I saw Soft Cell when they reformed for the first time. Mark Almond can definitely hold a tune, and it was one of the best gigs I've been to, and I'm a fan of the heavy metal in most of its various guises.
So no, I don't get your drift 😜
IIRC the term 'heavy metal' was first used to describe The Kinks.
In my day metal was long hair and tight trousers, then it became short hair and baggy trousers.
Things change.
I'm tempted to post some The Damned.
Controversial maybe, as they were one of the original punk bands, but since reforming (for the first time) in 1978, they've definitely covered the post-punk and alt-rock genres.
I had the opportunity to do a season when I was younger. Regret not doing it.
Top tip, telling resort bar staff you are a seasonaire can often get you discounted drinks
This look interesting, and I like the built in tuner:

many years ago, having played to what we thought was an apathetic crowd, one of the punters told us "you were great, you didn't get bottled or nuffink!". Another punter bought the band a round.
True story.
