1. Aye i got that email a while ago. Might have to unsubscribe from the mailing list as there's not a single bit of kit on that site that i don't want! Someone really needs to snap up the BagEnd 12" at £350, that's a steal. The Bubinga Zon also looks fantastic.
 2.
Because I have the same copy of Thirsty Nuns behind my radiator too. or I can't... it was a joke. Try to not to take things so literally in future Data.
I don't think it's a Fenix, the shape is sorta similar but the ones i remember had a chamfer along the hooked part of the headstock: Those Fenix Jazzes were indeed mighty fine basses. The one in the listing just looks like a cheapo copy, albeit probably worth more than £50 in parts.
 3. Haha great, that makes the Markbass look huge!
 4.
I saw a Aguilar GS112..with horn, I think, on here the other day for £160....STEAL..!!! That will do for starters and paired up - at a later date - you have a cab set-up that could cope with a very loud band, IME.
Ruddy hell that is a good deal!
 5.
Read the blown EA 10" speaker thread first..
As long as the OP knows what situations the majority (if not all) 1x10 cabs are suitable for then there's not a problem. He just wants it for acoustic jams and home practice which they are perfectly suited to. It's tempting to get carried away and start pushing it but that's gonna cost you a replacement driver sooner or later! Chances are even the 140w amp the OP is looking at using is going to drive the majority of these cabs to their limits if cranked, my Superfly at 8ohms can drive my EA cab to distortion.
 6. Ibanez looks like a good bet, neo driver so it'll be nice and light. I'm not aware of anyone on here who uses one on it's own and not with the combo though so it's hard to judge it's merits as a standalone cab. I would still love to try one though! Also you may find some inspiration in this thread: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...iny+little+rigs If you don't require silly volume levels then there's actually quite a lot of choice.
 7.
Coils? Coils! You mean you can actually bend it??!! Clearly far too lightweight for a speaker cable then.
The 1m cable i have will coil to a certain extent but the 50cm one is actually quite awkward to pack away, i don't really know what to do with it! Wouldn't swap it out for another brand though, there's something really confidence-inspiring about such a chunky heavy duty cable.
 8. I remember obbm mentioning he used 4sq mm cable for bass if that's any help. I have some obbm speakon cables (bought used off here) and they are superior to anything at that price point. Easy decision if you don't make your own leads!
 9. Interparcel have always been spot for shipping basses, boxes will always get thrown about but there are steps you can take to make sure it arrives ok. One of the best things for shipping bass bodies and necks is those air pockets/pillows that come in strips. If you have the large (not the tubular) ones you can totally encase a neck in them, it'll actually bounce on a drop test!
 10. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A SITE FOR BASS ENTHUSIASTS, EXPENSIVE BASSES, CHEAP BASSES, WHATEVER , ALL I CAN SEE IS GUYS LOOKING AT PICS AND MAKING COMMENTS ONE WAY OR ANOTHER, ITS A WASTE OF TIM ADVERTISING ON HERE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE. IS THERE REALLY ANY POINT IN HAVING A FOR SALE SECTION?????? CHEERS KEN
 11. ??? He's sold a few though, despite the fact that for that money you could pick up an EUB and not have to dismantle your P Bass. Someone has paid $549 for one too.... Baffled!
 12. Wow, excellent work! Not usually a fan of Jags but that looks lovely.
 13.
You can mess around with your EQ all you like, you will never get another bass to sound like a Rick - similar maybe, but they have a genuinely unique element to the growl that is unmistakeable.
See above! The RD Artist i had could absolutely nail that sound, better than most Rics i've heard
 14.
He does, and the sound is a million miles away!
He sounded just like himself on the clips i've heard. I really don't get the whole "Ric sound" thing, the ones i've played have sounded nothing like what i have come to expect, that's with me playing them and their owners gigging them. The best "Ric" sound i've had from a bass was attained with an RD Artist. I also find them uncomfortable basses to use btw, the little quirks are, for me, serious design faults.
 15.
