  2. hello, what is the blob on the neck at about the 15/16 fret by the E string, thanks, mike
  3. WARNING!!! DO NOT APPLY THIS PRODUCT TO YOUR FINGERS PRIOR TO VISITING THE TOILET Other than that the old Germaline LS certainly does what it says on the tin, last night I survived a 2 hour rehearsal, the coating gave up just before the last two numbers,my finger is healing well & I don't forsee any problems for the weekends gigs,Definately something to keep in the gigbag. mike.
  4. Hello, thanks for all the advice, this is the plan so far- arrived home this evening & started building up layers of germaline liquid skin,I aim to rest the finger as much as possible before tomorrow nights rehearsal, when armed with a selection of finger picks, surgical gloves to cut off the finger tips & a roll of insulating tape I will let the band know that I may have a problem. If I survive & make it to saturday night's gig I will keep you all posted,in the meantime keep the advice flowing, mike b.
  5. OK,with two important gigs next weekend, rebuilding my mountain bike & subsequently trapping my r/h index finger beween the brake caliper & rotating front brake disc was probably not a good idea. That aside I am now left with a flap of skin & a deep cut in the worst possible place,my daughter seems to think that there is such a product as liquid skin. Any one out there with any knowledge or ideas on how to repair & harden up the end of my damaged plucking finger,I seem to remember reading that stevie ray vaughen used super glue to harden the tips of his fingers, what I don't want is a hideous sceptic mess so only sensible tried & tested ideas please, mike b.

  10. Check out stringsdirect .co.uk for good choice of dball strings, free postage & generally next day delivery,I've used elites & status hot wires, little to choose between them, mike b
  11. How come nobody mentioned Colin Hodgkinson, try 32-20 or slidin delta, keeps me amused for hours

  13. Can't think of anything bad to say,had my 4000 for years, apart from a crackly master vol pot that a squirt of switch cleaner cures for about 6 months, beyond me why every bass player in the land doesn't use a headless, takes up less space & almost never needs tuning also status necks are a joy to hold, the whole thing is effortless to play, best advice is to get your hands on one, mike b.
  14. This is a little more expensive, but I would be lost without my Korg Pandora around £99 the last time I looked, the guitar/bass model has loads of useful effects, incl the option to jam along with cd's or mp3 via an aux input together with a bass cancelling option to cut the bass line from the aux input so you can play your own bassline over the top of your chosen track (hope that makes sense),versatile piece of kit well worth the expense, mike b.

  18. Hello,you need to use a "taperwound" B string,I believe they are standard in warwick 5 string sets,also D'addario supply loose taperwound strings from 0.125 upwards,but don't incl them in their 5 string sets,happy hunting,mike b.
  19. hello,I have used both, currently using elites, with no problems, very little to choose between either of these.<stringsdirect.co.uk> have the best choice of db strings that I have come across, reliable phone or web order, check out their website for availability, mike b.
  20. Hello, just read your post & as I'm close to Exeter, this may be near to your budget,I have an early model spector (czech built )Rebop5 ,dot neck,in almost mint cond that my arthritic fingers are struggling with,it has an alder body with aguilar preamp giving a more retro tone than later models, not looking for a jazz in trade,as your close by give me a shout if you want to try it out, happy new year, mike b.
  21. Always fancied a 'ray, strapped for cash this time of year, but if you fancy a straight swap for a status energy fretless together with a spector rebop 5,both in excellent condition, give me a shout, happy new year, mike b.
  22. merry christmas, there is only one way to reduce weight significantly & that is to reduce mass,ie cut down the size of the body & cut out holes or shapes in the same manner as John Mayall did to his trusty fender strat back in the 60's,if anyone else out there is old enough to remember. However the downside to this is that you will destroy any resale value your instrument currently has (unless of course you keep it for the next forty years & become famous). As I see it you have two realistic choices before you, first would be to swop it for something lighter or second throw away your strap ,balance your bass on the top of your bass/guitar stand & play it as an upright, an old jazzer friend played this way for years, happy new year, mike b.
  23. I use stringsdirect.co.uk ,may not always be the cheapest, but they have always delivered next working day,buy online or over the phone, check out their website for latest prices, merry christmas, mike b.
