The Fishman is for my double bass, MicroBass II for bass guitar. I switch between them with the Mooer ABY.

I mention because the ebs microbass 3 has 2 inputs (and channels), sufficient impedance for a double bass, and then all the features of the Fishman except the notch filter and hpf

Anyway just a thought. I really liked the fishman though, eq is really musical and subtle

  2. Wanted to update this. I’m still (pretty) happy with this unit. There is some noise, kinda high pitched digital noise but I can’t hear it when playing along to things.

I updated the firmware again yesterday, there is now a tuner (maybe there was before but they have it in the release notes) in the app and I loaded on a bunch of Shiftline IR’s which all sound great.

I can’t imagine a better, smaller tool. It’s my practice setup and in a pinch a recording interface. Overall it means the footprint of the gear I carry for these purposes is tiny.

Definitely going to be investigate additional IR’s…. oh and I found out I can drag and drop the fx blocks and ordering of them so I’ve started running compression post IR. I think it sounds better before the amp but it’s nice as a different flavour.

  3. Input and output transformer.

Annoyingly the hpf is useless and I didn’t like the higher gain settings. So you’re paying a premium for a pedal you aren’t using all of.

But it is a neve strip in a box and you can DI into and out of it

  4. Now I’m looking at the M-EQ, DCX and Cali and wondering I can put them in a loop switcher inside the pre and post loops of a capo to have like a full studio console that you can repatch live and would all fit on a pt metro16 or nano 😂

I need to try a colourbox again 😅

I'm loving their way of thinking, everybody's always chasing our favourite tones from the records, which was more likely achieved by expensive studio gear rather than humble pedals. I for one would be excited by a transformer equipped Neve  inspired pre 😍

I'd personally prefer to try the DCX first as £250 is a lot to drop when I know I won't use the heavy drive tones.

  6. Wait wait there is a pultec eq? From origin?…..

(Obviously I’ve just gone to Google that and really did not know that was a thing) dayum

Well theres been an 1176 a Pultec style eq and now a 610 pre so a Neve or API type unit would be a logical next pedal as they cover guitar and bass or any source

  7. I found the RNDI too clean, to the point it was bland.

I primarily play a Ric with flats, for years I used a countryman type 10.

Recently had the opportunity to try the Motown Di and directly compare it to the Neve, Countryman and a Radial Stagebug (passive).

I’d bought the stagebug as the cheap, smallest high quality di I could find with a view to have it in a gigbag for emergencies.

I bought the neve and wholly expected to sell the stagebug and countryman, maybe buy a Acme.

    Results of my shootout:

    I sold the neve

Bought 2 more stagebugs (one in each gigbag)

    Kept the countryman

The stagebugs sound shockingly close to the Motown di.

The countryman is more open and clear without being boring.

I can pm you the Dropbox link with my very rough playing if you want to compare and decide for yourself.

But in short you do not NEED an active di for a passive bass. It does provide more headroom and a stronger signal but no Soundman will struggle with a passive instrument into a passive di.

Everything I found in my shootout was instantly wiped out as soon as they started turning on neve eqs and studio compressors etc.

There is a secondhand stagebug on bassdirect for £60 I would suggest you get that and see if you are left wanting on a gig.
