I don't take much notice of the 'X people an hour are viewing this item'. I've seen astonishing overpriced cack, and still people are viewing it. It could easily be reflectoporn fetishists closely examining every object on ebay which has a shiny surface on it. Other things that are good and very well priced still seem to sit around forever despite large numbers of people viewing the listing. Ebay seem to go over the top with their inducements to buy. When I got outbid on an Encore P-bass that I put a silly bid on in the expectation of taking it to bits and practicing rebuilding on it, I get all these exhortations to bid quickly and don't let it get away. Hmm.... Yes, I think I am going to let that one get away from me if someone else is actually prepared to pay for it.

I like simple, melodic, solos. Here's an example of one of my favourites. Solo starts about 1:50. More examples would be much of the guitar solos on Shine on you crazy diamond, and Frank Zappa's more melodic moments, e.g. many solos on Roxy and Elsewhere. Solo starts around 2:20. Loads of others. Don Felder's (I presume) solo on 'Try and Love Again' is a short, poppy, solo, but I like it. George Harrison's "Something" solo is a bit of a popular choice, but it is a very nice solo.

What is a CJM Fanndec when it's at home? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-STRING-FRETLESS-THRU-NECK-ACTIVE-BASS-GUITAR-CJM-FANNDEC-UK-/181205449004?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2a30afb92c I'm not going to buy it, but I think it looks quite nice. A quick google shows that it's a UK brand but the instruments are made in China. Out of curiosity, are they any good?

I've noted in a For Sale thread that people were discussing their Chapman Sticks. Disclaimer: I'm not going to be buying a Chapman Stick, I'm just curious. Any comments on what these instruments are like to play? Any recordings/Youtube videos by forumites?

£299 starting price for a Johnson MM copy
Annoying Twit posted a topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Well, it does include a small Peavey practice amp and a dodgy looking stand. Though, IMHO, the bass itself looks quite tidy for an el cheapo. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/guitar-johnson-by-axl-/121166882175?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c361be57f -
Something similar was happening with bicycles. The same "do not bid without authorisation" and a BIN price. The bicycles were all high end. Personally, I believe this is a scam. If you look at the seller's other items, they include a number of expensive items all with the above pattern, and a few clothes. I see that the seller includes a bicycle in their other items, so it may be the same scammer as previously discussed on bike forums. I suspect that the scam is to advertise cheap items, and get the victim to transfer the monies by bank transfer. I'll leave it up as an exercise to the readers as to what happens (or doesn't happen) next.

sh*t-o-caster toilet seat bass
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Would I be able to retune it so that there's an interval of a turd between the strings? -
Looks a very good price. However, please check that it's actually MIJ as claimed. (I have no reason to believe that it's not, but haven't looked at the listing carefully). Korean, not Japanese, as far as I've been able to check. And it seems it might have a plywood body. But, I think this Washburn with a £10 starting price is a bit more interesting than the standard ebay bass listing. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WASHBURN-B2-BASS-GUITAR-/121164416392?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item1c35f64588 -

Best bass sold on ebay for less than £50
Annoying Twit replied to Annoying Twit's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
In the last 2 months I have bought a Dean Edge 1 for £35.00 and an ESP B-204 FM for just under £55.00 from the Bay. Both near mint and for the money are pretty good. The ESP needed some tweaking, it had been kept in the guy's garage but the Dean was pretty much spot on. Happy bunny.
Pics? NBD thread? Edit: I quickly searched for cheap Dean Edge basses. There are these 'three'. http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c3513ba62 Sold for £49.66 There's this one, sold for £40.01 http://www.ebay.co.u...=item1c3566e454 And, there's this one, currently going for £35.01. http://cgi.ebay.co.u...em=121161578373 The problem is, they are all the same bass being sold by the same seller. Is this a seller having a lot of trouble with non-paying buyers, or is it a seller who needs to set the starting bid at the lowest that they'll accept? -
I'm still not being allowed to log in. Serious something going down it appears.

I'm still having problems. I can't log in, and it won't let me retrieve my password.
How about this one ? http://bit.ly/16AVXNG
A bit far away for collection only, even though the seller has told me where he's prepared to go to for exchange. I'm watching it carefully though.
Crafter acoustic. 99p http://www.ebay.co.u...=item33849277ff
My cynicism was founded. I'd like to issue a challenge. Who can find the best bass on ebay, gumtree, basschat classifieds, etc. that sold for less than £50. In theory, this should be a bass where it looks as if the postage is low enough so that the bass could have been bought for the sale price cash on collection. So, this Vintage Advance Jazzer is a bit borderline with £30 postage. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/vintage-bass-guitar-/141038448509?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item20d68bef7d And the bass should be in the UK. So, for my entry, I'm going to go for this Yamaha fretless. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/yamaha-bass-guitar-Fretless-/231032606776?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item35ca9dd038 Dunno if anyone will find this interesting enough, but at least with the strong words from the head honcho about keeping discussions polite there's minimal likelihood that someone will follow up just to call me a c***.

I'm not sure about these two. I think the ironic use of 'Jap Crap' in the title of this thread may not be quite so ironic applied to these two. But at least they're cheap and perhaps a collector would want them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-OLD-BASS-GUITARS-FOR-SPARES-OR-REPAIR-MADE-IN-JAPAN-/111146381861?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item19e0d73225 -
