1.
i've got a uk built evo11 but theres just something about the look of a klystron amp and the cabs, imo of course!
The 500 head looks nice, but the 1000 looks too big IMO. And I'm not a big fan on the styling of the new cabs. The combos do look very very nice though
  2.
wonder if they are gonna stop making the klystron range?hope not as i would buy those instead of the valve head and the usa cabs !
TBH I'd rather have the UK-built ABM EVO II than the new Klystron or EVO III heads.
  3.
That is *the tits*. Where did you get the grille?
Cheers Already had the grille in the garage off an old bass cab.
that is a steal, hmmm i may just be tempted. where did you get the wood from again?
Got the wood from B&Q, they do 6'x2' or 8'x4' sheets of 12mm ply. Check them well and make sure they're decent pieces. They'll also cut the sheets to the size you want. I got the bracing there too, 18mmx20mm planed hardwood in 2.4m lengths.
  4.
not to shabby! wish I had the space and tools to do work like that, definately great value for money
You only need a few tools - a drill, screwdriver and router (or jigsaw) pretty much covers it.
  5.
Very tidy!! If it sounds half as good as it looks, watch out cab manufacturers everywhere!!!!! Well done that man!
Cheers, compared to the ABM the mids and highs are a bit clearer. I don't know if that's because the ABM has more bass response, or if this has less
MB1. Very Professional sir! are the red and green ones prototypes?
Yep but the binman keeps moving them every fortnight
nice, how much did that cost you all and all?
£63.24 for everything except the speakers and a few parts.
  6.
I just can't see another reason for introducing a line of backbreakingly heavy amps and cabs when everyone else is going smaller and lighter. I wonder how they are different from the ABM range.
After the Superfly series and the current delay of the Little Giant amps, I can. Which manufacturer is making small, lightweight, 400W, all-valve heads?
  7.
Fairy nuff. You'd think they'd take 'Made in the PRC' off the illustration on their site though, wouldn't you? Ashdown. Crazy guys.
Yeah I don't understand that. Bit like everywhere advertising their 300W heads as 307W
  8.
£1600 for an amp made in China by a company with a reputation for building flaky amps?
It's built in the USA.
Isn't it just a valve power section too?
It has a 12AX7 preamp.
  9. f***, a grand would be pushing it...
  10. Finished pictures: ABM410 for comparison:
  11.
So long as you're 'a man of wealth and taste' then I'm sure you'll be very welcome
+1 & hello
  12.
My mate paid nearly £900 for his 1x15 evo when they first came out years ago, right after he bought it they upped it to 500w (his is 300w) and lowered the price! Sounds bloody awful too, i gigged with it a few times and wished i could take off all the buttons and sliders and add a "better and louder" switch. Oh and it's too heavy too!
I'm not a fan of Ashdown 15's. There's not a great deal of volume from them when used as a single cab. The 10's are very good though
  13.
wow looks great good work
Thanks
  14.
What a bargain they are at that price, I have bookmarked them straightaway. I am using a 6" as I am after building a really small amp (10" cube) I am experimenting with a small 40 watt amp module and pre-amp unit that were £25.00 on ebay. The amp will have just a volume as I mean to use it just in the front room with my Korg ampworks. The other half hates having my gear in the front room so I think a 10" cube will just about sneak in. I am definitely putting one of those handles on the top of it, good link...cheers
Cool, I think one handle on the top will look really good Blue Aran don't sell screws that will fit them but I picked some self-tapping ones up with the proper sized countersunk head from a local hardware store @ 60p for 10. If you have trouble finding any, give me a shout. Do you have a link for the amp module? I'd like to try something similar. Cheers
  15.
Good work mate The side handles are excellent where did you source them from ? I was looking at using an Eminence 6" 300 watt driver for a little practice amp. Looking forward to the sound review. What amp will you be driving them with ?
Thanks The handles are from Blue Aran: clicky. What sized enclosure are you thinking of building? Personally I'd go for an 8" or 10" speaker. Gona be using the Ashdown ABM head (which weighs more than the cab ). Not had time to play through it much apart from a volume test, but it's nice and loud and nothing has snapped, crackled or popped
  16. More progress today: Proper camera pictures tomorrow
  17. I used polyurethane sprays and it came out pretty well. B&Q do Plastikote colours and poly varnish for about a fiver a can.
  18. Just got in from padding inside, gluing the front baffle (using 20 screws, is that overkill? ) and cutting the grille to the right size. Need to pick up some wood tomorrow to make the border for the grille to be fixed to, hopefully the model/hobby shop will have something suitable. SO CLOSE TO FINISHING! I really need it ready for Monday...
Nice router work - looking smart! Alex
Thanks, I am a novice with the router Not really used it for much before this project, but it was so easy to round the edges with a round-over + bearing and they've come out really well. I must say it's a good job them circles didn't need to be perfect
  19.
Absolutely and that's when all my new song ideas appear! The power of noodling... Alex
Yeah but then I forget them 5 mins later Although I must have about 300 randomly recorded riffs on the PC
  20. Bollocks, that Squier Precision would've been a boss project
  21. Yes, but you can move the bridge towards the neck (I think) to compensate.
  22. Some progress Almost finished painting - got to refinish the top as there is a slight bump in the wood which has raised after the first round of painting and is being a persistant little bugger even after sanding it down (btw I'm using Blue Aran's "Tuff Cab" paint) Got the handles/ports/speakon plate on and silicon sealed, 4 bottom corners on and started with the acoustic padding this evening. Pictures Baffle painted: Box painted: Parts attached: Some close-ups: Also sorted out a grille, more photos soon
