  1. It all depends on what look your going for, I have used them on my jaguar build which was a painted finish so it needed a lot of filing and sanding and on my fenderbird build which I've embraced the knackered/rustic look..... 👍🏻
  2. I'm going to tarnish the pickguard so it will probably end up having a lot of different colours in it but I don't know if I should make the control plate out of galv aswell of have it tarnished chrome?? 🤔
  3. I've sanded it back a bit because it was a bit too dark for my liking, tiday I thought I'd make a galv pickguard to see how it would look?...... 👍🏻
  4. Quite a few of my builds I've used reclaimed scaff boards the only problem with them is they are very prone to tear out but its nothing a bit of sanding can't sort!...... 👍🏻
  5. I am toying with the idea of headless as I haven't got one as yet? 🤔
  6. Heres some pics of the kinda distressed look The top has had a wipe of danish oil on it but the back hasn't yet Opinions please..... 👍🏻
  7. For some reason you don't really see alot of barncaster basses and I like to use reclaimed timber so it seems a natural style for me to do, I did think about a MM pickup at first and did a mockup of it originally.....👍🏻 (That is just a neck off another build) I didnt know if I should go all out barncaster and have a number plate pickguard?
  8. I had a thought maybe even an epiphany of sorts why go to the hassle of trying to make an reclaimed damaged old scaffold board look half decent ready for painting by filing and sanding and more filing and sanding etc instead I'm going to embrace the rustic charm of the timber and finish the body in a kinda barn wood (as I really like the barncaster look!!) style with slightly relic'd hardware bit like the fake barrel top guitar builds I've done. I've started doing the body I'll take some pics tomorrow for your opinions....... 👍🏻

  10. Thanks any input or idea's are always welcomed! I'm not sure whether to do a tune o matic Bridge or just a standard fender type? The headstock is probably going to be Tele style This is the pickup I'm thinking of going for? Yeah using old scaffold boards is great for playing sole!! 😁
  11. I feel the same way as you the headstock is awful! I'm thinking with a tele style headstock the weight will be reduced so it might not want to neck dive as much?..... 👍🏻
  12. Started a new build today its going to be a slab body fenderbird Again the body is made out of a reclaimed scaffold board (I can't remember who posted the pic?) but its going to be like Taka Hirose from feeder's bass but I'm thinking of doing it Matte White instead of black with a maple/maple neck probably not matching headstock tho But without the bridge cover and I cant decide if I'm going to go for a MM or a Mudbucker style pickup?....... 👍🏻
  13. Virtually finished now just the soldering, string up, headstock logo and a set up to do...... 👍🏻
  14. Just a quick mockup inbetween coats...... 👍🏻
  15. I get what your saying re the lower horn but I like the slightly longer lower horn on this design, where as on my neck thru build a stubby lower horn does look better so I think I'm going to stick with the design at present but once I've cut the body if I decide to I can always shorten it? P. S 🖕🏻to Ernie ball and any other company (especially them that shall not be named!!) that gets irritated by hobby builders borrowing their designs to build an instrument for themselves!! But fair enough if you start commercially building guitars..... 👍🏻
  16. Ha ha bit of both I've done it so the all the sizes of the fretboard etc are the correct size and the centre line you can see is 34" so I can check the position of the bridge/pickup are accurate but it might end up being a 5er not sure at the moment Hopefully when I print the body off it will look better this time?..... 👍🏻
  17. Had a bit of a play on inkscape and heres a actual to scale pic so I think the dimensions are looking better?.........👍🏻
  18. Putting this build on hold at the moment as I cant get the dimensions to look right! Need to spend a bit of time on Inkscape I think!!....👍🏻
  19. Not been able to do much on this because my paid work is getting in the way! But I've decided its going to be Matt Black with Red pickguard with matching headstock, getting the paint on monday so hopefully I'll be able to get on with it next week!?!... 👍🏻
  20. I kind of wanted to keep it a bit of a traditional Jag bass style But I'm now thinking what about Black with solid Red pickguard (not pearloid or 🤮 tort!!).......👍🏻
  21. If I go grey it will be this kind of colour (matte metallic) ..... 👍🏻
  22. Heres a quick mock up before I start painting the body..... I need some opinions on the colour I'm torn between Black with either White or Black pickguard or Gunmetal Grey with either White or Black pickguard?..... 👍🏻
  23. Well they do say idle hands and all that!! 😁
  24. I decided to make a jag bass as I've always liked them but never got round to building one The body is going to be Satin Black with a White (maybe Black?) one piece Mark Hoppus style pickguard, I haven't decided if its going to be a one volume knob or tone and volume? The body is made out of a reclaimed scaffold board that I've sanded and filled The neck is a tinted Maple/Maple with Black block, binding and matching headstock , Chrome hardware, will probably end up looking very similar to this one...... 👍🏻
