1.
About 18 months ago I set out to do as much depping as I could. I have just gone through this year's calendar, and by tomorrow night I will have played with 14 different bands since 1st January. 4x function/party bands 1x country band 2x tribute bands 4x pub/rock bands 1x choir 1x big band 1x duo Well I think I've achieved my goal!
Nice girls don't kiss and tell. You'll get a reputation.
 2. Nice, a robot tuner. Next we'll have one to play the intstument for us too.
 3. Can't help thinking we are all fools being sucked into a post by an attention mongering troll who knows little of the subject of jazz. Count me as one of the fools. This is my last comment on this thread.
 4.
Managing a board full of bass pedals is hard to manage. There's a lot of tweaking needed to get it right. Especially when your using overdrive, distortion and octave pedals. It's a pain in the arse but when you get it right it can be awesome. Blue
It's an art in itself isn't it? Besides playing the right notes at the right time one is stomping the right pedals at the right time as well. I admire anyone who can do it with taste. Exclude me from that group, I'm a bit simple. Just handling the bass alone is enough for me . -Scott
 5.
I keep taking mine out...and then unplug it and do the gig natural.
Same here. Effects just mess up my sound. Nothing beats nothing in front of my amp.
 6. "Jamerson... a bit of a one trick donkey" Interesting cliche and even more interesting, the word substitution. The hall of famer redefined. Thank you for the clarification.
 7.
Excellent comment and rebuttal of the OPs nonsensical opinion. Blue
Just thought it needed saying. Go ground breakers, eh? -Scott
 8.
Never thought it would happen, been into and played rock, metal and a bit of punk for the last 20 years (but always in fairness still enjoyed most styles of music I've come across to some degree) but jazz has always been a bit of an enigma to me. I've always appreciated the considerable skill demonstrated by those that play it (moondance exempted ) but it's always felt to me more like an interesting technical exercise than any kind of engaging or emotional experience. Just recently though I've been doing a bit of 'YouTube research' into a new amp which lead me to the Aguilar YouTube channel. There seems to be a certain prevalence amongst their demo videos for Fodera toting jazz virtuosos but I decided to have a listen anyway starting with guys I was at least fairly familiar with. Anyway, after watching a couple of videos by Felix Pastorius and Janek Gwizdala, I realised I'd listened to them not to hear how the Aguilar gear sounded as I'd intended, but just enjoying the music. Now I'm not about to hang up my proverbial leather trousers and buy myself a black turtle-neck and beret or anything but does anyone have any suggestions for listening material - ideally bass orientated but preferably not too slap happy? I'd also be interested in hearing any YouTube tuition videos that people can recommend for this style.
Good for you !
 9.
Of course all music is totally subjective but what I've heard of Jaco Pastorius has been a total let down compared to what I've heard other people say about him* Granted, I've only heard some of the most well known tracks and to me it was just disjointed... It sounded like I'd just walked into any guitar shop in the world... Aimless noodling... Anyone got any suggestions that may change my mind?
While you're at it throw Mingus, Orsted Pederson, Clarke, and Berlin under the bus too. They were considered ground breaking bassists as well.
 10.
Are there many of you guys out there who don't use any pedalboard effects at all?
I have effects but I only use them to play around with when I'm bored. My opinion is they screw up my sound. To me a bass sounds best plugged straight in.
 11.
What do you guys think he does well?
Well first off he holds the bottom like a sunken anchor. He spikes that with a melodic creativity bassist's have never known his heretofore. And he smiles all the while singing like the canary who ate the cat.
 12. I'll miss him - one of the first and best prog rock bassists.
 13. 48 too young to die - loved his music.
 14.
I play both strings, the fat ones unsure what the other two are for, that's awful close to guitar area...
Yep, the skinny strings can be a bother especially if you play with hoofs. Consider a two string bass ? JK bro, welcome aboard! Don't know that I'm allowed to do welcomes, I'm only a newbie myself. I just liked your quick hello .
 15.
Drew Barrymore, a vat of Swarfega and lots of cling film.
That went over my head, but it sounds like fun. Add a case of Hennessy .
 16.
I was only joking mate, as said, I would take me P bass and the old SVT2 mit der Barefaced Super twin !
My bad, I misread you. Cheers ! Right, you did post your favs - I missed it. Duh!
 17. Love Bacarach, Sorry I missed the program. Maybe next time.
 18.
Oh no, Scott. Far from it. No worries. I just failed to convey my state of mind, which was not unfriendly, and my (wry? - don't really know what that word means) smile. best, bert
It's all good, isn't it? Best of intentions on both sides I've no doubt. Looking forward Bert, to reading and responding to your future posts.
 19.
why so? if you were compiling something where you were asking 5$ for a song download as a profitable ongoing business i would start by researching what would be the most likely and popular tracks rather than my personal preference
And maybe that's what they did. They might have looked at the market of possible interested users and decided classic rock players would be the most profitable venue. Classic rock isn't always easy to decipher. Classic rock players might be willing to shell out a few bucks for some help. Let's concetrate on a playlist that will make us some money.
 20.
It's a start and potentially a great resource.
It is a great resource. Many of the songs are rock classics and there is much to be learned from listening to the isolated bass tracks.
 21.
not particularly comprehensensive imho - the track availability list looks like its come straight out of someones personal cd stash
Well yeah, it had to come from someones stash.
 22.
Five bucks a song? I think I'll carry on the way I've been going thanks
I guess it's kind of steep considering you can download songs from Amazon for about a buck thirty. Those don't enable you to isolate the bass track, but if you're sharp (and I'm sure you are) you don't need the extra help. I admire your ability. Truly, I do .
 23.
Hey, well done for being open and honest, Scott, and I'm glad you enjoy the app. There's always going to be some skeptisism when money's involved (i.e. parting with it). $5 a track is much more than I pay for sheet music and digital downloads etc. but if it works for you and others find it helpful then that's what the forum is about - spreading the news of all things bass related!
Thanks Phil. Boy am I sorry I opened up that can of worms. Hate to admit it but I can be kind of naive about some things. Live and learn.
 24.
Thanks for your response. Re-reading what I wrote, I think I came across more grumpy and less humourous than I intended. My aim was mostly to be open about the possibility of viral marketing, without concluding, and to make you aware about our possible response, but also to possibly make other people aware who are on mobile platforms and who cannot see the post count and membership date. I hope you're straight and honest, and in case apologise for the inconvenience. Bert
No hard feelings on my end Bert, hopefully not on yours either. You are right to be skeptical, and I realize this after reading your reasons for being so. I suppose I just didn't think how it might look, me being a newbie and touting a relatively unknown product. I assure you though - I am completely on the up and up. I'm just here to enjoy the banter and to contribute something if I can. -Scott
