I've been away for a bit, but some basses just keep on coming back onto ebay again and again. I don't know much about them.But. compared to the generic copies that many internet brands sell, at least it looks as if Skylark guitars are trying to do something slightly different Edit:Or maybe some of the other internet only brands have some fairly distinctive stuff too.

Another listing that could be better. Blurry photo-o-rama. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Stunning-Tanglewood-...=item4aab2b186b -
Any comments on this? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:B:WNA:GB:1123 As apposed to most other threads I start on here, I'm actually interested in buying this and really want to know what people think of the bass and price. I'd be interested pretty much at the starting bid + p&p, not if it goes much higher. Yes, I know that listing it here could create competition, but not being sure about it, would prefer to canvas opinion first. Edit: <not serious>Man, that's an unimaginative headstock</not serious> Edit: <serious>Not sure about it being sent through the post with only the soft case and a bit of extra internal bubble-wrap. So will give this a miss I think</serious>
also mount on a wall tied to a bit of string connected to a machine head?!
I wonder what the loop of string on the volume (tone?) knob is for. Perhaps the seller hangs his basses up on the wall by daisy chaining them from machine head to volume knob to machine head and so on. -

Just put it up, and if anybody wants to know anything incredibly obscure like which brand it is, then they'll ask!

I know that words change meaning depending on the context in which they are use. E.g. in botany, a tomato is a fruit, while you'll find it in the vegetable section of a supermarket. But, I wonder what the word "rare" means on ebay. Certinly it's nothinglike the dictionary definition.

Fender Precision bass the listing title says. It was passed down to him and he doesn't know much about it, we're told. Then he says that the decal may not be original.
Removed. How annoying. That was really quick. Time for someone to set up a UK based Lawsuitbay where these ace instruments can be bought and sold without fear of a crusty old Rick employee pulling the plug. It's getting ridiculous and I wouldn't be surprised if he has one eye on this thread/site given how easy it comes up on a "Rickenfaker" google search. Having now owned 2 lovely Fakers I can totally understand why Rickenbacker do this sort of thing. Quite a lot of those 70s companies proved it isn't the hardest thing in the world to copy this style of bass for relative peanuts.
Didn't the listing actually mention the "R" word? I certainly don't have any problem with the company in question defending the use of its own trademark. For the same reason I don't like 'fakers with fake branding on them.

Stagg double bass pedal

This was just reported in a legal form I frequent..... A new European act on product description has created a formal Europe-wide definition of a "bass guitar" for marketing purposes. The new definition states that to be a "bass guitar", the instrument must have four strings tuned EADG, be fretted, be typically worn supported by a strap, and several other defined characteristics. Instruments not meeting the specification may be sold, but may not be described as "bass guitars". After a previous, similar, act where the naming of "Soya Milk" and other vegetable "milks" as "milk" was banned, soya milk manufacturers renamed their product as "soya alternative to milk". Several bass guitar manufacturers, including Yamaha, have announced that they will be similarly marketing their non-conforming instruments as "5 string alternative to a bass guitar" or "fretless alternative to a bass guitar". Lawyers have given opinion that the restriction on naming extends to CD liner notes and other descriptive material. And hence track listings must not reference a "bass guitar" unless the bass in question is a four string fretted bass in standard EADG tuning. The consequences of the actions are far reaching, and it is not yet known whether instrumentalists such as Pino Palladino who specialise in playing fretless basses will still be able to describe themselves as a "bass guitarist". Lawyers have given their opinion that this is not clear, and the legality of such instrumentalists continuing to call themselves bass guitarists will not be settled until someone is sued for describing himself as a bass guitarist, and a legal precedent is created.

It's a common scam that people will buy items that are sent through the normal post, not signed for, then claim that they never arrived, and get a refund. The seller can do nothing, as ebay/paypal will ask them for a tracking number, and the seller won't be able to provide one. Refund ensues, and the seller is out of pocket. A lot of ebay listings will state that the seller will obtain proof of posting, and that no responsibility will be taken by the seller for items lost or damaged in the post. This achieves nothing, as ebay/paypal will still hold the seller responsible, and insist on a tracking number showing delivery. No such tracking number = seller refunds buyer. People who do this sort of scam often target those listings which say "proof of posting will be obtained but the seller takes no responsibility for loss or damage in the post" as the scammers know that the goods will be sent by normal post without tracking. Even sending an item signed for isn't enough, because a fair proportion of "signed for" post is delivered without a signature being obtained. In some cases ebay/paypal will decide on a "no fault" resolution where ebay will compensate the buyer from its own pocket without charging the seller. However, this is not typical, and in most disputes of this type, the seller will be the one out of pocket. If people don't believe that the above is a correct description of the situation, I suggest that they visit the Ebay Seller Central forum and ask the professional sellers who hang out there. Unlike the real world, ebay is definitely "seller beware".
