Without wishing to start WW3, the quality of wood, components, and finish of the USA basses is higher. (But I still love Mexican basses!)

Here’s my Ibanez guitar in excellent condition. Recently set up with new strings it’s a great guitar! This isn’t one of the cheap Gio guitars, but a giggable guitar, it’s barely been played and still has the plastic on some of the parts. Missing the switch tip and tremolo arm. These are £250 new. Recently restrung and ready to go. I’ve set up the tremolo so it’s intonated correctly and functions perfectly. £85 for Basschat!

Fender American II Pro Bass with bottomed out saddles - easy fix?
Burns-bass replied to daws0n's topic in Bass Guitars
The only thing I’d say is that I bought a bass like this once and I could never trust it. I always assumed it would break at some point. It never did, but I still sold it. -
Fender American II Pro Bass with bottomed out saddles - easy fix?

I agree this would sort the issue, but you need to consider why it’s happening. These are expensive basses and are fairly new, so it’s either a lack of care or something worse, Either way, I’d save the cash and time driving hundreds of miles and find one on here that’s fine. -

If I’m being paid (which is why I gig most of the time) I’ll have two of everything. Two basses, amps, a selection of leads, spare strings, power cables, and a load of spares that may be needed. Having had some spectacular gear fails, it’s not something I enjoyed and don’t want to happen again.

I tried one of these basses and it was really excellent. The only thing I’d upgrade are the tuners but overall it’s a top notch bass.

I’ve had both. The HB is a nice guitar, but the SX is a much better instrument. The binding and inlays are excellent and the wood high quality. Overall, it sounds better. €240 is a good price if it’s new. Personally, I’d go for the SX and if you need to upgrade the pickups then do it. Hope you find the bass you love!

LR Baggs Gigpro - offers - *SOLD*

This is a cool and super portable preamp I used for my EUB. Bought from the legend that is Chris, and its now up for sale as the EUB has gone and I use a Stanley Clarke for DB gigs. I paid £55 which is a significant saving on the “street price” but it’s up for the same. Personally, I preferred this to the Fishman. Specs here: The Gigpro is an all discrete Class A single channel belt clip acoustic Preamp that eliminates the need for on board active electronics on your prized instrument. Much like any great stage work tool, it makes any acoustic Pickup sound better and provides fingertip control right at your side. The Gigpro features: Adjustable Gain Passive 2-band EQ bass trim control (especially helpful when working with multiple ukuleles) phase inversion 9V Phantom Power Runs on a single 9V Battery

Don’t think the original post was begging for a bass. We’re part of a community and are happy to help. it’s sort of what (virtual) friends do.

Tis’ the season of goodwill to all people! Seems we’ve got this sorted. My Gio is here is that’s required. Inspired by this I’ll do another giveaway later when I see what stuff I have at home.

I’m in the Forest of Dean tomorrow if you can get there to collect one. Long term loan, it’s a beauty.

Absolutely agree. If you’re nervous, exercise caution! As with all woodwork, as long as you approach things slowly and with care you won’t cause any damage.
-
Perhaps let’s take a step back and address the question instead of transforming this into incomprehensible techno-babble. The answer to your original question is: yes. There are also environmental factors (heat, humidity, etc) that can affect the neck. The advice to make minor adjustments to the truss rod is a good one. Also be sure to adjust the saddle height too if changing neck relief. A truss rod is a very effective but pretty crude tool. Don’t be afraid to experiment with it, as marking minor adjustments won’t break it. Always use the correct tool or you could damage the truss rod adjuster which is really annoying! I never felt the need to let things “settle”. It’s a rod of metal in a wood neck, not an antique violin. Don’t overthink it. It’s very simple.

I won't have a bad word said against the Ibanez GSR200. I have one and it's amazing. Light as a feather, punch electronics, looks great, and if it got nicked at a gig I'd buy another with the money I just earned. In fact, my expensive basses have strings that cost more than this bass.

This is the problem with a budget brand. When you buy one at the mega impressive entry prices it’s always hard to justify it when their business model necessitates a price rise. Personally, these all look a bit dull.

Love a studio session. Music is mad sometimes, just have to enjoy the ride. Got my audition with the tribute band. Set up my bass with Rotos with a low action and that 90s clank from my EBS amp. Let’s see how it goes. As long as it’s fun, it’s worth doing.
-
Yep, it’s a wonderful thing we can all do. Sometimes it’s worth reflecting on it. I’ve been invited to audition for a tribute act playing stuff I loved when I was 15. They gig all over and it’s well paid, and it’s quite funny how I’ve gone forward and then gone back in my musical journey… Whats also hilarious is (independently of you) I was shopping for a Ripper bass.
-
Wishing you the best of luck. Music genuinely does save lives some times. I’m hoping you find a band that you’re happy with. If the joy of music ever leaves you, hope you find something to fill the void. Personally, I found playing in front of people in a band rekindled my love for all things bass.
