1. Lil ol' Steinbergers were popular with reggae types some years ago, and weigh not a lot.
2. Oops, trying a bit too hard! If you look really closely there's a corner of a Compact to be seen! "Carried from Iffley village to the Isis Tavern, Oxford, and still had the strength left to play!" (A bit long for a catchphrase though...)
3. I loved the electroluninescent panels on the old ones too. I dont know why they stopped with them. The power transistors are dead cheap to replace if they blow too - 2n3055 if anyone is remotely interested...
4.
Back Up for sale pm to all interested parties
I had one of these, great for quiet practice or "acoustic" level gigs.
5.
Cheers Geoff, Price drop £50
This is a blimmin bargain!
6. I had US Masters make me a lined fretless with black lines on Pau Ferro and side dot markers ON the fret positions on 3.5.7 etc. From a distance it looks like a plain board, but I find the lines useful when recording for that extra precision on the jumps etc. The first neck they sent had the markers between the frets, useless IMO, and they let me keep it and sent another. The whole process took nearly a year though! Masters have a unique neck fixing/pocket so no off-the-shelf neck would fit, but I'm really pleased with the result. Jules
7.
I fancy trying some other stuff. Hit me up with Aguilar Tonehammer's, Tech 21 VT Bass... Fulltone Bass Drive primarily - i will add cash to square up values. Its excellent condish and is boxed with manuals.
How about a DHA VT-1 "HP Bass ice Cryo Valve" Valve overdrive with power supply?
8. I can't believe Alex hasn't chipped in on this one - must be too busy building speakers!
9. My guitarist has a Peavy TKO (I think) he wants rid of. I checked it out for him and was really impressed at the range of sounds it could do. I think it was 80Watts into a 15" , graphic etc. The speaker is ok untill you get near to max, but it sounded sweet through my Barefaced compact. They are fairly heavy though - I think he was after about £100 for it. He also has a Laney 30w bass amp which isn't bad either. The tone is pretty good, 10" speaker, the eq (T, mid bass) wasn't the most effective, but the basic sound was quite acceptable. Again, sounded good through a decent cab, and surprisingly loud for the power. Make an offer on that one! By the way, where are you situated? Jules
10. Just watched it and thought that JayZ'z bass player was fine. Just being cool. Do you know what I'm saying?
11. BTW Bob, what do all the controls do on the jazz? Cheers Jules
12.
I've played this Jazz and it's the poodle's plums. Bob's a gentleman and a pleasure to deal with so buy with confidence. Someone's going to get a bargain.
Seconded. My 3 main basses are from Bob! The nicest guy you could meet, and far too many basses! Jules
13.
£700?! is that what they go for? i bought my SB1000 the exact same as this but lined fretless for £100!
Well you got a bloody BARGAIN then!
14. "That whole Jools thing was a like a mass meeting of the middle of the road millionaires club." I very much doubt Stornoway are millionaires. I've supported them in Oxford and the music was pleasant enough, but couldn't quite see what the fuss was all about.
15. Not too much in common with an Alembic either... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1970s-KAWAI-F-1-B-Ba...=item27ab601d9c
16.
Indeed. Can add that these are a bit smaller than a Stingray. Like a Sterling in the proportions. Jazzy-neck and smaller body.
I never knew that. I'll add that to a very long list (of things I never knew). Stingrays feel a bit clumsy to me.
17.
Soak in meths, doesn't screw them up as much as boiling, only thing is eventually the end you wind snaps from being straightened and bent so much.
This doesn't arise with dual ball systems. As long as you can live with the "80's throwback" stigma...
18. Now on hold for OS ^^^ until late Nov.
19. You can get an insulated version of them if that's a worry.
20. Hmm.... *strokes chin*
21. Do these have the curved body? I don't know the Warwick range that well, and it isn't that clear from the photos. Please excuse my ignorance! Cheers Jules
22. A little BUMPthing for the weekend....
23. Saturday 17 at the Wheatsheaf, High Street. 8.30 I'm playing with The Mark Bosley Band, rock+acoustic trio. Also playing, Oxford legends The Anyways, specially re-united for this gig (Mark Bosley's Birthday) The Mighty Redox, hard working party band, and Twizz Twangle, Oxford's finest singing postman (probably!) He's like a children's entertainer on acid. Sunday 18th September, The Eurobar, George Street, Oxford: Acoustic Night with Overrated, The New Moon, Des Barkus, and hosts Sue Smith and Phil Freizinger (7 pm, free) I play with The New Moon, (fretless) and acoustic guitar and possibly guest flute, psychedelic/melodic. I'll have the Barefaced Compact out for the Saturday (but only with a shuttle 3.0, so it'll hardly be pushed) and try out my mini homemade 10" cab for the quieter sunday one. Come and say hello if you make it to either! Cheers Jules
