1. "Lawsuit" Ibanez Artist bass. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...atchlink:top:en So, who was it that sued Ibanez for making their own original designs then?
2. For what it's worth, I think it looks really nice.
3. How well does it play?
4. Starting bid higher than previous sale price. With him leaving positive feedback for the buyer, I know what I personally believe. Sold to shill bidder.
5. Skylark guitars have started making Ricky copies. The bass doesn't look all that good IMHO. But the newly released guitars look much closer: Maybe they'll rework their R style bass to look more accurate.
6. I posted this in the "Japcrap" thread this morning. Dunno about the price, but it seems high compared to other Ibanez basses of the same vintage. But, that doesn't mean much.
7. If I recall correctly, Bassassin had a Grant early on in his playing career. Again "if I remember correctly", he said it was a plie of £#%!. Very nice looking Ibanez Artist bass. I don't know if this is worth the asking however. 9. Paul McCartney playing a Kay bass (I believe).
10.
unfortunately, the other two are beyond repair: one is fretless, and the other one has a stripped body (still not fully finished) that will be carved to accept a MM style pickup and reverse P...
Haha!!! Love it! Who is going to be the first to add bluetooth to their Sue Ryder bass? And a c an opening And this too: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...t&p=1288181 Bravo, sir.
11.
Sorry my mistake I read it all but the part that said Kay. I thought you had had a brain fade moment because it just mentions Cort everywhere else. . My apoligise
Just back from being outbid by £0.55 on an item I think the seller of the "Cort Kay" bass did his or her level best to hide the "Kay" branding by mentioning it in the least noticeable place possible. I found it because I thought it was a Kay and looked carefully for the word Kay.
12. Bolt on Shaftesbury. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1980s-Shaftsbury-Bas...=item3f0b654612
13.
Is that the ultra rare Kay that is spelt Cort
Sorry, this has gone over my head. I can only see tiny pictures of everything except the first photo. The brand is listed as "Cort Kay" in the listing, but not the title. It looks a lot like a Korean Cort made, but Kay branded, guitar that sold a year or more ago, and hence I presumed it was in the same range. Is it not?
14. This claims to be a Japanese made Kay, "probably" made at the Fujigen factory. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Vintage-Cort-electri...=item25653016ab Looks awfully like a Korean made Kay six string that sold some time ago.I don't know for sure, but my gut feeling for this one is "made in Korea".
15. When I posted the opening post, I never had any idea it would turn into a trousers thread. Even with all that science has discovered about the world that we live in, there are some things that transcend the ability of science to explain, and the twists and turns of thread evolution are one of them. BTW: I once annoyed a music teacher when I was doing School Certificate (vaguely approximating GCSE) Music, by using the following Kenny Passarelli song as an example to describe "theme and variations".
16. Under the distance selling regulations, a company that sells goods at a distance must offer a seven day refund guarantee. This must include outward carriage costs. GAK's Terms and Conditions say this: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/terms-and-conditions
7 Day Money Back Guarantee In accordance with the Distance Selling Regulations, any goods can be returned for any reason within 7 working days for a refund, less carriage costs. Returned goods must be in their original condition and packaging. If you decide that you do not wish to keep an item you can either return it to us yourself, or contact us and we will arrange collection. The average cost for a collection is £50.
(my emphasis) This appears to suggest that GAK are not compliant with the DSRs. I asked them about this some time ago, before the well known Next case. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/10560466 GAK told me they were going to look into it. Given all the publicity since then, I'm surprised to see that they haven't updated their T&Cs, and personally it looks to me as if they are aware that they're breaking the law, and still going ahead and doing it. I.e., in my opinion, ripping people off.
17. Finally, a Westbury Track 2 bass at a price that should actually sell. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Westbury-track-2-bas...=item3f0b2db371
18.
Thought this site was alright myself, quite a few tabs on there. Why do you think it's shlt?
I suspect that he has just found out that Mick has passed on, and was reacting to that.
19. http://www.globalbass.com/archives/dec2000..._passarelli.htm
Kenny Passarelli was among the first bassists in the history of the bass guitar to play a fretless bass... PERIOD!!!! Granted, there were a few others, most notably Rick Danko of The Band, and Boz Burrell of Bad Company, but Kenny was the one to utilize the fretless to it’s fullest sonic possibilities. As early as 1973, he was making bass history by playing some of the most tasteful rock bass ever heard on Joe Walsh’s The Smoker you Drink, the Player you Get LP.
Is this an accurate representation of the history of fretless bass in rock music?
20.
cibo matto - spoon This is a decent studio version of one of theirs. I quite like it. Nice groove I thought. EDIT: or just go to Grooveshark and listen to the album for free
The we7 link I gave above is for the album that contains this track. I don't know Grooveshark, but suspect that we7.com and Grooveshark might be the same thing. But, back on topic, I like this track and the bass riff.
21.
I never realised he played bass. I'll have to search out some of his stuff. One would hope he has been more influenced by his father's song writing than his mother's singing
After I posted my first post, I thought that I should search out some unambiguous examples of him playing bass. But, when I found some "suitable" Cibo Matto live clips, they were so utterly awful that I decided it would be best to ignore the thread and hope it drops down the list. In the bands he's been in: IMA, Cibo Matto, Plastic Ono Band (2010 version), while he's a multi-instrumentalist, he seems to be quite foccussed on bass. But, he tends to be in bands with Timo Ellis who also plays bass, and they don't say who does what on the albums as far as I'm aware. I like quite a lot of the basslines on these albums, though I could see that some would find them too repetitive. I quite like the concept of setting up a good bass riff and then everything goes on around it. E.g. basslines on this album: http://www.we7.com/#/album/Cibo-Matto/Stereotype-A But when I looked up live clips of Cibo Matto. Well, maybe I unluckily found the wrong ones, but I thought they were unreservedly awful. So, I sort of want to ask you not to search them out. Edit: This is from 1999, and sounds better. But, the live sound is really weak and ruins everything IMHO. Perhaps a band that was better in he studio than live.
22. What do people think of Sean Lennon's bass playing?
23. Wow! Absolutely loads on ebay today. Thunders, Track 2, Hofner, Thor Sound, LH Maya, Roadster, Jetking, etc. Edit: Oops, the Jetking is a recent thing.
24. It's interesting to read your experiences with these basses. Thanks for sharing, if that's not too new-age of me
25. Not sure what this is. Not sure it appeals to me either. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BASS-GUITAR-LIGHT-LA...=item2311808c66
