I know it well having lived there for 6 months. In the summer it's rammed with Japanese, German, American and Italian tourists. Not so many Brits as it happens. Normally the honey pots like the Charles Bridge, the clock tower and Nove Mesto in general are chocka but in December they're much less so. The tram system is excellent. If you wanna do the less obvious I well recommend Vysehrad (closest spelling i can get here, the s is pronounced 'sh') and the cementary there which is just for cultural greats like Dvorak. No soldiers or politicians can be buried there. There's a lovely park /arboretum called Stromovka where tourists don't seem to go, just the locals. Also particularly interesting is the National Monument in Vitkov Park, which has a museum giving an interesting history about the communist times. Back in the city centre along side the Vltava is the Dancing House where there's a nice little bar at the top. On the subject of bars check out any of the three Beer Museums pubs. The sheer range of beers on draught will blow your mind. I hope neither you or your wife are veggies as Czech cuisine doesn't cater well for them. You'd better like pork knees and dumplings 🙂. I know it's wintertime but you've gotta try a trdelnik, which is a cross between a doughnut and an ice cream. The best ones are to be had in some of the parlours on the hill in Mala Strana leading up to the castle

My approach is to improving is to master my bucket list of bass. This is around 150 tunes which includes Rhythm Stick and Sir Duke. I'd recommend a few more Stevie Wonder tunes like Masterblaster and I Wish. Other great ones to have under your belt are Club Country by The Associates, Kajagoogoo's Too Shy, Level 42's Love Games & Hot Water, Life in Tokyo & European Son by Japan and some lines that were actually done on a Fairlight esp Hyperactive by Thomas Dolby

For me 50% of the time it's fingerstyle , 25% slap n pop, 10% plec, 5% thumb only, 5% sticks n' tings, 5% teeth/feet... approx that is. I also prefer fingerstyle for guitar too. Just not a fan of plecs unless it's playing certain tunes where the bass is to the fore and fingerstyle doesn't have the attack needed. I mean early Stranglers songs probably sound a bit tame without that bass tone

Just think up any old ballcocks as a euphemism for coitus etc and the job's done 👍. Phrases like 'love rocket', 'love pump' , 'putting my log in your fireplace', 'squeeze my lemon' , 'shoot to thrill' etc are handy to have

Agree with you mostly but there is a case for artificially enhanced buttocks. 👍 Not all are blessed with great posteriors 😥. Some I've seen look like sacks of spanners or are even cheek-less!😱 . As for the Queen film I'll be giving it the same wide swerve that I've given to their musical. If I'm gonna be shelling out a tenner plus for the privilege of risking DVT I'll save my dosh for Sharknado VIII ☺️

I'm in Gloucestershire and looked around for bands for about five years before giving up on it once and for all. As others say, around three quarters of ads in Joinmyband etc are by teens. These go on about they'll change the music world with their originality and then go on to list 20 by rote metal bands as their influences. I occasionally go to open mic nights with my acoustic guitar and cajon and that's about it

I've a Cort GB74 and a BFL OPN and wouldn't swap them for anything several times the price. Go for it. You wont regret it

Yes but like it is with the supermarkets and farmers, Wetherspoons has most micro-breweries over a barrel and it's the them that pay the price for your cheap beer in the form of low margins

Sounds like you might've been to The Moon Under Water in Cheltenham, the one adjacent to Sandford Park that looks like a Wickes store. Bad teeth, or more precisely one or two brown stumps, are de rigeur for the lunchtime crowds. I'm sure it's also a recruiting office for the EDL

Yes and who pays the price for their rock bottom prices. I once went into partnership at a (now long dead) micro brewery . Wetherspoons were a major customer and they knew it and would screw us down heavily on discounts, each year ratcheting up the percentage, eventually getting to 20% on a firkin. They used their volume buying power as leverage. Eventually, as we ended up making less than 1% margin we went bust. And that was largely thanks to them. Utter bar stewards! never been in one of their dives ever since.

Ahhh, after the aberration that was episode 4 which I found quite enjoyable, largely thanks to Sigrid, normal, back-to-b0llox service has been resumed in episode 5; more by rote indie, krap Brit rap, dull but worthy stuff from Africa, the frightfest that is Marc Almond.... yet again. Holland becoming even more irritating than i thought ever possible.

The mrs likes them but I hear nowt special at all. Pretty run of the mill American hard rock. Ditto Audioslave and I like RATM and Soundgarden Viz Later is there anyone who isn't bored of with a format which hasn't changed in 54 series; the mix of a couple of shoite indie bands that soon fade back into obscurity after their 3 1/2 minutes, a septegenarian blues/soul/jazz artist, a band with a trumpet player from some token African country, a couple of earnest singer-songwriter types and some old rock act whose best days are behind them. Once in a blue moon they throw curveball by featuring a metal or dance act.

I don't know a huge amount about them but in the US I think a lot of the hatred comes from them riding on Pearl Jam's coat tails, being preachy christians and the lead singer allegedly being a bit of an @rse. The music is pretty dull hand-me down grunge but I can't vouch for the other things

True. There are hundreds of highly technical virtuosos out there but they're all pretty much doing similar things to eachother, especially those You Tubers who like to show their flashy chops from the comfort of their living rooms. I too prefer those players who have a trademark sound such as Mick Karn in his Japan days, JJ Burnel (first 4 Stranglers albums), Mark King (in his Level 42 days he was very recognisable) and Mike Dempsey (Associates, Lotus Eaters, Cure).

I'd read a bit about how vilified they are, in North America in particular, and then there was that poll about which was more popular, them or a gherkin. So I thought I'd check them out for myself. I can see why they attract so much dislike. It's not just that they peddle dull, plodding, derivative rock but that they've made zillions out of it and that the singer comes over as bit of a cockwomble. Mind you there are still thousands of other bands out there right now that are just as bad so I am still at a loss why Nickelback have been singled out .

Sot Cell along with early Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys among others were at the sappier and weedier end of the scale of synth pop stuff in the 80s. Even if did Almond sing about sleazy sex etc his thin strained and tune-free vocals combined with Dave Ball's £50 Casio from Dixons sound make me skip all SC tracks on 80s compilations. Dave Ball at least redeemed himself with The Grid.
