2. Has anyone got any experience with one of these? I'm looking for something with a warm natural overdrive, but nothing that'll blow your head off.
3.
Di box on the end of the board for emergencies. Never ever used it once. Needed it the day before I bought it, obviously.
me too, i don't think it's ever left my gig bag since I got it.

6. A bit of a bump for this one, if you fancy coming please purchase tickets in advance so we can notify the venue about numbers etc. Also, we have setup a non-attendee ticket purchase system so you can purchase tickets if you can't go and still be able to donate to the charity. The tickets don't give you entry but allow you to donate, and start at £1, you can purchase as many as you like. https://www.backuptech.uk/ have been amazing to me and my family so please dig deep if you can. The non-entry donation link is here: https://www.ticketgun.com/events/smells-like-the-90s-donations-only Of course, if you can make it, come and say hi and lets talk bass, I'll have all of my gear with me and will be more than happy to geek out about it! Thank you.
7. My old band is putting on a gig at the Manor Ballroom in Ipswich on April 15th (Easter Saturday) to try and raise money and awareness for a charity called Backup who've helped myself and my family in such an amazing way during my ongoing serious illness. We've a strong line up of: Russell Swallow Poppy Scarlett Matt White & DarkSeed (my band) and it'll all be about mostly playing music from the '90s because that's the era of music we love the most. ALL profits are going to the Backup, The Technical Entertainment Charity: https://www.backuptech.uk/ A brief outline of my history and story is on this page: https://www.backuptech.uk/about/ scroll to the bottom and click on the third black dot to read my story. 8. I took up piano about 5 years ago after wanting to for ages. After a little research a found a series called "Afred's" and it's worked brilliantly for me. This is a link to the first book, I think there are three for beginner adults and it takes you from nothing up to a reasonable standard, but by the time I'd finsihed the third book I was finding my own music to play and started doing grades too (i'm just about to do grade 5). I also recommended it to my mum, in her 70's and she's getting along well with the series too. Good luck & enjoy! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfreds-Basic-Adult-Piano-Course/dp/0882846167
9. Sold a book to Andy, very easy. Pleasure to do business with.
10. Pandora PitchBlack PB3 MarkBass MB Octaver Boss ODB-3 Bass Overdrive Electro Harmonix Bass Soul Food MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Boss CEB-3 Bass Chorus Boss BF-3 Flanger & T.C. Electronics RC4 foot remote for RH750 Head The pandora is brilliant, love it. Nice and bright and very precise. The things I love about this whole setup is the tracking on the MarkBass octave, perfect for what I need, I never use the 2nd octave down though. The Boss overdrive does exactly what you expect it to and I love the EHX bass soul food for a grind. The only criticism of the soul food is that it does cut a bit of the low end when used, which I tend to dial back in with EQ on my bass. The MRX envelope filter is ideal for me, I'm still playing with it but it gives some great, high quality sounds and I'm still deciding which one I want to keep as my standard go-to sound. And of course the Boss chorus & flanger do exactly as they say on the tin. I bought the TC RC4 foot remote purely because I spent so much on the RH750 head I thought I may as well go the whole hog and get it! It is handy to see mid-song if you're out of tune though... I do have different EQs set up on the 3 preset, but they're actually used for the compressor on and off (same EQ) and one for the internal tubetone on at approx 50%, which is OK, but not my go-to fuzz / overdrive sound. It's all powered by the small Diago pedal power supply. I did buy the bigger one second hand on line but when It turned up it was damaged (bare cable) which I've since repaired, but I wasn't amused and I've not been able to return it and get a refund. That's what you get when you take your chances on gumtree rather than basschat. The smaller power supply powers everything but the bigger one is sitting there as a spare just in case something silly happens and I can swap to that in seconds, it does work, it's just not very pretty. I've taped the RC4 cable in with the mains as a loom back to the head, splitting up a metre or so before it gets there, I've checked it thoroughly and there' s no buzz (of course now I've typed that, it'll start) and the normal bass signal cables are lose going in and out of the pedal chain. I can't remember where i got the link jack cables from, it was a while ago but their quality is superb and I'm really impressed by them. It all sits on a Diago showman pedal board and it seems to do the job for now....
11. It looks like there's a Go Fund Me page to help with Marc Van Wageningen's medical bills: https://www.gofundme.com/tower-of-power-members
12. All I've seen is that they're "recovering in hospital", no news on how serious they may be etc.
13.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik - Red Hot Chili Peppers
+1 for me too.
14. DId anyone else see this:? http://edition.cnn.com/2017/01/13/entertainment/tower-of-power-band-hit-by-train-trnd/ "In an unfortunate accident...drummer David Garibaldi and current bassist Marc van Wageningen, were struck by a train in California,"
15.
No, but I bought myself an MXR Bass Envelope Filter for my 50th this year...
I bought myself one for Christmas!!
16. Reef were originally called Naked, and have a song & single on their first album called Naked. Tenuous, not sure if it counts...
17. Looks like it sold for £6,260. That's out of my price range for a bass!
18.
You need a copy of 'Standing in the Shadows of Motown'.
Beat me to it! Fantastic book, however it is entirely in standard notation.
19. I just saw this pop-up on my feed on facebook from The Great British Bass Lounge, is it a dig?! "Someone has just missed out on the historically important STATUS STRATA bass. No disrespect but you if you dither you miss out (ya looze if ya snooze as the grand kids say). That individual is very disappointed and i'm disappointed for him too. Yes, it was on the website for a while (and at a low price) but remember sods law...its like busses...they (buyers) all come along at once so, if you're after something, stop dithering and 'pull the trigger' to quote that oft used bit of jargon they seem to use on Basschat!!!!!" I hadn't realised we had a reputation for saying particular things!
20. The bidding seems to be hotting up on the auction though, up to £5,500!!!
21. There's no denying that Mark King is a very generous man, having held several auctions in the past and other notable charitable actions and contributions too. (Nice chap to boot too!).
