My nephew is guitarist Musician type of person like you... He spins the decks.' I now tell holiday folk i am a cab driver..... Then grind them to death with my life on the road as a cabbie..... Garry
 2. A couple of Geezers with names that sounded like Sweedish Chefs, Did some sessions for some Scandinavian pop band, Garry
Sib 5 isn't as good as 4 though
Why is that ? I am still on Sibelius 4, and was wondering about doing an upgrade to V5. Is it not worth it ? Garry
 5. For all you Purple Fans... Dont get any better than this ! Would be great to be in a music shop at the weekend in Japan. [ If you are a thief ] The " If you play ...... ..... , put the money in the box" Should be crammed with Yen. 6.
Smoke on the Water
I thought you were joking.. But i think you meant this version. http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Jt8wFNDzx10 Garry
 7.
Great tune, isn't it. Try to get hold of Oscar Peterson's 'We Get Requests' CD. Ray Brown plays bass and this version is held up as an example of really good, spare bass playing with every note counting. It also shows that a tune can swing without being up-tempo.
Yep someone burnt that for me [oops]. did i say that! Funny you mention Mr Brown... I was watching L.A is my Lady [with old Blue eyes] This afternoon. And Ray Brown was just amazing on that session, Along with the rest of the band of course... 'Mack the knife' from the same session...yep it sure did swing ! Garry
 8. Or another good bet, Is get an Audio / Midi interface that has direct monitoring. Then the recording / latency thing is not a problem. Cubase compensates for this. This can be done within Cubase. Or You can do this pretty exact , with manual imput. [ loop back test / record ] Garry
 9. This is just what you need... Free and very easy to use. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ Garry
 10.
Cubase 5 already they have not sorted out 4 yet.
Thats why i have stayed with SX3 and XP. Working great, very stable. I think i have got past the 'keep upgrading stage - cause every one else does' My neighbour [Full time writer] has Cubase 4 and Vista . And he is always pulling his hair out with the problems. Garry
 11. I have the N8... I Paid about £550.00... But i think they are cheaper at the moment. The Audio sound in/out is very good. [ Not a bad sounding compressor either] Also very stable. Bundled Cubase is a bit limited compared to My Cubase SX3. [ Cubase 4 seems to still be buggy] [I will wait until September when Cubase 5 is due.] But more than enough features. Also with the Yamaha desk, you do get the real recording feeling, Not like you are just sitting in the office... Great bit of kit. Garry
 12. And how many keyboard players say... " I have these really nice changes for Summertime" Chromatic...blah blah etc And they think every other keys player in the world has not said that... Had a nice surprise a few days ago [not that i do many jazz gigs anymore] 'Have you met miss Jones'... [and not as a funk tune either...!!!] Not sure why i like that tune...but i do. Proberly 100's of better tunes. 'My Funny Valentine' as the BALLAD..Droaning on for hours. [Every one has to take a solo] Nice tune though Garry
 13.
Can't agree, it's got the best middle section in the real book. If you can make a really good improvisation in that section you can really play.
Love the tune. But i am amazed how many people still get lost in the middle Blue bossa gets done to death. Fly me to the moon...Just " I will survive" really Garry
 14. On Golden Pond - Grusin at his emotional best.Superb Piano. Tootsie...Just Love it. Most of Hans Zimmer. The Wiz...Superb Tunes and Grooves. Danny Elfman - Batmans returns...very clever [Just love his work] And He knows his Jazz! Garry
 15.
I'm one of those that spent an awful lot of my youngers years being influenced by Mark King. True to form, I'm not as good, or likely ever to be as good as the guys I listen(ed) to. When I listen back to some of the stuff I used to do back then, it was horrendous. I used to slap pretty much everything. I still do a bit of slap now and again. But these days, I try do it where I feel it might be appropriate, so it's less and less. I try with less percussion, and more groove. I also try and play it in such a way that it sits totally with what the drummer is playing, and maybe to give a cover a slightly different approach to the original. So I don't think wholely that slapping is a bad idea, but done badly and too often it is.
Might be worth changing your name to funky fingers. I think we might have all been down your road at some time [ if we are honest - and we proberly aint ] Garry
 16.
Unfortunately alot players don't seem to understand that thumping is just another way of sounding a note and not a style of music.
well put. Try playing say..a Twelve bar at 170 bpm in shuffle feel. Only thumbing the note,no pulls or ghost notes,or octaves. Just a steady solid swing [and in time] Plenty of so called slappers fall over on that one. The one that got me is... [hope he is not a fellow basschatter] A bass player at a recent corporate gig i was on [he was in the function band] Spent ages sound checking , [digging in to our turn rehearsal ] Trying to get a slap sound....then spent all night playing with his fingers! When it came to the thump break in Car Wash.... Made a complete f......g arse of it. Back to topic....slapping in Bad salads..! Garry

 19. I got one of these about 6/7 months ago. Comes bundled with its own version of Cubase. Its a digital mixer / controller and a superb Audio interface. Its more money than you wanna spend. But in the long term, a good investment.Everything Bundled in. You can pick them up for just over £500. Its seemless with Cubase. Best bit of kit i have got hold of. http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/73841 If you go to the Yamaha site you can see Full vids of the thing in action. Garry

 25.
So for her at least, it doesn't seem to be the cash cow she was hoping for, despite all the development there. The strength of the euro means that the pound sterling doesn't stretch as far as it used to.
Thats True. But we purchased about 5 years ago.So i do not have to worry about that side of things. And we will be earning Euros , it will be the other way around for me. Another factor for me, is that i have 3 & 1/2 year old lad... And i fancy bringing him up in elsewhere. Its amazing how many Brits i have met , who have made a bulls up of the Spanish Thing . Bad Business planning, Buying propeties to rent out with big mortgages [when there are so may of them around] And now can not sell because of the currency thing, and the Housing market problem over here.
