Strings. Whats on your main gigging bass and why
LewisK1975 replied to bassjim's topic in General Discussion
Dunlop SuperBright Nickels 45-105 for me. Was looking for a low tension set and various threads and indeed the Dunlop web page were particularly keen to point out that they were surprisingly low tension. Got a set and have been very impressed for over a year with them now. I gig every weekend (always 1, sometimes 2 or 3 gigs) and they last at least 3 months for me. I do always wipe down after a gig though, so YMMV! Can be had for sub £20 on ebay too. Lovely. -
Surely this is an April Fool - just 10 days too late

I guess Ryan Martinie wasn't available? He filled in when Fieldy took time out a few years ago when his mrs had a baby. Or if he was available, he must be pretty annoyed to have a 12yr old asked instead of him. -
Thanks Kev for another easy deal. Proper BC services meet. Pleasure to meet you again! Hope the Bass serves you well...
I'm not sure what strings Sandberg put on their basses but playability is very good and I'm loving the P tone. Nice neck too, quite shallow.
I like the ones that came on my VM5 too, when I asked Mark Stickley he reckoned that they are GHS Boomers. I did note at the time that you can also buy branded strings on the sandberg website. Here you go, in german though. https://www.cottoncontrol.com/browse/sandberg/de,0,308,0,0.html

Especially when paired up with a VBA400, had the opportunity to play through a few of those on shared bills back in the day. Wonderful. Glad I didn't have to shift it though.

As far as I know frequency specs are based on the sound of the cabinet as a whole unit, not just the driver itself, but I could be wrong. 2khz is not low for a single 15 cab without tweeter IMHO. Take a Barefaced super compact for instance, single 12, no tweeter, quoted cutoff frequency of 4khz.
As Pete suggested, digital desks bring a very useful toolkit with them... if you take the time to learn them. I'd suggest doing it bit by bit... for the EQ section alone. Having a 31 band EQ - especially if it has a Real Time Analyser (so it will show you the frequencies that are feeding back) is the biggest tool in preventing feedback (obviously second after mic and monitor placement). Defo stick with it - but don't try and do it all in one outing. Get to really know the desk first... then you'll get to the point where you'll wonder how we ever did without them. (If you nail it, that is!)
This is sage advice from a man who's been there and done it. I personally love the X18 now, but I have to admit it was all a bit daunting at first and I wanted to go back to our old analogue mixer. But, we persevered and it paid off in the end. I especially like the ability to save whole mixer setups as 'scenes'. If you play the same venues a few times throughout the year, you can save the setup for that venue as a scene and call it 'dog and duck' for example, then a different scene called 'red lion' etc etc. Then recall the setup the next time you go there. Even if it's not perfect the next time, it'll be a good starting point..

Found out my new bass was made in 2012 !
LewisK1975 replied to solomoto's topic in General Discussion
I raised an eyebrow yesterday, when trying a Fender in a shop. The guy told me he'd only had it in on Thursday and that I was the first to ask to try it out. Checked the serial and it was a 2015. I guess from the above it's not uncommon. Based on how he said it though, I was expecting it to have at least a 2016 serial. Could be that it's been round a couple of the different stores that this particular chain have in the country... -
Guitar Guitar Glasgow - New Bass Department is Great!
LewisK1975 replied to Crawford13's topic in General Discussion
Serious GAS for something in particular at the moment - I need to stay away from guitar guitar. Glasgow or otherwise! -
I always thought that "Waiting for an alibi" is a flanger & "Dancing in the moonlight" is a phaser.
Based on the responses I reckon you could get with using either effect on either song!

What amp heads can I use with just headphones?
LewisK1975 replied to sellisnba's topic in Amps and Cabs
+1 for the TC BH250, cracking little amp. Toneprints are excellent, although I really only use the (excellent) spectracomp. -
Been on IEM's for some time now. At the moment, I use my TC BH250 as a DI (spectracomp is brilliant) into the Behringer X18, JBL tops, mackie subs, and I use the Ultimate ears UE900s IEM's (as recommended by Russ). Takes a bit of getting used to, and only works really well if everyone is using them.

Thanks for all the replies guys, all very helpful! Marc, for me it would have to be the RW P neck, although I would really like it if it was a little narrower, like 1.65" instead of 1.75". IIRC your RW P has a slimmed down neck?....

I've always thought Thin Lizzy's 'Waiting for an alibi' gives a great representation of a phased Bass sound. Nice and high in the mix too.
This does seem like the best solution..Time to get mocking up I think!
So I'd end up with something like this:
A P bass with Jazz pickups, with a suitably-placed thumb-rest?
This does seem like the best solution..Time to get mocking up I think!
