Totally concur. I've never got the point of the gain knob which darkglass seem to have dropped on the 500W version. I've never used the cab sims but hey they don't get in the way. Currently my fave amp.

I'm happy to give my time to charities. I do about 6 hours per week volunteering for samaritans. I give 10% of any freelance money i earn to charities too. I think about where I'd like to donate to help where i think it's needed most. Happy to do charity gigs but it's only right that the organisers don't expect us to be out of pocket. I like to choose where i donate my money. Also there's always an inequality of income amongst band members. It's not fair on those who really need the expenses to have to be the only one that has to stand up and say "I can't afford to do this". If everyone gets expenses those that wish to can quietly donate them back to the charity concerned.

Yes, i guess they're a weekend pub band. If they're enjoying themselves and get booked all is well. It's got to be fun for the band. I know I'll never be a great bass player, i turn up rehearsed and on time but i really do it cos i like having a laugh with my band mates. If your friend gets that much from his band he's doing ok. If the band recognise they're not so good so much the better, they'll work on it. If they don't recognise they're not so good there's no point in telling them.

When this sort of thing has happened in bands I've been in it's been my first reaction to have to know what's going on, it's the biggest thing on my mind. But in hind sight people have come and gone bands have come and gone, but I'm still playing and life has carried on. Occasionally that magic combination of people has disappeared, which is a shame but usually things turn out ok. I hope they do for you. All the best

No I haven't ever used my Ashdown octaver. The chorus isn't easy to control either. It's easy to play with all the other nice sound options when I'm home, but when I'm at a band prac, and can actually hear how they sound in a live context a 3 or 4 band EQ is all I can really have time to fiddle with, and maybe a bit of gain. I'm not saying all those options are bad, I don't think they are, I'm just not clever enough to cope with them all.

I had to take mine apart to replace one of the flimsy little switches. Blackstar were really on the ball providing spares and the amp was really nicely made inside. I didn't keep it, not because it was bad, there was just too much scope for fiddling with the sound, I am such a fiddler!

Yes that is a great pity, BUT I've got lots of amps but this is the one I gravitate to because it can do so many things quite well: It's loud enough I like the compressor and distortion options and the valve emulation. I love the bluetooth so can stream band recordings from my phone and play along. Now I've trained myself not to keep fiddling with the effects its great. Thomann don't seem to be selling them any more so the price is climbing up.

Active ones are great, but I feel much more comfortable giging with a passive or an active with a passive bypass. Been caught out a few times, in the heat of the moment you blame everything else apart from the battery. Yes I know I should check it more often!

Yep being a nerd i did actually work this out at 0.2pico grammes.

I've found the easiest thing is to just weigh the bass from time to time. As the battery charge gets used up it gets lighter. Only a fraction of a gramme but kitchen scales are good enough.

There's 2 great things you get on an acoustic guitar with a pickup that you never see on bass guitars: A battery level indication and tuner. Why are these guys things on acoustic guitars but not on basses?

It's usually worked for me except on my stingray special, I think there's some extra jiggery pokery in there.
