Mark bought my Ryder bass from me, very pleasant and easygoing making him an excellent guy to deal with. Cheers!
3.
predator bass.
T1000 surely? It's not to my taste but you just can't ignore the quality of that finish, it looks amazing.
4.
They haven't published the information yet because they are still making it up!
The news is that the RH450 is actually a 450 megawatt head, comparable in volume terms to the hum that comes from an electricity pylon of course...
5. Well Shinhoman off here picked up a well used red Corvette $$ with a hard case for £416 back in April, there's been a few at the £550 - £600 mark too. Save money and get the real deal!
6.
I really like the RD body shape but for me that style of headstock doesn't suit it at all.
The RD I had (a '77 Artist) looked even odder because it had small Gotoh-style enclosed tuners, original Gibson branded ones though (and no other tuners had ever been fitted to it) but they made the headstock look even longer and out of place. Stunning looking basses but impractical for 99% of the songs i played!
7.
I hate doing this. But I think it looks "Amateur" . The afore mentioned bridge pieces. But Something about the edge of the Fretboard doesn't look right. As if it's not straight on the 'E' side it looks like the string is off the fret board then comes back in around the 5th fret and then tons of room on the 'G' side. I really hope it's just a bad photograph making my eyes go funny though. The body and woods I actually like. I didn't think I would but I do
They are a bit amateur, that's the idea i think. To get a boutique level instrument you have to put a lot of work in yourself and i don't think anyone buys them without taking this into consideration. Some of them look amazing after some serious end-user work, some just look like unfinished planks. I guess you get out what you put in and this is reflected in the price. Part of me quite likes the haphazard shaping and refusal to stick to regimented ideas, part of me recoils in horror at the construction quirks!
8.
The main thing is its a different shape than Krst's main Gibson bass from the Nevermind era. (although i am pretty sure it plays a hell of a lot better: )
It's an old (70s?) Ibanez, so probably a better bass than a modern Gibson! I think Krist had a few of them, one had a bit of the headstock snapped off. I used to love those basses when i was a kid, obviously a bit rare and thus out of my price range though.
9. So he used to occasionally use an RD Artist during the Nevermind tour so they do a sig model that is an RD Standard with totally different pickups to any RD ever produced? I agree that a Ripper would be a better sig bass, maybe Ibanez should reissue the Black Eagle?
10. You don't mean like on a Bolin or EUB?
11.
Resale value? Not always an issue, obv, but it is pretty low.
A very good point. You're looking at sub 50% in most cases.
12.
If someone sees something like this pickup only in central bristol sorta area, just grab it, and I can sort picking it up and sending it out for appropriate money (postage, bus fare, a beer) and some time.
I'm happy to do the same in and around the Blackpool area. I work for a mail order company so have packing materials available freely and regular courier pickups every day.
13. Quality is definitely up there, I doubt you could get better parts for those prices even if they seem expensive nowadays. With Warmoth you get exactly what you want, it definitely lives up to expectations. Mine had the old style jazz neck with steel rods and a slightly clubbier shape, if i was to order one today i would get their newer shape. The steel rods definitely add a bit of noticeable extra weight IMO. Mine was beautiful, I wish I still had it!
14.
Only £6? Can I have a refund, then?
I've actually just been through all the messages to check i hadn't quoted you any more or had made a mistake before i got that! Time for a sit down i think
15. Interparcel will actually ship for £4.99 + VAT if the box has no dimension over 1m and weighs under 10kg, the bass i just sent was 88cm at it's longest and 7kg, cost £6. Winner!!!
16. You could probably work Don't Look Any Further by Dennis Edwards into that - knock it down to G#m C#m D#m
17.
TBF it was only £1500 but Jens got Ken Smith to calculate the postage
18. Not familiar with Stellah but the Shine/Harley Benton ones are surprisingly good for the money and are about £90 when they come up for sale. Probably come from the same factory! The one i had was structurally faultless and was ripe for modding if you wanted to improve the electrics. This kind of thing: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Shine-Extreme-6-String-Bass-Black-/200657353629?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2eb81c3b9d I think the Ibanez and Yamaha 6ers are great starting points, i'd be keeping an eye on this one if i were you: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ibanez-SR886-6-string-bass-/220864622182?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item336c8eae66
19. I have these going spare but before you ask for them be aware that two of them don't come with serials. F.E.A.R. is disc only and arrived in another game case i bought off eBay. The seller didn't want it back and i already have my own copy so it's yours if you want it. Either use your own product key from a damaged disc or use one of those naughty generators. Left4Dead came to me used but the seller didn't realise the key was single-user only and tied to a Steam account which is already in use. It comes with the case but unless you already own your own serial number it's useless. Would be handy if you purchased it online but don't want the 4-5gb download. Unlike a lot of Steam games the disc actually contains the game so it could save you a bit of time or hd space. Sega Bass Fishing is CD only, no case but works perfectly. It's the Explosiv version so is fine with XP and i would imagine Win7 too Anyway, they're free if they're any use, don't wanna split as both discs will be sent in the one case. They're great for laptops and better netbooks as they look good but have meagre requirements.
20. Would be ace with leather patches on the forearm contour - it'd be a Geography teacher's wet dream!
21.
Eye of the beholder, and all that. ... and looks like it's been chucked around a few rehearsal studios by someone wearing gloves made of sandpaper.
Hmmm, i agree. Some of the wear on the rear looks natural but some of the chips and knocks on the front and edges look like they were done yesterday by Mr. Black and Mrs. Decker. The neck is gorgeous but the body looks like a p1ss poor relic job to me.
22. I wonder how much mammoth tusk is. It should probably be illegal seeing as ivory is, what with mammoths being slightly rarer than elephants.... Just think - each time you file the nut slots you're taking hundreds off the value of the bass!
23. Scarified by Racer X
24. I have tried a few (all cheapies) and they all struggled with the E and some with the A also. The one i have at home doesn't make a very good connection with the instrument (spring is too weak) and struggles tuning anything without being phisically pressed onto the surface. Spending more money will probably get you a better product but that kinda defeats the idea for me. I use a Korg Pitchjack for home playing and practice - handles flat tuning which i need and you can put it in loads of 1/4" sockets besides the bass itself like mixers, line or tuner outs etc. http://www.korg.co.uk/products/tuners/pitchjack/tu_pj.asp Also has a little torch!
