1. Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone knew some good alternatives to the Fender Bass VI. I have a pawn shop one (in the profile picture in fact) and while I love the idea of it, the sound is a bit meh and I've had issues, especially with intonation, string choking and general tuning, even after setup. So does anyone know of a GOOD QUALITY equivalent? I don't even record with this thing because I know that some of the notes are just going to be out by the end of the track.
2. I don't think the point is to make a Dingwall Thunderbird copy though, just a Thunderbird shaped Dingwall, so I'm not surprised it doesn't sound like a T-Bird.
3.
Does this happen a lot?
On nude wednesdays.
4. I do love an ebony fingerboard, and no markers.
5. I don't like basses with another mans penis on them. I think if another mans penis is touching my bass, it makes me less inclined to play it.
6. I'll be going again next year, and saving up so I can spend my money on stuff I clearly don't need, just really really want.
7.
It's better than standing stock-still and staring at your fretoard, I suppose.
Yeah... Bass Players.... We're a conservative bunch.... None of that moving lark... What's that note? That wasn't a root or a fifth... That's the devils work! Oh, and I won't play anything that looks like it was designed after 1975! If the (Precision/Jazz/Thunderbird/Stingray/Rickenbacker) was good enough for (insert someone good here) it's good enough for me
8. Of course this guy is the all time winner Phew... fixed
9. A guy who acts like that has the stones not to care.
10. Bloody hell, poor guy is just trying to put on a show, you bunch of....... bass players. Although fair, he does look a bit like a dangleberry at times.
11.
I am very much an impulse buyer. I would have bought a Chowny bass if I could have taken one away on the day, but I have to wait 6 weeks for a left handed. I should have had a try on one, but I am always too nervous to try anything. The only person who has seen me play is my bass teacher.
Nobody there will judge your playing. In fact if anyone DOES, then they're a proper prick. Next time have a try and don't worry about it. People who turn up to these things to show off are dongs. Next time grab one of us and we'll back you up, mafia bodyguard-style. As it happens they're a lot of fun to play and sound great, especially when you look at the price tag.
12.
I'm going to see how many times I can plausibly insert this into a conversation in one day.
It's quite pleasing isn't it.
13. Isn't that going to make the D really dull and the A really ping? So emphasising the 5th rather than the root? Bonkers as bum.
14. I had a go of a couple of Dingwalls while there including the D-Bird. Lovely bass but it's not a Thunderbird clone, it's a Thunderbird shaped dingwall. If you want a Thunderbird clone get a Mike Lull (although some people still say that's not a proper one either) On a side note it surprised me how quickly I got used to the fanned frets. Well, except for the F on the E string, that still threw me a bit. But I can now see a Dinger in my future. Maybe next year at the 2017 show.
15.
It was great to see some bass chatters (both the lanyard wearing ones, and those that were incognito). It was amazing the positive feedback we received from pretty much everybody. Even those that thought it wasn't "their thing" still had nice things to say.
I was one of the "incognito" ones even though I didn't say I was from basschat. I was really impressed with them as was my mate.
16. Managed to get in yesterday morning. Managed to talk to only a few people. I'll be there next year for a longer stint though. One thing I can say though is I'm the reason that fretless Enfield has a "sold" sticker on it. I can't do a NBD post yet as it's not in my hands and they need to change the pickguard. Did anyone else have a go on that stainless steel fingerboard fretless (Le Fay) It was gorgeous and surprisingly felt and sounded great.
17. I can sort of see the point of the April one, but the December one is a full 6 months after. WTF?
18. I'm actually properly 4-year-old-before-christmas excited about this. Probably because I'm going with a budget for buying fun stuff.
19. Looks pretty bloody stunning. I'm actually going for a fretless but this might even swing me.
20. And this is the sound that's missing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySZDm0EAuiw
21. Gibson should absolutely do what a lot of other manufacturers have done and do classic reissues. I'd be one of the first in the queue for a reissue of a 64 thunderbird.
22.
How did I know he was going to start slapping !
I think there's legal documentation you have to sign when you buy a Kingbass.
