  1. The fact he’d deliver is a good sign, so he’s probably confident in what it has. It’s always the issue buying through a private sale from someone who is obviously not an expert. You see the same bass for sale at Andy Baxter and assume that’s the price you’ll get. Happens with any collectible.
  2. I spoke to the chap and he has a firm price in mind. Im not suggesting head involved in nefarious practices, it’s highly likely idiots bid then try to renegotiate. I advised him the price he wanted was far too high and level with that of a London dealer and he’d probably get half in a private sale. Seems I was broadly right.
  3. Can do this a bit cheaper as it’s the cause of some marital strife
  4. Any offer on the offers?
  5. I believe you’re right, the rollers seem fixed. You can check out the info from Babicz here and see if it answers your questions. https://www.fullcontacthardware.com/fch-rickenbacker-bass-bridge
  6. £6k is more than a dealer would pay. Given the swapped tuner, lack of a case and covers and the poor condition mean he’s done really well.
  7. A lot of money for what it is…
  8. He labours the point, but it’s a point worth making.
  9. These are exceptional amps that are the best on the market in my opinion. I only sold mine as I needed something bigger for gigs.
  10. Yeah, they’re a hell of a band. Feels more authentic than the jazz-funk-lite of Cory Wong and those guys.
  11. If this is anything like my Stentor it wil be a wonderful bass. This is an ideal kit for an improving bassist.
  12. Fascinating, comprehensive and you can certainly see why they’re priced as they are. I’ve never really fancied one, but I sort of do now.
  13. I had tickets to see the Who when Pino Palladio turned out for them after the Ox had died. It wasn’t the same but it was an enjoyable evening. Pete and Roger both spoke about him and all seemed well. Personally, I’ve never been a huge fan, but was a good gig.
  14. Thats good to know. This was very much an impulse purchase that I regretted. My wife hasn’t noticed it (or mentioned it) yet, so that’s a good sign. It’s incredible to have it next to a TH500 or Elf. I mean the whole thing is mad really.
  15. Seems these are overpriced. Offers?
  16. The head isn’t too bad. The cab on the other hand is obscene!
  17. I read that these can power several cabs and that people often used them this way. It’s classic “pro level” 80s gear. The sound is incredible, but the weight or ridiculous, particularly when it’s sat next to a Trace Elliot Elf in the music room!!
  18. I was bidding on a guitar at an auction and I saw this: https://auctions.doreandrees.com/catalogue/lot/7ad50fad34f6944428b146add59a403e/ad74375b82a358e6eef0ce537def266d/guitars-that-made-history-lot-44/ One speculative bid later and I bought 100kg of raw 80s power. Its a Marshall 3560 Silver Jubilee head in the worlds heaviest flight case, with a 4x10. They weigh an insane amount but my goodness the sound is amazing. Anyone have any hints or tips on getting the best out of the head? Or any experience with them?
  19. I’ve got a spare Stentor Double Bass case for a 3/4 bass. This is in excellent condition but I have a replacement (with wheels!). £50 plus postage? Pics will follow when I get the chance, but it’s this one. https://www.bassbags.co.uk/product/stentor-padded-double-bass-cover/
  20. I wonder about what happens legally to ownership of the bass turns up again. If a seller buys at an auction of discarded parcels (which happen), for example, are they the legal owner or do they have to relinquish it to the buyer? This happened to me previously. A bass I bought was delivered to Spain (95 stingray) and was never found.
  21. I’m going through the DB book box and have some to get rid of. First up is the ultra-rare Eugene Cruft School of Bass Playing. This is the original book in good condition (with some wear to the binding, pictured and some pencil marks inside). This is an ultra rare book and regularly sells for $200. £75 seems fair but happy to take offers. Next is the classic Simandl bass method. Older copy but all good. £15 Finally DB Solo book by the reliable Hartley. £10 I’ll update this listing with more books when I get the chance.
  22. I love this. Sometimes I think we are bass twins you and me Frank.
  23. Rickenbacker treble bezel for the 4003. Reason for sale is that my band prefers the traditional bridge cover (and so do I).
