1. How much could you make one of these for (but fretted, passive plus a jazz bridge pickup)?
2. Just the grilles left
3. No offence but do they actually expect to sell any at that price?
4. Make sure nothing is loose on the router and in the workspace before you start. A stray bolt destroyed a straight cutter on mine the other day... Fortunately it wasn't the round-over bit or I'd've been snookered for finishing the edges on the cab. A table isn't really necessary, as people have said you can get good results with a workmate + clamps and just take your time. Cutters with bearings on are extremely useful

6. Replied, corners and recess plate gone.
7.
But nobody in a correct, professional, versatile, state of mind takes a 4 string bass to gig, where they know that a 5/6/7 will offer AND deliver so much more
A few extra notes, bad back and a sore wrist?
8. Micheal "Flea" Balzary 75% Victor Wooten 42% Jaco Pastorius 25% Pete Wentz 17% John Myung 8%
9.
Ideally you'd aim for there to be no more than an 8" unbraced span anywhere on the cabinet, but your handle placement and your current braces preclude that without tons of bracing. A front to back brace roughly between the centre of the baffle and back will make a big difference though. When you add the damping make sure it doesn't block the port airflow or insulate the driver frames (which are part of the cooling mechanism). Stick some in your ABM whilst you're at it! Alex
Cheers dude, it's not obvious in the picture but there is a brace between the front and back. I'm gona do 5 sides and leave the front uninsulated since there's not a massive amount of space left to cover anyway. Will keep you posted.
10.
Tidy work! I'd have intuitively done a bit more bracing but I think you'll be fine as the Beta 10s won't be creating the huge internal pressures my cabs have to deal with. Don't skimp on the damping - I'm amazed how many production cabs have just a layer of insulation on the back wall and nothing anywhere else! So does it weigh half as much as the old cab? Alex
Cheers matey, still thinking of where to put some more batons - probably across the front and back panels. What do you reckon? I've got a load of wadding here to be stuck in The ABM doesn't even have any on the back wall Guestimating it'll weigh 15-18kg once finished, the old one is probably 35kg
11. Cheers, I'm hoping to have it finished over the weekend It's styled a little around my ABM410 TBH the tweeter couldn't have gone anywhere else without making the box bigger and on the ABM only the outside of the handles is the circular part - inside the cab it's actually just a square recess. The handles I have for this are circular. And cutting circles with a router as it spews dust into your face is one of the most difficult things ever
12. It's not much to look at atm (and had to use my camera phone sorry), rounded all the corners with the router earlier. I'm now completely covered in sawdust but the box looks 1000 times better than with bashed square edges Forgot to mention the dimensions: 23" x 16" x 16"
13. Rover 25, 100k miles, uses more water than petrol = about the same as all my gear
14.
I generally don't mind it (in fact I often offer). Although I'd never just let someone borrow my rig or guitar without me actually being there and I have a strict "No beer bottles/glasses on me rig" policy. When I was gigging with my Ashdown gear I'd always check with the supports whether their basses were active or not - often I'd get a blank stare in return or a helpful "Dunno" then I'd sort them out with the correct inputs and character settings. Once a guy at a pretty packed bill night who obviously didn't know who I was snarled "Why wot the f*** has it got to do with you?" at me for asking, I spotted that his was passive and walked away - he could do his own feckin settings, he was lucky he had an amp to play through that night. He was evidently still up his own arse later on even after he'd found out he'd bad mouthed the headliners. His band won't get a share next time.
+1 on the drinks. Wasn't the bassist but the lead guitarist of some band we were playing with who I got attitude from. I was just showing their bassist the basics on the ABM and he comes over: "Who the f*** are you?". I informed him that it was my amp and asked if he could still play guitar with the headstock 3ft up his arse I never lend stuff out when I'm not gona be at the gig, and very rarely let people use my amp. I never let anyone use my guitars
15. I built a huge 210 cab out of 3/4" MDF about 3 years ago, and due to being stored in a sh*t barn practice space the MDF has started to split... About a week ago I picked up some 12mm ply to make a compact 2x10" + tweeter using the Eminence Beta 10's out of the old cab. So far I've built it up to 5 sides (front baffle missing) with all the internal bracing done and cut the holes for handles/speakers/ports. Pics tomorrow
16. No, but thinking of making one after the 2x10", maybe a 12" + 6" + tweeter.
17.
Like these, were they? http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1004061iggypop1.html
This is the best thing I've ever read. Apart from that book about zombies. Maybe.
18.
Sounds like a fret levelling or the like is needed.
pwned I'll look into it.
19. Setting my precision up atm is proving to be a nightmare - can't get the action any lower than ~4mm @ 12th fret without buzz on/above the 15th fret
20. FWIW the Squier VMJ is a very good instrument, I'd rather modify that than buy a more expensive bass to keep standard - just makes it a lot more personal IMO Edit: Then again I do like to build and modify stuff
