Not necessarily, when both layers of cocobolo are of the same piece of wood or, in the case of the chambering, if the piece of cocobolo was cut in half, then hollowed out, and joined together again
Devious stuff!

Hmmm............. food for thought. Thanks Chambering - then I would lose the run of solid wood. Sandwhich - then I would lose the run of solid wood. I suppose I could do a sort of Status Streamline vibe.

I think cocobolo is lush. I see it on basses around here. It seems to be used as a facing a lot. I really like solid wood and being able to follow grain around a shape. That is one of my "things". Is it silly heavy or could a body be made of a soild piece of it? If it is heavy the body could be really thin. Which would also be nice

Unused for more than 2 projects. HD24 is built exclusively for the purpose of recording music instead of data, resulting in remarkable stability and performance. HD24 enables engineers to record up to 24 tracks of high-resolution 24-bit recording at 44.1 and 48 kHz sample rates. Two hot-swappable media bays provide convenient access to recording drives and allow data backup in minutes. You can edit tracks internally or easily transfer to computer via an Ethernet connection. HD24 features ADAT Optical and ADAT Sync, enabling it to work efficiently with existing systems. It offers the same exceptional user-friendly interface ADAT users have come to expect. HD24 can be upgraded to HR24XR with the EC2 module. This user-installable option replaces the A/D and D/A converters with the renowned AKM converters used in the acclaimed MasterLink. EC2 improves performance at all sample rates and also expands analog and digital-input compatibility to include 88.2 and 96 kHz sample resolutions. HR24 packs 24 channels of digital audio I/O into a single-unit recorder that easily fits into any environment. Alesis reinvents digital recording. Again KEY FEATURES: * 24-track, 24-bit digital audio recording (12 tracks at 96kHz with EC2 optional updgrade) * 24 analog inputs (1/4" TRS) * 24 analog outputs (1/4" TRS) * 24-channel ADAT Optical I/O * Dual recording bays utilize standard, low-cost, removable IDE computer drives * Instant random access to audio using ADAT/FST™ (File Streaming Technology). * Internal editing capabilities include cut, copy, paste, and track-move with undo. * Multiple units can be synchronized to create a larger system * Easily integrated into an existing ADAT system * Ethernet port enables computer connection * MIDI I/O, MTC out * ADAT Sync in/out * Word Clock in MEDIA * Caddy 1: 40GB HD * Caddy 2: empty * Caddies can be fitted with IDE/EIDE/ATA drive at 5,400/7,200/10,000 RPM up to 2TB TRACK COUNT * 24 tracks at 24-bit, 44.1 or 48 * 12 tracks at 88.2 or 96 kHz with optional EC2 upgrade CONNECTIONS * Analog: 24 24-bit inputs, 24 24-bit outputs (1/4" TRS, 4dBu) * Digital: 24-channel I/O via 3 ADAT Optical inputs and 3 ADAT Optical outputs * Other: MIDI in/out. Alesis Sync in/out (DB-9). Word Clock input (BNC, 75). Footswitch jack for punch in/out (1/4"). LRC input for traditional wired remote (1/4"). 10 Base-T Ethernet (RJ-45) AUDIO SPECS * Frequency response: 20Hz–20kHz 0/–1dB * Dynamic range: 103dB A/D, >103dB D/A (A-weighted) * Distortion: <0.003% THD N. Input levels: nominal 4dBu, maximum 19dBu * Pitch control: 100 cents/–200 cents, min-max 30–50kHz (30–100kHz with version 2.0) POWER & DIMENSIONS. * Power: 90-230V AC, 60W * Dimensions (H x W x D): 5.09" x 19" x 17" (127mm x 483mm x 432mm), 3U rackmount * Weight: 20lbs (9.07kg) Can you tell that I copied and pasted that from their web site? No trades. Not trying to sound grumpy

I have answered the TB thread. If you are interested in the 4+1 drop me a pm.

Hey Mark! I have a Bolin NS5 which has seperate controls for mag and piezo. Mag is EMG vol/ bass+treble/mid+sweep. Piezo is Fishman vol + roll off. the Fishman pre has a user adjustable bass boost on the board but not accesable in the heat of the moment. It is superb. Fishman will not sell me one unless I am a luthier and want a bulk amount. I love the sound of the piezo but do not much care for the bass - just a taste thing. The problem is, I cannot find anything which will make the same noise.

How good does a (pop) bass player really need to be?
Owen replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
What marks out a great bass player FOR ME (YMMV etc etc) is someone who makes the whole band sound good. It is feel rather than technique. Technique cannot ever hurt, but it is only a tool. Many guitarists can shred like food processors, but they will only ever be guitarists and not musicians. The difference is painfully obvious when you have two guitarists in the same band, one being a guitarist and the other being a musician who plays guitar. A decent technique is not rocket science and should be achievable fairly quickly, but sympathy and empathy to the song and the band takes real-time gigging and band rehearsal. It's like playing with a good drummer - you do not notice it until a bad drummer comes in. Why do Jazzers fill the ranks of the session pros? Partly because they have learnt to listen to what goes on around them and making it work. Just some musings -
WHAT?
I was young............................Nope. I was stupid............................Yep, that's the one.

I traded an early Overwater 4 (original shape) in purpleburst for a pair of EMG Jazz pick ups. What was I thinking?

The guitar teacher's manager is probably and ex trumpet player who has NO idea that the techniques are different. Finding a proper DB teacher is really difficult. Giving one enough work to make it worth their while getting out of bed is hard unless it involves teaching 'cello as well. The guitar teacher is payed by the hour. "Can you teach bass? It will mean more hours." "Of course I can, when will I start?" Bass, how hard can it be? You know how that works. Try and talk to the guitar teacher personally. She/he will probably be cool about it and might even welcome input. There are elements of technique which are easily adaptable between violin and DB, especially if the teacher has had some training.

Exciting bidding pattern or am I just being cynical?
Owen replied to Owen's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
It doesn't matter what the bid history looks like. You decide the most you want to pay, then place your bid and wait and see.
I would have put £700 on it, but someone else obviously REALLY wants it. I guess that I can see the pattern more clearly now. I had not considered the "one huge bid" and someone else testing it theory. -

To be fair to the bulider, he does actually make it all from planks of wood. I was going to bid, but the bidding pattern looks...........er............manufactured. -
