SOLD
Too pricey?????
I don't think so. It's a nineties Warwick with a brass nut and wenge neck. Well worth the asking price IMO, these have been creeping up in price recently going off eBay Remember they have stopped making Corvettes in Germany so i wouldn't budge on price if i were you, the only new alternative is a Rockbass for the same money
2. Could give Elixirs a try? Even when the coating wears down they're still very smooth. Pricey too but last ages
3. If you fancy a 2nd hand bass then have a look at this Yamaha 5er: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=86117 Nordstrands and Audere eq, comes with hard case for £350
4.
Thats that then, some tasty bargins to be had but some of them went mental bearing in mind 15% buyers fee plus VAT on top someone bought a RockBass Streamer LX fretless 4 string for £400 meaning a total of £517 I have no idea why!
You notice all the Rockbasses were just listed as Warwicks? Fortresses for £299 and £350 and the Corvette went for £360, plus 15% on top of those prices. Some people are gonna be expecting a fully fledged Warwick methinks, I watched a couple of Rockbass Fortresses not get over around £220 on eBay recently The Epiphone bass packs went cheap though
5.
In which case, I personally think the answer is no. The build quality of most Squiers may be good on the scale of basses but is not as good as the hand built early Fender basses. I just feel that a machine-built bass cannot match the feel and quality of something hand-made.
I think there's some Warwick players who'd disagree vehemently with you there! There were also some shocking early hand-built Fenders going by some that come up for sale Also, just how much of a USA Standard Fender is hand made and how much is machined? If you look at the quality of basses coming out of the Cort factory then you'd have to say machine-built basses are up there and getting better all the time. Consistently great quality, a machine doesn't produce a Friday afternoon bass! That's the thing i like about modern Squiers, the quality control is spot on. I've never heard a bad comment about them. I owned a Squier Standard Jazz for a while and gigged it alongside my Warwick through a Hartke stack and then my current rig. Held it's own admirably and was extremely well built, couldn't fault it and it was better than the MIM Jazzes i played in shops at the time. I think i paid £170 for it new
6. Weird! I've been funny about doing festivals before if i couldn't get a free plus one for the missus, let alone a ticket for myself!
7.
No bass is too nice too gig. If it picks up one ding too many you can always get it refinished. Not a problem at all.
+1 I don't see what all the fuss is about. My Zoot is my main bass, i wouldn't have bought it if i wasn't going to gig it all the time! No point in spending all that money to look back when you're an old man and think "I wish i'd gigged the hell out of that bass, wonder what it would have sounded like at gig A,B or C" etc. Years ago when i bought my first Warwick i couldn't wait to gig it, same with the Zoot. If yo want a bass to hang on the wall get an Encore with a knackered neck, nobody will know the difference!
8.
Go for something off ebay might be a good idea. Otherwise have a look at Kustom. I've got one and find it's very good and they cost around £60 i think. I guess other people will have better suggestions though.
+1 for eBay, it'll most likely be collection only so there's bargains to be had. This 300w Ashdown 4x10 combo went for £115 near me the other day, was thinking about buying it just because it was so cheap! http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...e=STRK:MEWAX:IT
9. Serious bargain this, i played one a few years ago but it was out of my price range (i'm a total skinflint) - was well impressed. Nice pickers guitar too A geniune USA Taylor for £180? Too cheap!
10. I DI from my MXR pedal so it's not a problem if my amp goes down. If i was looking for a small, light and cheap head for spares i'd get one of these like OTPJ suggested: http://www.soundsliveshop.com/p/Ashdown_Li.../ASH-EX-LTG1000 Alternatively scout a 2nd hand Superfly, they go for around £100 2nd hand
11. My old Jazz got churned up pretty quick, i imagine it'd take a few years of regular use to get really bad. If it's just a cheapy then a new Mighty Mite neck would be economical I'm currently using one of those necks with an ebonol board and it's holding up well with plenty of use, i'd definitely get another if it got bad as they're only about £75 - £80. Another possibility is to use nickel rounds or half wound strings. I asked a similar question a while ago and got some good suggestions: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...mp;hl=pau+ferro
12.
