Ok, Does not sound like a good situation. But reading into your post, its seems you were a dep. If so, and you are depping or freelancing. Its a good idea to have this sort of stuff under your belt. Or some sort of contact with the singer before the gig so you can do some homework. The tunes you mention do pop up quite a lot. And as Happy Jack said. SW is well worth a good listen.

Some fantastic harmony going on, and well executed. Great for ear study and arranging ideas. Not every Jazzers cup of tea. [ Parker solo glued in there somewhere as well, if i remember they had to modulate into the original key ] And i think you will find "Mikey D" is correct about AJ and the Moog bass on " We can work it out" Arif Mardin Arrangements superb.
