1. Hey David, thanks for telling us about the interesting journey you're on. As we all know, it's the journey that matters, not the destination. In my 50 years of bass playing, I've never laid a finger on anything bigger than a 35" scale bass guitar, and always fretted - maybe I should get out more too.
2. How exciting! This sort of imaginative project really appeals to me.
3. That is BEE-OOO-TI-FUL! Yet another occasion when I'm regretting being tied in to shorties...
4. A common mistake EMG - especially on this thread for some reason. Everyone knows that an ideal world would be Fender 34" ONLY and all forms of deviation from the norm would be eliminated
5. Kevvo, I've become a short-scale specialist for similar reasons and the switch has basically allowed me to keep gigging. Although I love all 3 of my current short-scale basses (see below), they are very different from the standard-scale 'norm' - and from each other. The most 'standard-looking/feeling/sounding' one is definitely the Fender Rascal (provided its 9.5lb weight isn't an issue for you). They're still available new at around £600 - a used example would be a great buy but there aren't many out there. Others worth considering would be the Fender Modern Player short-scale Jazz (no longer in the Fender range and pretty rare second-hand) and a short-scale Jaguar (still current I believe). 6. Great job - ten out of ten for ingenuity!
7.
Thanks a lot. I went and posted a build thread
I've already seen it thanks - well done.
8.
If you're talking to me; thanks very much! If you're talking to somebody else in this thread, then I agree with you Lots of lovely basses.
Yes I was talking about your bass - nice job!
9. I absolutely love the look of your bass!
10. Sorry pfretrock, only just seen your post - width at the nut is 41.5mm and 55mm at f12. Fret-board radius is 9.5".
11. Hey Scott, I saw the demo vid you did of your DC with Di Marzio Model 1 neck pick-up / EMG BTC control mods - very nice!! I'll probably do the same when I get round to it. These are really nice basses, although a mint example hung around on this forum for ages at £450 before selling recently.
12. So far, the best bass I've found for offering the short-scale benefits without any of the perceived look/sound/feel disadvantages is my Fender Rascal. The icing on the cake is unusual styling and pup/switching configuration - I really like both. "]http:// Just a bit heavy for me though at 9 1/2lbs. Looking forward to getting the SWB-1 I've ordered from Scott in the New Year
13. That's really nice mate - hope it goes (or has gone, even).
14.
Speaking of G&L, my revelation of the year was dropping an MFD into a Squier Matt Freeman, a sort of poor man's L1000. It easily holds it's own against my other (much more expensive) basses
Now that's my idea of what the perfect bass should look like and if I was 'normal' that's exactly what I'd be playing.
15. "Judging from what I've seen here on Basschat, this would be the bastard lovechild of a Maruszczyk and a Limelight, retro-fitted with an ACG preamp." If a was a 'normal' standard-scale player, I'd agree but being of the 'shorty' persuasion for me the perfect bass of 2015 is the Fender Rascal I got in July (pictured below with its room-mates). "]http:// Hopefully, my perfect bass of 2016 will be the SWB-1 I've got on order from Scott Whitley!!
16. The other nice thing about this topic is that I've got a few handy pics to show the Mrs. next time she complains that my 4-bass collection is excessive
17. Nice - is the rack on castors or some kind of sliders/rails?
18. Great stuff Will - the new owner's got a nice bass!!!
19. The TC Electronic stuff seems pretty good by all accounts. Speaking of heavy old lumps, my first TE 300 replaced a TE AH500 (2 x 250W amps with stereo capability). That was a MONSTER with cool UV lighting, and I never thought I'd ever sell it!! Only got the 300 as cover when the 500 went in for overhaul but just fell in love with the sound and sold the big'un - certainly don't miss hauling it around.
20.
Ok fair enough - I didn't think he did irony but clearly I'm mistaken
Irony is part of the genetic makeup of yer average Liverpudlian. Lennon had more than his fair share of it!
21.
£100 collected. Great inexpensive prezzie.
You're right there!
22.
What do you guys think he does well?
In response to the OP: 1) Co-writing Beatles songs; 2) Singing Beatles songs; 3) Playing bass on Beatles songs. In response to Blue: I'm about the same age as you and can at least match your enthusiasm for Macca (OK, he's my Number 1 Bass Hero!!) - but that has a lot to do with being high on teenage hormones at the time the Beatles were 'happening'. As you said yourself, Blue: "You had to be there!", so should we be surprised that those who weren't there when we were are into different things? In response to everybody else: Great thread, interesting views, and amazing just how well Beatle- and Macca-mania have stood the test of time. Last but not least, here's my thought for the day: How big an influence was George on Paul's bass playing (that's Martin not Harrison btw ).
23. It's breaking my heart seeing this fine bass languishing here 'For Sale/Unwanted'. Anyone who buys this will have a very good bass indeed at a bargain price but the link shows a couple of mod's that would turn a great instrument into an amazing one for not a lot more money. Although I'm personally happy with the OE neck humbucker, I'm planning on doing this on mine to get that bit more versatility. 24. Just to close this loop, I held out and was recently lucky enough to find on this forum a nice used example of the TE 300SMC I already have. So now I've got 2 of the best and I'm a happy bass bunny!! Glad I listened to the guys on here who said that's what I should do
25. You'd be right there Bigwan!! It really blew me away when I first tried it - and still does.
