1. I've seen a few of these floating around - mostly retailers putting them in the window for a bit of p'zazz. Or pfooey...
2. Stick with it. There's freakin' hundreds of musos out there and a bit of flexibility goes a long way. FWIW, last year a local hero guitarist got me, keys, drums and a vocalist for his 'project'. Sounded fantastic. Then, out of the blue, he fired us all simultaneously by email. So we got a new guitarist and now we're a band and matey boy's still looking.
3. I missed this one earlier in the week: The BBC has apologised after Bono called Chris Martin a "w****er" live on Radio 1. The U2 frontman had just played the Live Lounge with his band and was speaking with Jo Whiley when he reportedly made the comment about the Coldplay singer. A BBC spokeswoman apologised for any offence the remark may have caused to listeners. "An on-air apology was made immediately for the language used," she said, adding that she was not aware of any viewer complaints lodged following the interview.

Hi

Hi - and a big welcome to the tuned-down mandolin too. Just tell people you play an 8 string and they'll be mighty impressed...
5. Hi - tutors always welcome round here
6. Whatever you think of the Beautiful South, kudos to anyone who can cop Heaton's singing.
7. As these are terms used in a subjective way (ie what sounds 'dark' to me might sound 'wooly' to someone else), here's my entirely personal take: Woolly - sounds like a blanket's been thrown over the cab - not much brightness or attack. Low notes sound sort of like 'woof' rather than 'dooom' Dark - Not much brightness or attack. Otherwise normal Bright - top strings have a bit of a zing sound to them. Clicky sort of attack to the note. Lots of string squeak as you move your left hand around Cold - Lower notes seem quieter, plenty of middle. Warm - Lots of bottom, bit of top, less in the middle I'd also like to add 'Planky', where it's all middle with minimal sustain. Sound of a P with dead strings through a clapped out Trace
8.
You do know that that story is actually false and is a joke based on the Make Poverty History advert where stars are seen clicking their fingers.
Yes, I did. It's a joke. Kind of like: Q: Why did Bono fall off the stage? A: He was too close to The Edge. BTW, did someone mention The Ramones? Tread gently...
9. Bono: "Everytime I clap my hands, a child dies in Africa" Audience member: "So stop clapping your f *ckin' hands".
10.
No, I do appreciate all of that. But does that not mean, then, that no band can be over or under rated - except in someone else's opinion?
That's right. One would be expressing the opinion that a band could be more or less highly rated than one believes they should be. In some peoples opinion, I'm under-rated as a nit-picking pedant. Personally, I think I'm on an upward curve IMO.
11.
Amen to that!! It just seems to be that if a band or artiste of questionable quality and/or talent (and it's a given that it IS all subjective) sells shedloads of product, that would tend to suggest to me that there is at least a possibility that they could be considered to be "over rated." On the other hand, is it not the case that there are countless bands or artistes of glaringly obvious quality and/or talent who sell little or nothing or may even be unsigned and would it not be reasonable to consider them to be "under rated"? Or am I missing something?
Absolutely no offence intended but yes, you are. * Band is 'over-rated' = Opinion * Band is 'under-rated' = Opinion * 'Bad' = Opinion * 'Good' = Opinion * Measurable number of people think band is 'good' = fact * Large number of people think band is 'good' = fact * Band is successful because large number of people think they're good and buy their product = Fact * Succesful band considered to be over-rated by measurable number of people = Fact * Band is over-rated because it's 'bad' = Opinion * Band is 'bad' = Opinion * Opinion is fact = Opinion * Opinion is not fact = Fact
12. I scorn this convention, so recurrent on these and other pages, that the more units a band sells, the (less talented / more overrated / more worthy of disparagement) they are. This is patently nonsense. There are bands you may like (or not). And there are popular bands (or not). If the two situations coincide, lovely for you. But if they don't, I can't consider it to be of any serious significance. NOI. I also reject, with a careless laugh, the absurd proposition that anything popular must have been hyped by a illuminati-like group of sinister marketing fiends. I've been in the belly of the marketing beast, and believe me, it's more cock-up than conspiracy These jejune arguments crop up again and again and again and again and again and again. Someone dislikes a band / style / genre / amp / instrument / individual / company and deploys transparently false logic to buttress their entirely subjective personal opinion. If you don't like U2, fine. I don't much, either. That's all there is. No facts, no theories, no conspiracy, no nothing. Just opinions.
13. try allparts, wdmusic or, in the states, stewmac
14. While I'm in two minds about both U2 (sometimes great, sometimes dull) and Bono (good causes, but he does go on), I would like to offer the following observation: I saw them at Earl's Court a few years ago and the audience had the highest proportion of fit women I've ever seen at a rock gig. And the overall M:F ratio was about 50:50. So they're doing something right.
15.
I just messaged him and he tried to sell me his sister, said something about love me long time,no honey no funny!
Me too. I await his response with...er...interest.
16. Def something like Nitromors on the back - you can see where it's run...and his ad says "We don't sell fake fender".
17.
Yes, like night and day, totally worth it. Since you posted the same question in two forums it seems you want to go with whichever gives you the answer you like best. The least I could do is give you two answers to choose from.
If you check some of the other responses, Bill, you'll see the sort of assistance he was looking for.
18. Their prices and service must be exceptional to prompt someone to join a forum to tell us all about it. And here's the other post: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=42558&hl= Very thoughtful, thank you.
19. Broadcasting a disparaging view on either picks or fingers is that tell-tale, giveaway sign of being a know-nothing numpty, straight off the boat. I've just got into the weird situation of a pick feeling sort of 'wrong' for me after 35 years playing. Mind you, minute we up the speed, out comes the pick.
20.
I stopped paying attention to anything to do with the enemy, I mean NME, when I stopped being a teenager.
Me too. That was in 1978. After a while you realise the NME's always going to be a bunch of self-important, no-hoper style plagiarists w*nking themselves into a frenzy over a band they'll be savaging 6 months later. The music press is a swaybacked harlot with a propensity for licking toilet floors. And that's the good side of it....
21. I'm rather disappointed. I expected skin and hair to be flying by now and yet..... ...radio silence
22. In the old days, some in the gay community would indicate their preferences by sporting different coloured hankies in their back pocket. Silks fulfil the same function among bass players - e.g. : 3 Yellow + 1 Blue = GAS-ing for a fretless Red and Yellow = Will play country for cash All Red on a 4 string = 5-curious
23. Why not try the Hartke LH500 - it's part of that whole new Hartke range alongside the hydrive cab you've bought and is presumably designed to interact as a combination. Additionally, they've got rave reviews on here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26831&hl=lh500 OK, they're not light, but they are rack-mountable, and the sound is described by other bc-ers as warm and full. What's more, they're cheap as chips - circa £240-300 online and around. Amazed the shop didn't try to sell you one...
