These tubes are (were, since the Ukrainian war) made in Russia at the EHX facility owned by (the American) Mike Matthews (New Sensor) since 1998 and some brands are simply resurrected names: EH (Gold), Electro-Harmonix, Genalex Gold Lion, Mullard, Sovtek, Svetlana, Tung-Sol. There are the two alternatives to these EHX branded tubes: JJ, formerly Tesla (Slovakia), Western Electric (USA). Then there are these very expensive boutique brands: Elrog (Germany), Emission Labs (Czech Republic), KR Audio (Czech Republic), Sophia Electric (USA or China), Takatsuki (Japan). Then come the Chinese brands made by Shuguang, now more specialised in the very lucrative audiophile market: Golden Dragon, Grant Fidelity, Lenlai, Penta, Primaluna, Psvane (PS Vane), Ruby, Shuguang, Sino, TJ Fullmusic, Valve Art. This is to date all the real brands I know still available today (and I'm deeply sure there are no others), the rest being rebadged Chinese tubes, sorry for those pretending the opposite, even if there are stories about new facilities in China that, when further inquiring, are impossible to locate or suddenly destroyed...

To me it looks like padauk as it turned brown, because of the oxydation when it should be reddish.

How old were you when you did your first gig?
Hellzero replied to odysseus's topic in General Discussion
It was after my studies, at 22 years old, in 1987, and the small audience at the pub was as drunk as we were. The ephemere band was called Loss Ethyloss... It says a lot. I really started something interesting in my 30th and it went on until my mid 40th, playing almost every week. And I decided to stop, because I was totally fed up. Now, I'm 57 years old and record and play for my computer. 😂 -
Ideas on a bass that meets these spec's, ta.

Ben, did you use a foot rest for that classical position? When yes, you have the explanation to your twist in the back. -

Hi Ben, There's this accessory, called the Hopf Dynarette, that will help a lot fighting the weight when playing seated only and also getting that 400+ years proven classical position. Worth give it a go, I bought an Amazon copy the time I found the real deal, but don't make this mistake, the copies are real dire compared to the original Dynarette (which has two heights, the lower working perfectly for me for the classical position playing as I mainly play sixers, so bigger basses). By the way, you have such higher standard basses, that it will be very hard to find your perfect bass... -
It's simply maxed in, and an easy trick is to simply put some flat washers under the bullet with some graphite grease to get it work as it should. It's something that happens very often with old Fender necks.

Hi Ben, doesn't your Leduc MP 524 tick all the boxes, except the weight... ? -
LocTite ThreadLocker is the correct name and will solve your issue by "blocking" the thread of the screw, no need to replace the bridge at all. I'll recommend the #294, also called Green ThreadLocker, because it's the less powerful one.

Keep it this time, Russ. We both made huge mistakes when selling some basses...

Something like that, real Lane Poor pickups (1998) with "neck" pickup at the "sweet spot", Aguilar OBP-2 with active/passive switch and passive tone... A really rare true versatile masterpiece.

Don't forget Le Fay...

Indeed, because you can spend a fortune on a Wal, Alembic, Ritter or Fodera. Vigier or Leduc are excellent different choices for a 24 frets bass. And there's still the other luthiers option.

Why can't we say that something is deep dire when it really is? Where is the problem? Mediocrity is and will always be mediocrity. Wokism is pure bullshìt, it's like saying I'm not what I'm not because I am what I am while being what I'm not when I am. Take a decision: it helps going ahead instead of turning in circles.

Basslab Standard VI - my wish to track it down

You can join the original French seller here on Zikinf, his name is Julien, but you'll have to be registered: https://www.zikinf.com/compte/messages/compose?u=155209 He will answer faster as he's quite active there. -
Funny, but it looks like an Ikea cutting board... No offence intended as I always wanted to make a Bo Diddley tribute bass using one...

This ∆∆∆ , plus adding some polystyrene panels "around" the case and adding an A4 sheet with the sender and recipient adresses with phone numbers inside the case clearly visible as couriers have the authorisation to open parcels in case they get "lost". Also ask the recipient to video the unpacking process, only for insurance purposes. You can use TNT Express which is very fast, just like UPS, and these two companies will insure the instrument at the value you declared ... and can help you fill all the forms. Avoid anything by the post or brokers as they don't give a shīt about parcels, and don't be a cheapskate unless you want to face a lot of issues... I've sent hundreds of instruments or even amps all over the world without any problems, but two: the first was a parcel stolen (you can't do anything about this) and the second was a parcel dropped from the bagages hold of the plane (shīt happens). Both times, I was fully refunded by the insurance and gave the money back to the buyers.
