  1. If I remember correctly I had a little play on this at the Midlands Bass Bash and can remember saying just how pretty it was. The top is even better in person.
  2. Copy and pasted my own text from the FB page. I won't name names. "I have the option of buying either a Shaftesbury in very good nick or for half the price an Indie IRK in unknown condition. Anyone with any advice of what to go for? I'm in a quandry as I am thinking the half price Indie gives me money to upgrade, but whether I can make it to the standard of the Shafty with that £200 is another question, especially as I don't know what condition the Indie is in."
  3. Anyone have any knowledge of Indie branded fakers? Theres one going for a VERY tempting price on tinterwebs.
  4. I suppose good rule of thumb is look at what bassists you like and what you want to sound like, then look at what basses they use, then look at trying to get similar. If you are transitioning from guitar, you might even find it beneficial to look at anything with a thinner neck and/or a shorter scale.
  5. Better tell Ashcroft then. Turns out the drugs do work 😅
  6. To this day I still don't know how your bass actually worked. Andy used the force or something.
  7. Aye, it is actually lying on my bed next to while I try and figure out which wall hanger to put it on. I've spent the evening arranging and then rearranging a few basses to make the room look less empty - I've sold some stuff recently so there's a lot of empty space on the walls at the moment.
  8. Well I have my own horse in this race, so please excuse the bias.
  9. I can't recommend Andy highly enough for things like this - knocked it out of the park for my "Not-a-Harley-Benton-Any-More" Jazz bass and looks like he's done it once again here. Wish you all the best with it Mike, if it's even half as good as it looks it will be an incredible instrument. Here comes the "I'm gonna ask Andy to do XYZ for me" thoughts again *sigh*
  10. Shameless self promotion I know, but I have an Ashdown 75w amp available on the marketplace here. If you want to come to North Birmingham and have a go then you're more than welcome to.
  11. Glad to hear you're enjoying them mate 😊 On the topic I think I'm going to get a PJ or new JJ set in a few months to go into what will be my bass for Uni - cheap enough to fit in with student budgets but plenty good enough for if I get into a band there (which I plan to do). Long and short, if it wasn't for me getting an amazing deal on the super hot Duncans (SJB-2s I think?) in my signature red Jazz bass, it would still have the JBXNs. The best (at least for me) set of J Bass pickups I have heard that you can get for under £100 for the set.
  12. Hi Dazed They are a lot louder and a bit brighter than some Jazz pickups I've used, put possibly also my favourite Jazz pickups. There is a video somewhere on YouTube of someone using them in a sherwood green fender Jazz bass. Give it a watch if you're interested. I last week sold a set of them in the marketplace here, but can definitely see me buying a new set in the not too distant future. Cheers, HB
  13. Someone has to love the Blues, we're difficult to love these days 😅 GLWTS
  14. It's local and I'm sure it sounds good, so tempted. Only thing letting it down is the colour - Claret is not welcome in this Royal Blue home 😂
  15. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vintage-Jedson-IMPACT-Electric-Bass-Guitar-60-s-70-s-Made-in-Japan/332503536010?hash=item4d6ac1518a:g:9Y0AAOSw8UZaR3xF Looks cool and fairly cheap - Anyone know anything about it?
  16. It certainly looks nice anyway Robin, and I'm sure it can be made to play good too (if it doesn't already) Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and welcome to Basschat!!!
  17. most folk here don't know difference but aye
  18. to be fair he was a big part of the early days of UK hip hop. The likes of Kano, Dizzee Rascal, JME, Sway, Skepta, Tinie Tempah, and more recently Stormzy, have all worked with him
  19. A nice member of the honours list for me is local lad Charlie Fogarty. He was a youth footballer for the Birmingham academy when he was involved in a car crash that left him in a coma and severely brain damaged. A few years on he's done work for disabled football teams all over the midlands and set up Solihull Moors disabled open-age team, and hopes to get into the Paralympic GB team. All aged just 18. To me, these are the sorts of people that deserve all the credit.
  20. "You know how I'm your favourite child?..." Current debate is Renegade vs Rockinbetter. Both are the same price but only one can win...
  21. after a very promising start of the year (new band with very talented musicians), I have ended the year on a grand total of 1.5 gigs - one as a stand in for a friends band and the half a one being from what was a rehearsal being put on the venues stage and about 25 people coming in and watching (although probably because the bar was in the same room as the stage). Still, the bar for improvement in 2018 is currently set quite low.
  22. out of my budget unfortunately... I think I'm going to bide my time and save for a bit and hope the right one comes available.
