  1. These are just superb pickups. I fitted these to all my Fender Japan basses.
  2. Just remembered that I once went to a Tom Petty gig in the company of Jim Lea.
  3. I have had the honour of playing with David Gilmour, Ronnie Spector, Dave Mattacks and a few other rather better names than myself. Before then, when in a band in Brighton, I shared the stage (pub floor) with a young chap, a very fine player (rather obsessed with Dave Weckl) who went on to be the drummer in an outfit called Bush. I don't think they did much here but they sure did in the US. Robin Goodridge. Nice guy and excellent drummer.
  4. My wonderful old 1966 Precision. It's the best one I've ever played, but it's too valuable to take out on tour. I do use it for the odd local gig. The picture is about 1994. I've owned it since about 1984 or so. Best £260 I ever spent.
  5. This was a house just down the road. Unhappily, the sofa wasn't the colour specified on our rider. 🙂
  6. All sounds very do'able. Maybe, in the fullness of time, you can crash with one of the other band members after a gig.
  7. Trades Club at Hebden Bridge.
  8. Late to the party. I was the VAT Manager for Vodafone Global for a few years. Very odd place to work.
  9. That one is a bit extreme, I grant you. Generally, I do my best to stay well away from excitement.
  10. I depped with a band some years ago. One of the guitarists was done for murder, and storing his poor victim at a self storage place. He also 'visited' the place until asked to clear the space because of the smell. He got 30 years.
  11. It's not a 'guarantee' of quality, but the Mesa name is (IMHO). I confess I've not used every make of amp there is, but it's head, shoulders, chest, groin area, hips. knees and ankles above those that I have.
  12. Couldn't agree more. I have always bought my Mesa amps because they have been exceptional. I may be a Mesa artist now, but only my TT-800 amps have been bought that way. Of course it's always subjective but I have a spent a good amount of cash on a Boogie amp, but just once. In the last 35 years I have basically used 3 amps. I reckon I've spent far less than others have, chopping and changing.
  13. The band I have been in from college (1976) hasn't broken up, although two of the four members have died since our last gig.
  14. I have. I was depping in a band that was on its last legs. Two of the band suggested a get together with a keyboard player one of them knew vaguely. Within the first bar of jamming we all hit it off, and it has never been anything less than that since. It was a remarkable moment that has continued. Probably the most fortunate experience of my musical life, I reckon.
  15. I have quite a sizeable list of businesses against which I have an embargo. Some from a moral standpoint and others for poor service. My family regularly pull my leg about 'the list'.
  16. I would question whether it ever was 'gloriously perfect' when you got it. The only way it could be 100% attributable to the tech was if you could have seen him do it. 100% is a statistical certainty, and you can't say that, however much you may suspect. Even if you are sure, what would they say? "Yes, I noticed that when you brought it in". Whether you suspect them or not, using them again is your choice. You seem to like the work they did, so enjoy a great instrument.
  17. Nothing happens unless Frank says so.
  18. I've got a couple of Uk tours this year, Nik. If I'm in your neck of the woods you'd be welcome to swing by and check them out.
  19. I bought a 62 reissue when they first came out around 1983. I sent it back as I couldn't live with the dreadful supposed tort plate. It looked just like this. Horrible.
  20. Hello from close to Pompey.
  21. My amps have valve pre-amps and the gain is at about 1 o'clock. Just enough to add some character to the sound.
  22. Remarkable amps these. I absolutely believe that the sound you want is in there. The valve front end and mos-fet power stage is a brilliant combination. A really commanding presence on stage and at a great price. On top of that you are dealing with a very fine and respected Basschatter.
  23. Chris bought a bass in bits from me. Deal all done in a matter of minutes and in exactly the manner you would expect from someone who is highly respected in this community. If I say I never want to deal with him again, it's only because I really need to control my GAS. Some is more easily contained than another!
