1. As well as mic-ing, you maybe need a DI box with an XLR out that taps the amp's output after the power stage but before it gets to the speaker - like this Hughes and Kettner red box - fairly cheap at £60-odd quid (Link to manual - PDF - first 8 pages in german, English starts p9) http://87.106.71.220/files/huke/proclass/r...Box_BDA_1_0.pdf
2. If it's an actual 70's Jazz bass you want, then that's what you should buy. You're after a 70's Jazz not a modern copy. It will probably hold it's value better than a copy, and be much easier to sell on the open market, if you really need to. Compared to other old basses, they're not that uncommon or really ludicrously expensive - go on, you know you want to!
3.
max £350, small hands and a nice slap tone
Secondhand Jap Jazz, or New Squier Classic Vibe Jazz or a pimped pre-loved MIM Jazz...
4. Oooh! Oooh! It's got the transition logo! Wub Wub Wub
5. Maybe the £200 incs the gator case.
6. Usually friendly, quick and helpful. Occasional waits while items are ordered in from the States. One time they sent me the wrong size truss rod spanner. Phoned 'em - they apologised and put the correct one in the post straight away, telling me not to bother to send the other one back and saying: "You never know, it might come in useful". Which seemed fair.
7. Saw a mate recently for the first time in a while. He mentioned that one of his friends down the pub is a bloke called Bruce who used play bass with Costello. My mate couldn't understand why I came over all unnecessary like. BT definitely one of the criminally overlooked British bass players.
8.
It's back: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160339992079 Apparently the dodgy neck is "upgraded"! He's also put the price up by £5
Sigh. Gets coat, trudges from room.
9.
Aside from the headstock saying precision lol
Could be the old triple switcheroonie - P on Dirnt, T on Jazz, Jazz on P. Happens more often than you'd think - retailer gets bored on a wet Wednesday in Morecambe and decides to change all the necks around for a laugh.
10. This is so weird. I remember the colossal thrill when I first re-strung from flats to wounds. The tinkling highs, the piano like-lows, the stalking phone-calls from Farrah Fawcett Majors (it was the late 70's). The wheel turns, the stars look down.
11. So I saw this Dirnt on the bay - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=160339500438 - and the headstock's wrong. Someone's switched the neck Mailed the seller a heads-up. At first he thought I was mistaken - per his first reply on the bay. Told him again, so he pulls the item and mails me this:
Ive checked around and your spot on, the head stock is not a tele type at all. The bass was manufactured in 2008 and came from a music shop in Morecambe who I am going to speak to ASAP
Credit where it's due - fair play to him.
12. I can understand why some might feel the need for caution as Javier is new here. But I agree that certain enquiries might best be handled via PM, as the content of open posts could be misinterpreted out of context (as may have happened here, however politely expressed) and might shade the sale. FWIW, it should be noted that Javier has a 100% positive ebay score with 234 transactions. He's also offered it to us here at 195 euro less than the ebay BIN price, which seems very fair. Should one have reservations, the solution is straightforward - buy via ebay and use paypal. Now that's done, will someone kindly lend me two and a half notes so I can buy this Rick?
13. Hi Nostromo - and welcome Sounds like you've got yourself a nice rig there - may your licks be ever bountiful. As regards the Hofner question, may be worth your while searching 'hofner' (and / or re-posting your query) down in the 'basses' sub-forum. Also check out the 1968 Hofner in the 'Basses for sale' section - it'll give you an idea of how silly things can get round here. Enjoy
14. I love that matching headstock. Want. Now.
15. FWIW, I don't much like the look of the Fly guitar. Yet I really like the look of that bass. And I'm a stodgy old Fenderhead. Weird.
16.
Cheers, hope that answers your question, sort of? :0)
Thanks - yes, it does.
17. All this sounds good, Ped. It seems that many problems seem to stem from non-observance of 'The Guidelines'. I'm thinking specifically about vendettas against mods, failure to 'agree to disagree'. Will the guidelines be amended and / or strengthened, maybe by an appropriate reference in the T&C's?
18.
Also, whats latching?
Indeedy. What this latching thing? One of these? My collection of interesting antique and modern latches runs into the thousands. I'm trying to get a BassChat 'Latches' sub-forum started with regular 'Latch-bash' swap-meets. Welcome to the Forum
19. Glad you enjoyed your squier so much. Although I'm highly unlikely to venture onto the highwire that is 'Fretless', I'd def start with one like yours. If I did, I might add a pickguard though, just to manage peoples' expectations.
20. Bridge and pick-up covers look a bit shiny (might have been removed and stored in the case for 40 years), as do the pot knobs, but could just be a well looked-after example. You'd have to go round and give it a prod to be absolutely sure...
21. OK, here's the deal. We've identified a number of problems with BGM, so now why don't we do something about it. Proposition: BGM identifies where they may feel they have shortcomings in specialist knowledge, reviewer availability, proofing (technical and typos), etc etc. In exchange for ad space and a regular feature sponsor cred, BC co-ordinates the provision of specialist assistance necessary to make good the shortfalls. Contributing BC-ers to get a credit in a "contributor" list on the masthead. In broader terms, BC could also help to co-ordinate a BGM user group, to offer some general steer. Benefits BGM - gets free additional editorial support and editorial intelligence BC - gets free promotion and builds bridges with another media owner BC-ers - get to enhance the publication and see their name in print, while helping BC to promote itself Cost Zero - time only
22.
It's just a shame because I was really looking forward to this gig. Well, specifically I was looking forward to playing with this particular drummer, but I guess that ship has sailed. S.P.
Bummer, that. Maybe you can sort something out with him anyhow...easier to do without the albatross of a crap gig round everyone's necks... May your chops be ever fruitful
23. Sorry to hear it, SP. You'll be doing exactly the right thing by cancelling with plenty of notice. Let your friend have a nice wedding day - that's the most important consideration. And, let's face it, the crowd probably wouldn't fancy 90 mins of solo bass - not even the esteemed Messrs Wooten or Manring
24. Really happy for you Bilbo - fill us in on how it goes, eh?
25. FWIW, Jon Bon Jovi threatened his (increasingly chubby) bass player with the sack unless he had liposuction.
