Hi I bought this recently to see if i liked it as i'd always liked the 4 string version. I do like it but can't justify keeping it so it has to go. It was sold as an Encore mahogany bodied bass, however it's actually a Vintage V940, the early version with gold hardware. It needed a good clean and some work and parts but it's come up really nice, the only things i'd mention are: - Buckle rash on the back - One of the retainer screws on the bridge doesn't match the others - The neck bolts aren't original - It may need a new battery connector wiring if it's gonna see heavy use (cost pennies) - The clip on the battery box doesn't spring back (still secure though, you just have to push it back. A new battery box is around £5 - £6 but this one works fine) That's all i can think of I bought this bass for £50, with delivery and parts it owes me around £65 so i'd like this back. No offers unless they're more than £65! I'll ship it with any courier you like, i usually use Interparcel as they're only around £8, so you could have this delivered for £73 I'm near Blackpool if anyone fancies trying it out

COMPLETED PLEASE REMOVE! Warmoth Fretless Jazz
I do like this jazz...but I'm put off by the fact that the back pick up sound doesn't sound like a jazz...I think you said it had more of a precision type tone....that's a shame.
It does sound like a Jazz, just a bit darker with a bit more thud available. Roll off a bit of the neck pickup and you're in Jazz territory, roll off the bridge a little and knock the tone back and it does a great P impression. It can't quite do the nasal tone you can get out of a jazz, although with a more versitile eq you could probably get it. It does sound smoother than the Jazzes i've had, which i preferred for fretless. It's not the sort of active tone that jumps out at you with sizzling highs, it just sounds like a beefed up passive bass, which again i like on fretless I guess it's probably due to the woods and the basic tone control, there's a nice big control cavity on the back in case you wanted to add a different eq -

A total steal too, was having a think about that one but managed to restrain myself! I'm happy for you but more than a little jealous!

Not used those ones but i have played the Cheetah/Johnny Brook branded ones that Crack Converters sell, they were £4 when i got em but they're £6 now i think Was really impressed, a bit rough but they sounded better than the Hartke strings i took off that bass. I use these on my backup bass and they do their job
a Zon Sonus 8 string is still on my list Just been listening to Faith No More from this year's download and I need a Zon like Billy Gould's - what a sound. It won't fit in with the sound of the wedding band but f@@k it
Every time i watch FNM vids i GAS for a Zon. Billy Gould has an incredible tone, even if he is looking more like Bill Oddie these days
The single-stage FET buffer is very easy to throw up. And it would easily fit inside pretty much any control cavity. I'll try to remember snapping some photos of mine next time I'm able. Should be in about ten days.
Excellent, cheers dude!

I've just bought the natural 5 string version of that bass for £50, looking forward to receiving it as the 4 string version of it was great There's nothing worse than a brand snob, most basses these days are very well put together and are well up to gigging. Plus there's something cool about finding a great cheapo bass!

Ah, good work! And loft basses do actually exist!
Whooooosh! Dibs, please.
Ok, 1st dibs it is! It was listed as a mahogany bass, . However it's one of the earlier Vintage ones with gold hardware and i presume a 2-band active eq. presume it's bubinga bodied as the photos were a bit poo. The seller also thought it was an Encore even though it says "Vintage" in big letters on the headstock!

I've just picked up a Vintage bubinga bodied 5er for £50 + £8 delivery, been trying to fing a 5er that i like the sound, feel and look of for a while If this doesn't fit the bill i'll pass it on at £58 + p+p to anyone who wants it I remember when i was at uni in Sheffield, i saw a new 5 string Stingray in natural for just over £500. The local music shop was closing down and there were bargains galore. My mate got a nice cheapy acoustic for £30. I remember having spent all my money of my course books and a memory upgrade for my laptop, when the next installment of my loan came through the bass was predictably gone
I've just snapped up an Epiphone Les Paul bass on EBay for £80 that was only listed 35mins previously and looks immaculate in the detailed photos. I should probably reserve judgement until it arrives but in principle it's a bit of a steal.
I was looking at that one, looked really nice in the tobacco burst. Think the postage was around a tenner too so that's a lot of bass for the money

Don't see many of these, one of those basses i've always admired wanted to play Check out the craftmansip on this one, proper bass! Advice on prices for Mex Fender and Warwick Rockbass
lemmywinks replied to darwin's topic in Basses For Sale
FWIW i played one of those Ps the other night, loads of decent beefy sounds to be had just from the blend knob. The one i tried had crackly pots and a noisy pre (it was ex demo, the guy paid £435 if memory serves) so it was a bit off-putting but i was still very impressed. It was a slap monster and had a very assertive fingerstyle sound, i'd gig it any day I'd love to try one that didn't have the faults that one had, although i'd probably end up buying it! I think P + J is my new favourite pickup configuration -
Makes you wonder just what the Crack Converters stores actually pay for these basses if they're still making a profit, makes me shudder just thinking about it! I'm going to stop reading this thread now as i can feel the first wave of jealousy coming on...

I've been on at our drummer for ages to buy a quiter kit. He uses an old Premier kit which rarely needs micing up in pubs, i think if he got something that was designed after the invention of drum mics then our problems would be solved. He always complains that he can't hear the bass, play quieter then!
And the buffer is needed for impedance matching only - the levels are often very close to the magnetics (there's a lot of variation between different magnetic pickups, you know). For my Warmoth build I used a simple one-stage FET based buffer based on Don Tillman's design found here. Works great!
How difficult is that to knock up? Also will it fit inside a typical control cavity? I won't be doing it btw! I know how i'd want to incorporate the piezo in the bass, just the usual passive vol/vol/tone and a seperate volume for the piezo, i want it as simple as possible Ta Steve
