1.
Decades ago, singers had to nail the songs, and musicians too.
You still do - If you don't, you wont get asked back. [This is if you are booked/hired as a freelancer] Bands paying for their own demo's/albums/tracks is a different matter, feck up as much as you want and maybe the engineer or someone producing [if you are lucky] might try and fix things for you after, but if you have run out of booked time it will cost you. Or of course you could take the Wav files home and fix it yourself. Garry
 2.
I'm from 1976 I would not have a clue which manufacturer was doing good stuff in my year.
Hose pipe manufacturers. Garry
 3.
How many of us use effects on our basses? Surely this is just the same.
Of course - the voice is an Instrument as well [In the right hands of course - Just like Bass playing] Garry
 4.
I got the arse because I was going to put vocals on it but needed a mic lead because mine had died and I don't want to have to go out and buy one this month and my compressor was arsing about and I couldn't get the guitar sound I wanted for the lead (which was a total botch anyway) and the drum sounds were sh*t so I compressed them and added some gain so the drums sounded great but the cymbals were too heavy and, somehow, in the wrong place and ..... You get the idea
You might find this handy...I know i does for me. It won't help you write notes and make you a million $'s, But it sure helps complicate matters. 5. For anyone interested. Nice run down on various stuff - Comps, EQ's and a lot of other stuff. http://www.meldaproduction.com/audiotutorials/ Garry
 6. Queen could have done with one in the middle section of BR live at Wembley, then they could have done away with the Backing track ... Garry
 7.
hmmmmm.... something like thus is taking the p************** IMO.
Yep - Those carpet slippers get right up my f**k**g nose. Garry
 8.
The technology is there to help. Why not use it?
I agree - The whole music business is about technology. Bands and Duo's having been using them for years - as in anything, some of the units are not so good, and a couple of them sound great. I think the OP is talking about Harmonising or doubling up, not pitch correcting Garry
 9. I recently came back from the states, and i had a few dollars floating around in my pocket. So what do i spend it on? A '57 Precision ? http://www.gbase.com/gear/fender-precision-bass-1957-see-through-blonde Or a '57 Chevy 2 door post ? http://www.myhotcars.com/1957-Chevrolet-2Door/Used-ClassicCar/Livermore-CA/0/2307490/Details.aspx But will more than likely go with this. 10.
Mind you The Beatles, Led Zep, Jaco, Jamerson etc ain't that current but it doesn't stop people talking about it!
True......... But then again you would have to dig most of them up for them to be on the '"live" scene. Garry
 11.
I loved em. I really liked how they changed and progressed album to album, getting better each time. It's a pisser that they split. I realise it ain't current and they split up time ago, but it still souns fresh.
No not very current, but saying that, Roisin Murphy is still very active on the live club scene, and very well liked - Plenty up there on Youtube. Garry
 12. I thought they were great, they kinda helped move House Music on a bit at that time. Roisin Murphy has quite a few solo tracks out there. Garry
 13.
It's in german but you can still benefit from the transcriptions i made. http://four-strings-...ns.blogspot.de/
Translates nicely in Chrome. Good site by the way. 14.
I don't really get the negative comments about fusion.
I understand negative comments, that's just down to opinions really. But to turn up to a thread to listen to music you hate ? and talk about dogging? Priceless. Garry
 15. If you mean this - Yep it's great. http://soundcloud.com/billyhollywoodlee/eleanor-rigby-billy-lee Garry
 16. It's called comping. Good players know how to comp. Bad keyboard players think it's a freebie ticket for a concert. Garry
 17. Congrats on the new birth. To me it sounds like "The" Band has a few newborns amongst it's ranks. Garry
