I decided to keep the maple fretboard but the neck has been painted Satin Black and its going to have block inlays aswell Next job is the control cavity........ 👍🏻

I finished doing the contouring and gave it a quick wipe of danish oil to see how much sanding I've missed........ 👍🏻

Thats the great thing about making your own basses (I'm using the plural because once you've got the bug you will definitely make more! I'm on about build 8 or 9! 😁) you can change things and let them evolve! And love the spalted top btw!!...... 👍🏻

I'm preferring the new design it's going to be a nice bass when finished! I agree with Mick you'll really struggle to come up with a completely unique design, I just take aspects of other basses I like and kind of mix and match them till I'm happy with the design...... 👍🏻

Love the neck on the McNash! I did the same on my 51p build and I'm gonna do it on my new 4 string build....... 👍🏻

Started doing the chamfer and shaping of the top today its coming along nicely still a long way to go tho! Just got to blend the arm carve in with the chamfered edge!......👍🏻

I've got some of the Oak left I could thin it down and do a matching headstock like on my $$ build.....👍🏻

The more I look at it I'm thinking your right it needs at least a rosewood fretboard but I might stain the neck walnut or something like that?...... 👍🏻

I think I'll leave that for the likes of Andy to build! The top has got a nice bit of a grain pattern to it which I think will really look good when grain filled.... 👍🏻

I'm using the same shape that I planned to do the 6 string body but I've taken about 20mm out of the middle to keep the dimensions right Gluing up the body blank which is Sapele and the top is going to be Oak with a Ebony-esque demarcation line between as I really liked that combination when I did my $$ build The top is going to be Black grain filled again then just danish oiled, I'm thinking of maybe doing a chamfered edge on it instead of rounded for a change? I'm going to go for a full paddle head flat headstock neck I'm not sure which would look better Rosewood or Maple fretboard? As far as pickup config I'm not entirely sure I'm leaning more towards a single MM but that could change? hardware will probably be Black?.....👍🏻

I like the gold hardware idea but I think I'll leave this how it is When I get round to doing my 5 string P that's going to be Satin Black with Gold hardware....... 👍🏻

I've had a little play with the pickguard shape and I'm quite liking it...... 🤔 The next question is White or Black?...... 👍🏻

Also on my P version I'm thinking does it need a pickguard? as I keep looking at and think it looks a bit bare? Obviously this is a very rough design I need to tweak it alot...... 👍🏻
