Maybe he was a better musician than given credit for. It seems he could play at least two chords without moving his fingers....

I watched the BBC feature this morning, it was quite a shock and very sad. Back in the 90's, I worked with Jim quite a bit. I was in the side band that would back him on CSE (armed forces shows) in various obscure places around the World. Extremely witty and funny man, with a great imagination. He was very serious about his music.

Maybe he was searching for a certain courier company to take a Jazz Bass to Bavaria?

Oh I do like to be beside the seaside.... Voted and well done all.

Yeah, I have just tried to vote as well. A no go, poll closed.

Yeah, a great tune. Although, not totally his composition, he co-wrote it with three others.... Looks like Christopher had some good mates that he dragged along to the session. Personnel Christopher Cross – lead vocals, guitar Michael Omartian – keyboards, synthesizer, string arrangements David Hungate – bass guitar Steve Lukather – guitar Eric Johnson – guitar Jeff Porcaro – drums Ernie Watts – saxophone Michael Boddicker – synthesizer programming Lenny Castro – percussion Paulinho da Costa – percussion

Yeah a great tune, it's also a very good cover and well played. Although, vocally I prefer the (original) Christopher Cross vocals. Why have they missed out the (Michael McDonald) vocal answering phrases?

I thought the gag was 1516? (Unless you want to get all irrational about it).

That's a misplaced Mars Bar in 4/4.

No, You're not losing your mind. There was (supposedly) some sampling going on with the AW track (from the single - She's a Fox). If there was some sampling going on, that might account for the tuning being in the cracks. (Also the horns sound like they are from an older soul track as well, so maybe there were samples from more than one source used?). I do remember reading an article, in which P-Nut said he put the backing track together for her, but others claimed along with album notes, that it was just a demo track. The interesting thing with all this was; P-Nut sued AW/Mick Ronson or the record company, won, and he was then credited... Sorry for getting busy on a tuning issue, but it's all out there on the World Wide Web. "Lonnie Youngblood & Jimi Hendrix - She's a Fox"

Yeah. pretty much how I see/hear it. l always look/listen for one, even if I don't play on it (or have to anticipate it).

'Weird Time signatures'? 3/5/7/9/11/13/15 etc... Odd yes, but what's weird?

Indeed. Do you remember Johnny Harris & his Orchestra? Certainly, a lively TV Orchestra. Check out the arrangements and of course the playing...(And a mention for his entertaining, 'out there' conducting) .

Yeah, it does seem strange still, although I have seen the Yellowjackets with both Jimmy Haslip and Dane Alderson, always a killer gig whoever is on Bass. One of my favourite bands.

Yeah, he is great. I have seen him live a few times over in Spain. There is an interesting version of 'Bluestorius' on YouTube somewhere (although on fretted). 👍

Jacob Collier Changing the rules of Music!!!
lowdown replied to KingPrawn's topic in General Discussion
I thought there was some pretty stunning arrangements on the Prom show (whoever the other arranger(s) were - He didn't do them all, I don't think). The Orchestra were great, but that particular Dutch Orchestra always are. Although I am not keen on his voice on certain tunes (hit & miss at times) Jacob Collier has some fantastic ideas regarding Harmony and Rhythm. Certainly a musician who knows what he is doing. For me it was pretty enjoyable, with some decent performances from all involved. Jules Buckley was on top form as well... -
Victor Bailey with ‘Steps Ahead’ on the ‘Magnetic ‘ album.

Gary Willis on the early ‘Tribal Tech’ albums. Some terrific playing.

There is a transcription of the Bill Evans solo knocking around on the net. Well worth a look.

Instrumental (Jazz) wise, I have always played 'Autumn Leaves' in Gm & Em... This always makes me snigger. "Gm if you're playing with boppers, Em if you're with gypsy jazz cats, and whatever the flip minor if you're with a singer.' Then there is just about any key you want. Someone on the net got very busy. Bm - MJQ Cm - Oscar Peterson, Stan Getz Dm - Dave Grusin, Maynard Ferguson Ebm - Oscar Peterson Em - Martin Taylor, Joe Pass, Kenny Dorham, Benny Golson Fm - Chet Baker, Paul Desmond, Dizzie Gillespie F#m - Earl Klugh Gm - Bill Evans, Cannonball Adderley, McCoy Tyner, Wynton Marsalis, Acker Bilk, Miles Davis, Jim Hall, Kenny Burrell, Bireli Lagrene, Julian Lage, Lee Konitz, Tal Farlow, Michael Petrucciani, Scott Hamilton, Wynton Kelly All the best with the audition. 🤗