Average / rubbish pub covers bands around here get about £150-200 per gig. I know as I dep for a few. Not bad for a trio... As per all gigs where the crowd size is largely down to you, the bigger draw you are the better money you can get. Re where to look for a band: Here's a gig or two and a place to advertise yourself http://www.musolist.com/United-Kingdom/Man...s-Player-Wanted and Gumtree http://manchester.gumtree.com/cgi-bin/list...arch_terms=bass
I'd add joinmyband to that too, i put an ad on there and within a week had loads of good offers, one from a cracking originals band and another for highly paid cruise work! Also if you really have to cycle with your entire rig maybe have a look at something like these: http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&mid...=610&cid=95 http://www.genzbenz.com/?fa=detail&mid...=610&cid=95 I never thought a bass amp could be that light until i picked up a shuttle combo. I've had pedals heavier than those things!
13.
Where there's a will there's a way.... (20 years in bands, 10 of which with a trace elliot stack, Now using markbass but still no driving licence!)
+1 I don't have a car and did covers for years, most of the time with a Hartke head with 1 or 2 big cabs FWIW pretty much every pub band around here that gets paid ok money has a full PA, bass and kick always goes through. Most of the time i could have used my little Hartke combo When i got my LMII i just left my cab with the band gear and carried the rest of my stuff on the bus or cycled
14. If the band have a PA then presumably they store it somewhere, you could just leave a cab with the rest of the gear and cycle with a bass, lightweight head and leads in a good gigbag That's what i've done a few times
15. It is worrying about Phil, a few people were concerned with his sudden absence (there was even a thread about it), hope he's ok
16.
Haven't seen maxrossel for a while.
Max is more of a guitar player i think, here's his band's myspace to show he's alive and well: http://www.myspace.com/ukmarch Entertaining guy i thought, he actually logged in today so he does have a look every now and again Has anyone heard from Phil_the_bassist yet? He disappeared quite suddenly and hasn't been back since late February Same with Lysdexia
17. I like the Hartke combos, the Kickbacks or the A70/A100 are all loud little amps. The two A series ones are within budget 2nd hand, you might even get lucky and pick up a kickback for that amount Have a look on eBay for collection-only auctions, that's a great way to snag a bargain as a lot of people won't post amps
18. Not really, just means the head gives it's full power at 8 ohms They're very loud little combos, plenty of low end
19. Aye they're regarded as quite unreliable amps and the quality control was all over the shop, especially the £199 ones that were sold when it was discontinued If you do get it fixed then take it out of the extra casing (if you haven't already), just unscrew the front part and it should slide out. They have overheating issues which this pretty much fixes, mine has been fine since You can fit 4 rubber feet to existing screw holes and grind down the corners
20. Absolute steal, the USA ones were better-built and quite pricey. The one i had sounded huge
21. If the pickups themselves are active (rather than passive pups hooked up to an active eq) then they will probably be too low in output. Someone else local to me had the same problem and i thought getting some passive Wilkinson soapbars off eBay would be a good idea. They can be wired in series/parallel i think, handy as you'll have 2 holes in your bass if you go passive! Someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to clarify no doubt!
22. This Yamaha is a good deal at £100: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-BB414-Bass-Gu...=item2306b4a046 Comes with a strap, bag and 2 sets of Ernie Ball strings. Even better if you can arrange your own courier (Parcelbee or Interparcel will ship a bass for around £7)
23. ESP B-50 for £110 delivered: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ESP-B-50-BASS-CHEAP_...=item2a067a6d48 It's also worth scouring eBay for local collection only bargains. I picked up an Aria HSS strat with an amp, case and leads the other week for £50. Good as new!
24. Gorgeous bass, exactly my cup of tea. Confirmed by the cup of tea decal on the headstock!
25.
I have a LG1000 and the pre section is a little weak- though if you use, say a Sansamp bass driver you can really boost the pre section which will give a lot more volume. I also use 2X 4ohm cabs so use the full 1000W- though dont really believe it is rated at that- plenty loud enough though- you can also boost the volume by using the EQ Bob
Would you say it's louder than the LMII Bob? I know it's hard to compare as you'll be using different cabs with each due to the output configuration, but does it seem like it's got more headroom when pushed?
