Glutton for punishment springs to minds. The Ball has been in Jons court for 10 years and now you are prolonging your own agony. You seem to have ignored all that has been said here and on TB warning you away from Jon - not just as someone who is untrustworthy, but also someone who has questionable skills to build a fully functioning bass, nevermind what would happen if you need after sales support. As for following your specs, you have chastised Jon previously for his inability to follow your specs. Now you expect that to suddenly change? SMH

Regarding the Youtube Videos - if Letts was ACTUALLY sorry for ripping off his customers and actually wanted to set matters right, instead of wasting time creating, editing and uploading YT content, he would go and get a part time job in order to repay his debts. The man has no morals and should not be trusted or given any Business by anyone.

not really, this is fairly normal for 4 and 5 string jazz pups to be the same size - unless visible pole pieces are involved- 6 replies

awesome bass - I have one in a natural finish. These basses have that famous Spector tone in spades! The SSD logo and Stuart Spector Design Ltd. written on the truss rod cover would suggest this is from 1995-1996. The 96 Spector catalogue shows the same bass featuring the Spector logo on the headstock and Spector written on the TRC. I could be wrong though as I am not an expert by any means.

No German that ive ever heard. Koffer yes, Kist no. The bass has a Plaque stating it was hanbuilt by W Kist so clearly that is the luthiers name.

Spector Euro Truss Rod issue - please help
dyerseve replied to dyerseve's topic in Repairs and Technical
quick update... I am impatient and had too much time on my hands yesterday so I went with option 1b: shave off a few millimeters from the flat edge to again reveal more thread... So i got out my vice and dremel and cut 2mm of the flat edge of the anchor block. I also cut a couple mill off the barrel nut as well as the end of it actually protrudes past where the thread starts. The thread looke fine inside the barrel nut and I tested it with an M5 bolt to make sure - all good. I applied some machine grease to the end of the truss rod before reseating the anchor block - there was now a good deal more rod visible. I reattached the barrel nut and it went on to the rod easily and firmly. The good news is that the truss rod is now fully functional and the relief at the 7th fret is no longer several mill but rather 0,015" or 0,38mm Yay me! -
Hi guys and gals, so I just picked up my first Spector Euro yesterday. I didnt have a chance to play it before I bought it but I gave it the once over and everything looked good. It is in amazing condition with barely a mark on it, electronics and in fact the entire bass are all original and in good working order. The truss rod appeared to adjust without any issue... When I got it home I gave it a thorough clean, oiled the fretboard and put some new strings on it. Plugged it in and was immediately smitten with that famous Spector tone. I wasnt so happy with the setup though as there was too much relief for my liking. I set about tightening the truss rod. Everything seemed fine until all of a sudden the adjustments went from quite difficult to make to very easy. It was then that I realised that the barrel nut had come off the truss rod! I check the barrel nut with a bolt to make sure I have been tightening it the correct way(CW) and indeed I had. I still have no idead what actually happened but the bottom line is this - the barrel nut would not go back on the end of the truss rod regardless of what I tried. I had a look with a torch at the truss rod and it looked to be a removable type so while holding the bass upside down I gave it a few gentle knocks along the fretboard with a rubber mallet to see if that would help shift the truss rod(I have used this technique succesfully with Warwick basses that needed the truss rod replacing). The truss rod didnt shift but a small from it fell out - see the first picture. This allowed me then to try the barrel nut again and it was able to mate again with the thread on the end of the truss rod. So my question is this - what is the best way to proceed: 1. The block that fell out seems to be blocking the barrel nut from mating with the thread on the truss rod - do I therefore; a. need to reinsert it and give it a few good whacks to ensure it is properly seated - hopefully in the process revealing more thread for the barrel nut to mate with or b. shave off a few millimeters from the flat edge to again reveal more thread... 2. remove the whole truss rod and replace it with a new one - does anyone know if this is even possible or if I would need to get a luthier to do this by removing the fretboard? FYI the bass appears to be an early 90's Spector Euro as it has the SSD Logo and Stuart Spector Design on the truss rod cover. It has a 4 digit serial number inside the electronics cavity, EMG pups, EMG BTS circuit and solid brass bridge and nut with Schaller machineheads.

It also looks as though the hardware has been swapped out - at least the machineheads have as they do not look like the Warwick branded Gotoh built machineheads you would normally find on basses of this era... Still a cracking bass and the fact it comes with different pre and pups is a modders delight!

I quite like it. Not just another boring Fender copy!

*SOLD* For sale is a classic 1970's era Shure Brothers 565 SD (Unisphere 1) dynamic cardioid microphone The microphone comes complete with a 5m XLR to 1/4" Jack cable. The 565SD model was introduced in the 1960's and was made for several decades. This is the older American made 1970's / 80's model not the newer 1990's Mexican made 565SD. This was a widely used model with many famous musicians at that time period and set at low impedance having a beautiful smooth warm tone. Pic # 2 is an old 1970's Shure advertisement showing this earlier version and it's characteristics. Pic # 3 shows Jimmy Hendrix using one of these examples live in concert at Woodstock 1970 - Shure Unisphere Model 565: "Shure research, including the 1970 Woodstock documentary and the voluminous trove of artist photography, indicates that the mics used on vocals, drums, percussion, guitar amps and acoustic guitars were Unisphere® Model 565s." It works like new and sounds incredible. Basically an SM-58 before the SM-58. It does have more of a mid range sound however with a bit of bass as where the modern SM-58 is very heavy on the bass. As you can see from the photos, this microphone has been very well cared for and is excellent used condition with very little signs of use Insured shipping to the UK is 25GBP

**SOLD** My bass clear out continues: For sale is a Warwick Thumb Bass from 1994 with original Bartolini pickups and the original Warwick hardcase. The bass was built in 1994 but has been lovingly cared for as it is almost completely free of blemishes - there is some wear next to the neck pickup - as seen in the photos. Otherwise, the bass is perfect and completely original. It has also just been freshly waxed, the fingerboard cleaned and oiled, new strings put on and a complete cleaning, maintenance and tuning. The electronics also got some love: all potentiometers were thoroughly cleaned with a high quality contact cleaner. They all work without any problems! The truss rod was also checked and works perfectly. The frets were also cleaned and polished and show only minor signs of wear. The heavily contoured body makes this bass super comfortable to play - as does the light weight of only 3.9 kg. The bass is very versatile in sound thanks to the pickup placement, active/passive switching and 2-band preamp. The Bartolini pickups are a perfect match for the Warwick woods and provide a very organic tone and the famous Warwick growl. If you have any questions, please let me know. I ship within Europe with a tracked and fully insured service so you don't have to worry. The bass comes with the original Warwick hard case. Bass: Thumb Bass Bolt-On 4 strings Serial number: G 383 94 Year: 1994 Month: July Number: 383 Neck: Wenge wood Fingerboard: Wenge wood Frets: Bronze Warwick frets Nut: Just-a-Nut brass version Neck construction: Bolt On Body: 2 pieces solid Bubinga wood Finish: Oil finish / Beewax finish Pickups: Passive Bartolini JJ pickups Electronics: Active MEC 2-band electronics Hardware: Chrome hardware, made for Warwick Made in Germany / 91330 Eggolsheim / Franconia-Bavaria
