1. That's pretty much 3 people against the idea for the shed as a permanent home, 'nuff for me! Thanks.
2.
I kept some old Trace speakers in my shed for a while. The cones got some damp and white spots started appearing , spiders found their way in through the ports and nested inside etc. etc. I wouldn't do it again
Ok, that's enough for me. I'll use this personal advice as evidence to the wife that they need to stay indoors!
3.
'Rodent free'? Hmmm... I've known mice to make nests inside speaker cabs, and guess where they get the paper from!
We've had quite a problem with mice in the house and in the other shed, but for some reason there's never been any sighting or evidence in this particular shed! (famous last words).
4. Hello all. As my baby daughter will be very shortly moving from our room into the spare room, I'll be shifting a lot of stuff out of there which includes finding new home for my speaker cabs, which will more than likely end up in the shed. I've got a TC Electronics RS210 cab and a RS212 cab, both with the posh TC covers too. Should I be concerened that they'll be in there all year round with all manner of temperature and humidity variations? The shed itself is quite posh, clean, insect & rodent free and has pretty good walls (for a shed), the previous owner used it as an office but essentially it is still a shed in the garden. Am I being overly worried or is there genuine cause for concern? I've actually had an Ashdown 4x10" Bentley cab out there for a couple of years but I've literally not used it in all that time so i've no idea if it's been effected by it! Thanks all,
5. Liam bought a book from me and it was a quick and easy transaction. Cheers
6. I was first made aware of him when bassist magazine published a transcription of stomp over a couple of issues, ages ago. I spent years trying to nail the slap solo and kept an eye and ear out for anything he played on afterwards as a result. Great player. Sad news
7. I've got "you can call me Al" from Bassist magazine from many years ago if you need it?
8. I sold a few books to Steve and it was very easy, quick and no hassle. Prompt payment and a pleasure to do business with.
9.
Very appropriate.
Ha ha! That kind of word association could start a whole new thread on it's own!
10. Usually I'll play the same couple of things each time so I know how they sound / feel on other basses: 101 Shuffle - Dave Weckl Stu Hamm's solo thing that he's showcased over the years Hard To Concentrate - Chili Peppers & if I want to give slapping a go (which I try to keep few and far between in a shop) I'll play Run For Cover - David Sanborn
11. Steve bought a couple of books from me, paid straight away and was a pleasure to deal with.
12. If this thread is about "your" (my) stones then I guess for me it's touring with them in 2007 on the bigger bang tour. Obviously production-wise it was immense but I was never really a huge Stones fan however I couldn't help get a chill down my spine when the more popular tracks (jumpin' jack flash, brown sugar, sympathy etc) were rolled out and the tens of thousands of happy punters were bouncing around and clearly having the time of their lives. On the first night of the tour I was chatting during the show with my crew chief who'd been touring with them for easily 15 years before then described them as "one of the most average Rolling Stones cover bands you'll see play live". I think that was a tad harsh on them but he's quite cynical having been on the road for almost 30 years now! The stadium concerts seemed to lack any intamacy (obviously) but the tour ended with three nights at the (then newly opened) O2 arena which really ramped up the atmosphere and show. (as an aside, I put a close friend of mine on the guest list for one of the O2 shows as she is a big fan. We subsequently hooked up and now we've been married five years and have two children together so I guess I've got Mick to thank for that!). In my opinion I don't think they're the tightest, most proficient or technically amazing band but they're in their 70's and can put on a bloody good show when they put their minds to it. One amusing story that my crew chief told me about earlier in that tour is that during one load-in someone from production walked around and handed envelopes with a nice cash present inside to the touring crew from a certain key member of the band. When the other main key member of the band heard about it another round of envelopes with a nicer present inside becuase he wanted to out-do him!
13. Last week I did two music exams and although I actually do love doing exam after exam I do get a bit bored of playing the same few songs & tracks on the run-up to the big day. I had a piano exam on the friday and then the bass exam on the saturday so that's actually 6 songs I'll purpously avoid for the forseeable future. I feel liberated, like I can play other stuff, concentrate on rudiments, trasnscribing, reading and learning new stuff without thinking that the exam pieces are getting bitter because I'm not giving them enough attention! Now that I've done the RGT, Trinity Rock & Pop and the Rock School exams I imagine I'll be struggling to find another exam to do on bass anyway. I think it's a bit over the top to re-do the same exam for the same examing board just because a new syllabus has come out - well, I say that now anyway..
14. Due to every decreasing available space in the family home I'm selling the following books. They're all bass score & tab unless otherwise stated. The full transcribed scores have the music for all of the instruments on all of the tracks. The price includes postage and they're all in immaculate condition unless stated. - Alanis Morissette – Jagged Little Pill - this is surprisingly very rare due to it apparently being commercially unavailable in Europe £10 - Jaco Pastorius – The Greatest Jazz-Fusion Bass Player £9 - Pantera – Bass Anthology Series £9 - Red Hot Chili Peppers – Stadium Arcadium £9 I have a PayPal account and please see my feedback for other people's opinions of me (it's mostly nice things!).
15. I'm gutted that I now can't go. I've ended up with some work in sunny Dubai over that period so I can't even skive off and pop in for a bit. It's a shame as I was going through a thought process of selling my GT-10B in favour of individual pedals (having made the swap the other way a few years ago) and I was interested to see if anything that is of the normal radar would catch my eye. It's probably best for my wallet that I can't make it though! It's also a real shame as I was excited about seeing Billy, oh well. Stu Hamm is great to see too so that was up at the top of my to-do list. Enjoy if you do go.
16. I MAY be able to make it on the Saturday, fingers crossed (unless some last minute work comes in). I'm on baby sitting & toddler wrangling duties on the Sunday as the wife is out for lunch with "the girlies", whoever they may be,,,
17.
Haven't listened to them since the days of Sounding A Mosaic, which was a great album:
I was just about to post this song and then I thought I'd better check previous posts. Cracking song.
18. They're amazing. They supported the ordinary boys when I toured with them about ten year ago. VERY good live and a lovely bunch of chaps too. Ihad few beers with them over the course of the tour. They (were at the time) very humble and friendly and had done 77 almost back to back gigs before that tour has even started! Some of my friends came to see the gig as I got them on the guest list and a few came away saying they preferred Bedouin to the ordinary boys! I bought the album they were plugging at the time. New Year's Day and a couple of other tracks on the cd were outstanding. (No idea about the names of he songs, that's what you get for listening in your car...)
19. It looks like there's already a lot of interest in this. They're gone, save the formalities, I'll remove the ad once it's been dispatched.