.... its because of the singular, characteristic sound of Ricks - precisely the same reason that the likes of Chris Squire and Bruce Foxton still play them today I am guessing
I though Bruce Foxton played Precisions more nowadays? In most of the recent clips i've seen of him he's playing a Fender, still gets that same sound though!
 16.
A sensible way forward may well be to keep the SWR combo at the rehearsal room (where there are stairs...) and replace everything else with a suitable lightweight head + cab, or maybe a decent combo.
When you have one lightweight compact cab and a head that fits in your lead bag stairs really aren't an issue any more! When i rehearse i take all my gear up 2 flights of stairs and have a free hand to carry other peoples' kit. The heaviest thing i take is my bass!
 17. The endpin jack is probably the least invasive stable solution, plus it doesn't spoil the look of a very bonny unique bass. Must admit i'm a little jealous! I have a dead simple vol/tone unit wired to the piezo in mine (an old fretless Ozark) and tbh i prefer it to pretty much every battery equipped acoustic bass i've used, especially on a fretless. I just roll the tone right off and it's spot on. You may want to get some black nylons on there if the bass/neck will take it, sounds wonderful!
 18. I've been using a Schroeder 1212r with a LMII for years now, never had volume issues and it's always done a great job despite being so small. It's important to realise that everybody will just recommend what they use though! You might want to have a chat with Mr. Claber about what would suit your requirements, i'm sure he could give you great advice about what would suit you. The Barefaced 2x12 looks good.
 19.
They had gosh awful capacitance, and rolled off highs horribly. We used them anyway, being less than knowledgeable about what capacitance was, and just accepted the loss of highs for the convenience.
All the same i used to love my yellow curly cable, i bought is because Devo used to use them and i thought they looked ace!
 20.
We A/B'd some cables together a couple of rehearsals ago. He's right. The difference in tone is very similar to the difference between new/old strings.
The only real way to tell is to do a blind test with every other factor being a constant. Funnily enough whenever this happens nobody can tell the difference! Incidentally i changed to obbm and home made (same components) cables a while ago and didn't really notice much difference. If my PW cables hadn't become unreliable then i wouldn't have got rid. Maybe your VD/Neutrik cables need looking at?
 21.
The straps are wearing out where they join onto the bag. For me to be happy with the repair it would need new straps attaching which means opening up the seams on the bag where they attach and re-sowing. And of course there's no guarantee that it won't happen again. When I find a suitable replacement you're welcome to have the Ritter bag for the cost of postage and packing.
The same thing happened with my acoustic bass bag when i was at Uni, my mum got it repaired at a local place (i now think it was Bacsew who make amp covers) and they attached the straps to the bag itself and sewed another piece of matching material over it. Looks different but you'd never know it covered a repair and has held steady for 10 years now, if anything it's more sturdy than ever. The company i work for manufacture special needs harnesses and belts so i'm now in a pretty good position if my gigbags ever fail! Very generous offer RE the Ritter btw, thanks bud!
 22.
Slightly tangential but my guitarist doesn't like the sound of my Neutrik/VDC cables.
23.
I can say without fear of contradiction [ALL: OH NO YOU CAN'T!] that Dave Gilmour would have been just as successful had he used cryo cable, ordinary cable or rusty barbed wire.
Except David Gilmour's best recordings most likely didn't use any of that cryogenically frozen BS, so history would tell us that he has actually been far less successful when using it. Listening to some of his solo albums it sounds like they froze his musical ability too....
 24.
I bought one of the Quikloks. Used it twice and it broke. Bolt the holds the side that tightens has sheared. I'm not very happy to be honest.
Maybe try one of the Giraffe ones? The mechanism relies on a sprung bolt that secures the angle, quite sturdy but i wish there was one on the other side for peace of mind.
 25.
A couple of you mentioned the desire for a foot switch mute whilst also indicating your love of the Markbass amp, get an LMK the channel footswitch doubles as a mute for either channel as well as allows you to hit both buttons to jump from channel A to B.
Or just buy a tuner pedal?
