  1. Yup it certainly does, that’s pretty much what I run. Even in a BIG pub/ function room it’s usually around 3-4 on input and 3-4 on output, I can’t imagine what size room it would fill at flat out but I can’t see me playing that size venue any time soon.
  2. Thanks for the offer, it’s very kind. I have sent an email and will see what comeback I get. Will also do a bit of research later tonight and see if anyone else has had similar issues.
  3. Hmmm, mine is fuzzy from 9 o’clock so something not right there. I think it’s time for a call to the supplier and see what they say.
  4. Yup tried it without the compressor and no difference to speak of, the pick ups are hot but I get similar results with my Aria in either passive or active mode. I had wondered about it being a duff one, just not really sure how to test it beyond having another side by side. It was new so should have been ok (but no guarantee). It seems to go from nothing to fuzz without that nice breakup you would expect from an overdrive inbetween.
  5. I have had another play tonight and still no good, I tried the settings you suggest and it’s still very fuzzy. I don’t get it if I am honest as a lot of reviews back up what you are saying but I can’t dial in that sort of sound no matter how I set it. It’s frustrating me if I am honest. I haven’t got any way to upload a clip or I would so you could hear what results I am getting.
  6. Not sure what Amp it’s from but can put pics up if anyone is interested. It’s completely bare -no handles or even feet but the wood and Tolex are in great condition. It is free to anyone who can make any use of it, collection from Tamworth or Derby (up there this Saturday and tend to go about once a month).
  7. PMT in Brum have a good range, might be worth a visit to narrow down the options a bit.
  8. And of course no one should should put a Egyptian logo on a tomb MIM or China and try to sell it on here.
  9. Another vote for Ibanez, I had a lower middle range one and it was far better made than the MiM Precision I had. I have a cheapish Ibanez fretless and can’t believe how good it is for the money.
  10. Gorilla glue works well, the proper stuff not the wood one (that’s just PVA).
  11. I will compare that to how I have mine set and see if I can get similar results with your settings. I mainly use a Gibson Thunderbird with new rotosound rounds so they are fairly bright (but that compensates for the low end thump of the Gibson). It’s even worse with the Aria I have, just not nice. Will try and report back.
  12. It was reading on here that it was so good that I went for it. It just isn’t transparent and always feels applied if you know what I mean. I run a spectracomp compressor in front of it, but set low and nothing else, then into a TE GP7. It just seems too aggressive to be an ideal overdrive for me. I have tried a few and not for ‘that’ sound yet. The joyo looks very good and is cheap enough to be worth a risk. Oddly I have found an aggressive sound with the mojomojo coupled with a chorus (yes I know it sounds weird) that I really like. Only problem is that I have nothing to do with it as it doesn’t fit with anything I need.
  13. Not a fan of the mojomojo as an overdrive. I bought it after reading reviews saying it was good as a bass overdrive but it’s definitely more of a distortion pedal. I have found it impossible to dial a nice subtle overdriven sound. But fine if you want the more distorted sound.
  14. They look like the roto 66s I use except the silk colour is different, different gauge perhaps. Have you measured them?
  15. I should hate Hammond organs, there is nothing appealing at first listen BUT whenever I hear their cheesy sound it takes me back to holidays as a kid where some vaguely capable (or not) person would blast out the hits of the day, or a close approximation of them, and for that reason I have a soft spot for them.
  16. Sold a TE cab to Carl, perfect buyer from start to finish, great communication and very reliable. Arrived early at meeeting place despite the horrendous weather.
  17. Undoubtedly, I think it’s because glass is very stable chemically whereas, even when coated, cans are made from materials that are nowhere near as stable so affect the flavour. Beer in barrels in pubs is also in effect a big can but it’s shelf life is much shorter and the volume to surface area is much greater so the effect is lessened. Always beer from a bottle for me.
  18. I love them, my go to is a Gibson Thunderbird, but keep going back to the SG shape. I hadn’t realised they were doing that colour for 2018 so will have to take a closer look.
  19. That is gorgeous, very nice addition.
  20. A lot of it is personal. I have my grandfathers tool kit that he saved up for as an apprentice. I would never sell it, it will be passed onto my daughter. But I wouldn’t buy someone else’s grandfathers tool set unless I needed the tools. Instruments are a bit different somehow, not really sure how but they just seem to be for me. I like the idea that have been making music, giving people a hobby/ living/ enjoyment for many years. I wouldn’t necessarily pay a premium for that though.
  21. Hard to say. Another aspect which is hard to quantify is how the bass makes you feel and how that is reflected in how you play it. My Gibson Thunderbird and Aria Pro are my ‘go to’ basses and I feel they play better, but is that true or is it just that I have more confidence in them so I play better? If you have a hankering for an old bass would you then play with more confidence as you ‘feel’ it has something extra? Almost impossible to answer though I think. Some aspects are much easier to quantify, the quality of the bridge, how even and well finished the frets are, size and shape of neck etc etc. Some will suit one or other players but things like a quality bridge which provides consistency will help all.
  22. I would buy a Victorian table because it will be made of better quality materials and built to last. An Ikea one will most likely be a load of junk that won’t last. Not sure the same is true with instruments. I would imagine a new Fender would last as well as an old one. I love old stuff as I feel it has ‘history’ but I appreciate it won’t be any better because of that. With a bass the sound is the first and primary consideration for me.
  23. You can change them as often as you want, what you can’t do is download/ save the existing ones FROM the amp/ pedal. If you are using one of the stock ones and know which it is then there is no problem. The problem comes when you have something you like but like to have a play to see if it could be improved but don’t know what it is.
  24. Fairly GAS free after buying a fair bit last year but idly looking for a precision with Jazz width neck. I won’t actively look but if anything comes up.
  25. No gig here as lead guitarist and singer is booked with his other (main) band, but having a few people round who can play so it’s curry then jam session. Looking forward to it.
