeks but then it got a lot more comfortable but I didn't play the bass it was on for ages because I got my Warwicks which I played a lot more and it didn't fit them and now I've added a pickguard to that bass I need to make a new one 👍🏻
  14. I just used DC-fix matt black self adhesive vinyl from B & Q 👍🏻
  15. No you are correct I have taken inspiration for jabba's and the Ibby BTB style headstocks? Yeah I get what your saying regarding the size of the headstock and on a different bass it looks fine (I had it on my first 5 string build) but I just dont particularly like it on this build, I'm reconsidering the saddle positions and thinking of using a standard type bridge instead and perhaps go for gold hardware for a change? 🤔
  16. The darker line is the original (Ibby copy) and the pencil line is what I'm thinking of doing instead I'll just have to glue some extra on the headstock and reshape it 👍🏻
  17. After I finish my $$ build I need to get back to doing this build I've been thinking about how to go forward with it..... I still dont like the headstock on it I think it looks too small for the body shape so I've been having a little play around and I've come up with this shape which isnt radically different but I think it's better?....
  18. My favourite headstock goes to our very own @Jabba_the_gut I just think its a great looking headstock
  19. They do now you mention it! 😂
  20. Congrats on being in the No treble top 5 readers basses of the week well deserved!! 👍🏻
  21. Yeah I think I'm going to do the overhang on the fretboard, I very rarely play up the dusty end so I think it will be fine 👍🏻
  22. I couldn't sleep so I thought I'd make a start on the pickguard/fretboard extension here's what I've come up with?....... I think @Pea Turghis right a ski-slope down from the end of the fretboard would probably be the best option but I do like the idea of a pickguard it makes it look slightly different? What does everyone else think?....... 👍🏻
  23. Ooooohhhh thats a good idea that could work!! Its a rosewood fretboard that had been painted matt black before I got it so it would be easy to blend it in 👍🏻
  24. If I go down the pickguard route I'll make it out of wood and stain it a sapele/Mahogany colour so its in keeping as such? I really wanted to keep it a Double buck
  25. I'm thinking of doing a different style than on my refinish? I need some opinions please I'm thinking maybe a darkish wood Jazzman style? 👍🏻
