3 Bolt Necks vs. The Rest of The World
fleabag replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
My ESP LTD fretless must be some kind of freak, with it's 6 bolt neck. Seems pretty stable though -
Likewise Treat yourself , Dorsey fans ..

Indeed - she's very humble for a very talented person. Bass, Guitar, and great vocalist. I'd love 10% of her abilities

Yup, saw her clutching that like a precious jewel. Fair play - great tone, as we could all hear

That is fabulous H.

I like Scott's attitude to interviewing - let's them talk and doesn't ask dumb schoolboy questions. She mentioned she started on guitar , and although later on in her life she declined an offer to play guitar for Prince, she certainly played guitar for Bowie on Ashes to Ashes live at the BBC in 2000. She wapped instruments with guitarist Mark Plati, who swapped to bass for that track

The talented Gail chatting about playing bass for - wait for it - Culture Club and Donny Osmond, amongst others - Bowie of course. And her Epiphone and Kramer basses in the early days. Fascinating woman - so easy to listen to and laid back.

Cheers BB - didn't know those 2 were inspired by the MM tone.

Hard to know on the recording Like a lot of pro artists, he may well have recorded on a particular bass, but played a different bass when gigging

I dont know enough about components to say about a difference - maybe it doesnt have any difference on lower power circuits. I had a read on some sites, including here, and some say its good and some say it's not , with respect to tone. Someone on ( cant remember where ) said bits fell off his Stinger, and another said he wired his in, then immediately took it out again. The East MMSR is not a direct copy , as stated by John himself , but he uses good quality components, and his pre's are exceptional in build quality. Hence the higher price. I guess i'm leaning more towards John's pre - i've had a few of his in the past and they're the canine's cobblers. I dont know what's out there apart from the Stinger and John's MMSR - so it may be that i've only got 2 choices

Me too. Had the vinyl ( what a cover that is - and then you look inside the cover - officer ) Then bought the round tin CD. It had a great pull out , all concertina'd , and about 6 beer mats that were a copy of the face of the tin. Marvellous. Still got it Love is like an 'ole in the wall A line-up in the warehouse no trouble at all

Got a jazz shape body, and its been through some mods here and there, and not sure where to go with it now, as its been resigned to the cupboard I had a think and decided maybe the way to go would be to fit a single MM ( Warman UK ) that i have lying around. The MM pickup has already been in a bass that i moved on so i know how good the pickup is already, but the body is going to take some work. Pup routs need filling, then the body needs sanding flat and veneering. Its the preamp where the stumbling block occurs. I guess my options are either a Stinger 2 band, or East MMSR 2 band. There's a big price difference of course. I've seen a photo of the Stinger guts, and it clearly showed that Chinese copy of Elnea capacitors were used ( Kelnea ) so the rest of the pre maybe has cheap compenents too whereas the East probably has much better quality components, so anyone recommend either as an option ? Are there other 2 band pre's that come close ?

A great track indeed - even Grace Jones did a cover version

Are you bothered if you ding your relic’d bass?

I suppose so Hey...is the sin bin at Silverstone with some racing hogs to play on ? That would be some punishment -
I drooled over the configurator - had to have a cup of tea after that.
