  1. I'm clearing out for the winter, and I'd love for you to buy these. All in good condition and come with CDs and download codes where appropriate. (I don't notate the books, so they're all tip-top) Some sold. These remain! Fingerboard Harmony £7 Serious Electric Bass £10 Improving Jazz bass £7 Bass improvisation £8 Save money on shipping by buying more (or all of them!)
  2. Here are 3 super double bass books. Read, used and enjoyed! Simandl (classic) £10 Playing the string bass £7 The Augen Cruft School of Double Bass (Rare!) £25 Can combine for cheaper shipping. Also, see my listing for jazz and theory books!
  3. This is an old-school, no-frills, but beautiful sounding Ashdown ABM115. It kicks out 100 watts of British watts (could be 200, see below!) and comes fitted with a lovely cover! This is in well gigged condition. The back has gaffer tape on it as the tolex was peeling. I bought this as a cheap cab to chuck in the car to do blues gigs and let anyone use, and for that, it has performed admirably. Now we're earning more cash, I've invested in a Barefaced set-up. £50 collected from Bristol.
  4. Also, don't prop the bass against the wall using the neck. That's a recipe for disaster!
  5. I recently got a guitar from a smoker. We’re telling 50 a day, stinker. It came with a leather guitar strap that’s in good condition but smells like a saloon in the Wild West (very smoky). I don’t want to chuck it but I don’t want to keep it, either. So it’s yours if you can use it!
  6. Here’s my Levy’s MSS30 strap. This has been lightly used but is in excellent condition. Ideal if you have a heavy bass. This works best with straplocks and that’s why I’m getting rid of it (none of my basses now have straplocks!) £30 posted sound fair?
  7. Jamerson was paid to sound like Jamereon. A pro is paid to sound like whoever the person paying the bills wants them to sound like! Guy can obviously play, sounds tight and about as good as any other semi-pro I’ve heard. Give it a go!
  8. I guess it all depends on what work you want to get. Semi-pro to me says cover band or tribute band, and I’m sure given a bit of time you could nail anything. Felt a bit mechanical to me. But that’s precision bass playing (no pun intended!). As for rocking up at a studio and being pain to create parts or read charts for recordings, assuming this is still a job, it’s often about who you know, your attitude and approach.
  9. I listened and I could barely tell the difference. But it still sounded great! (and Taxman is as tone deaf as it was then as it is now). Personally, these endless remixes seem like rent extraction. Beatles fans are numerous and devoted and anything like this will generate huge amounts of cash for the estate while doing nothing for the legacy. The Peter Jackson docco on the other hand was well put together and worth the subscription fee!
  10. It looks original. Many will have had the foam removed or it falls out. The screws aren’t original and will have created a bigger hole on the body which can be a bit unsightly. I can also see the bigger screw on the end of the scratch plate too which matches, so it seems original.
  11. Sounds less like road worn and more like mental health crisis. (I’m not trying to make a joke, it genuinely does. I had an acquaintance that once destroyed several instruments during an episode. Very sad and quite distressing.)
  12. I had one of these and it’s amazing. The perfect travel guitar and sounds great recorded as well. It’s Yamaha so that’s a given
  13. The quality of these basses is quite incredible. I gig all over with Mexican basses, love them
  14. I though I'd typed "shots" (as in stock shots), but my hand must have slipped!
  15. The never ending work on my house never ends! The original owners painted the Bath stone frontage which has crumbled beneath it. Had a couple of expert stonemasons to complete the work, and 6 months later it looks as good as new. But not cheap! Still got a list of stuff that needs doing, and I have to be realistic and reasonable.
  16. Had an answer to this now. So no worries!
  17. The scale length is for a 3/4 bass and the bridge is full size. The soundboard is suspended so it resonates as a real DB does. It’s fitted with D’addario Helicore stings. There is a piezo pickup under the bridge foot. You can also add a Realist pickup (because the sound board resonates). There are two white lines to help you position the bridge if it shifts in transit. The DB shoulders are removable. The neck can be adjusted (tilted) to find the best action using a standard hex key.
  18. This isn’t rambling, it’s 100% what I needed (and why Basschat is amazing). I was hoping I wouldn’t need a preamp but maybe an FDeck (or Fishman) would do the job. Seems there’s no single solution, but I sort of assumed that was the case. I really appreciate your considered reply and advice. Thank you! I think I will still invest in a Helix just now I know I’ll need to sort something for DB if/when I gig again.
  19. This is a hard one, but needs must! This is an almost mint condition MK jazz EUB. I bought his at the end of 2019, and Mirko at MK did and incredible job of delivering what is the best double bass substitute out there. The pictures are from Mirko but this hasn’t been played much. During lockdown I was able to pay my Bryant bass and nothing has changed. This comes with the fitted soft case, everything you need from Mirko and a hefty discount on a new price (with no import duties). Images here… (they look like stock stinky poos but they’re my bass. He does it for every new owner…)
  20. Hi guys, don’t want to hijack the thread, but could I ask this question (posted on the DB forum but you guys probably know more…) I play bass, DB and guitar and I have lots of pedals and preamps and am wondering whether the Helix would be appropriate for DB (I know it is for guitar and bass) I’ve previously used a Fishman Platinum but don’t use this anymore. Any advice welcomed!

  22. Can you afford it? If yes, will you use it? If yes, do you care about brand names? If no, get a Squier (the more expensive models are amazing) If yes, get a fender player series or search out a Japanese Fender. (If rich, buy a vintage one you never play)
