1. Mike, does the bass have dot fret-marks on the top edge of the board - and what's the fret-board radius?
2. Thanks for that - vintage stuff and good quality vid too. Four guys at the top of their game!
3. Hey Will, I've got one of these and I love it to pieces!! "]http:// Surprised our fellow bass-chatters aren't forming a queue for yours because whoever gets it will have a fabulous and unusual bass.
4. I've had one of these for a few weeks now and I absolutely LUUUURVE it!! It delivers an incredible range of sounds and they're really accessible thanks to the brilliant control set-up. I've been gigging short-scale basses (mainly Gibsons) for years but this is by far the best s-s I've ever played. The overall feel is one of quality and substance, balance on the strap is great and (to me) it looks superb. This baby and my Hofner CT Club make the perfect pairing for the functions work I do.
5. Don't have a 'best ever', more a number of equal-bests. Most have already been posted but surprisingly no mention of The Nice - their version of America still blows me away. Remember seeing them live during Davy O'Lyst's brief spell as guitarist - his wah-wah-pedalling rendition of Little Arabella was brilliant!
6. IMHO, the only trouble with bass solos is that you suddenly loose (and miss) that low-down, rhythmic groove that (with the drums) provides the framework holding the song together. Essentially, the bassist is quitting his/her post and trying to do somebody else's job. To relate this to some of the vid's already posted: Beck and Miss Wilderbeast = gratuitous musical gymnastics; for most of the time, melodic chords from the keyboard were the only glue holding stuff together (I still wouldn't want to try and ban it tho ). The Weather Report number left me thinking: "Fabulous stuff, Jaco, but can we have some proper bass underneath that as well please?!"
7. Price now £500 - will consider trades for short-scale at equivalent value or lower plus cash.
8. Yep, that looks like his clean-shaven face - and he's got a 'horn on!!
9. EBS Classic 60, and I love it. Compact, light, nice sounds thru its 10" speaker. Saw lots of good reviews before buying.
10. Just watched the Musicare gig honouring Springsteen (recorded over the weekend off Sky Art channel). Some very good music, including some nice bass by a mature (!?) guy sporting a shortish beard/'tash, wearing a bowler hat (most of the time) and playing what appeared to be a Danelectro Longhorn to good effect. Anybody else see this and know whether it was Garry Tallent?
11. Mine works fine on my acoustic guitar but on the bass it often randomly decides not to give a reading. Haven't had time yet to establish whether there's any pattern behind the randomness, as it were. But, apart from the fact that it doesn't work (on the bass), I like it! Must say, apart from the trusty plug-in unit with selectable bass mode that I've had for years, my experience of tuner reliability on basses has not been good (needles needles jumping around all over the place etc).
12. Bumpety-bump - no SG lovers out there
13. Come on guys - this really is a great bass in top condition! Here's a review from just after it was released. http://www.musicradar.com/reviews/guitars/gibson-sg-reissue-bass-26086
14. Sorry Stephen. I'm not very good with names so please apologise to the little fella on my behalf; but you can tell him that I'll never forget his face!
15. Nipped up the road last night to meet Stephen (not forgetting Scottie dog Fergie) and try a Chowny. Very impressed - a quality piece of kit that's a really nice player. Based on last night, I'd say anybody who's ordered should give themselves a pat on the back.
16.
Well, if you're enjoying bass then you could always find a new slightly better organised band who need a bass player and focus on them as your main outlet for bass playing. If your current band are still messing you around you can always leave. I'd start looking for a new band who have roughly the same ethos that you do. It doesn't mean you have to walk away from your current band, but if they're still messing around in 6 months you aren't left feeling like you've wasted half a year.
+1 I have never looked back after switching from guitar to bass under similar circumstances - and that was in 1964 btw!!
17.
Surely it's in Durham, Durham. Durham, Durham, Durham, Durham, Durhaaaaaaam.
18. Just in case anybody's interested, I've got a spare (unused) scratch plate for a Les Paul Triumph (same as the one pictured). PM me! 19. And here they are: Forgot to mention in my OP that I'm not up for trades thanks, and would be willing to arrange delivery at cost to buyer. OK everybody, just form an orderly queue please (I wish!!) Seriously though, you won't be disappointed as this SG looks, plays and sounds great. All right, so that's thrown me - getting an error message saying that the post is too short! What to do now... talk about the weather maybe? Let's try again...
20. NOW GONE!! NOW £500!! Decided to rationalise my modest collection, so I'm selling the Ebony black SG I bought new in 2008. Having been respectfully owned and lightly gigged, there are no dings or scratches (same applies to the OE shell case inside and out). The only marks are the light surface scuffs you can't avoid with normal careful handling and are only visible on the closest inspection. Although fine as purchased, once played in this bass was professionally set up by Martyn Booth (ex-Gibson, now independent luthier) and remains straight and true. I'm not a sweater, so all metalwork and strings are in good order. This is just a heads-up in case anyone out there is itching to pull the trigger on an SG deal. I'll try and take/post more pics later today. http://i1149.photobu...zpsvq2gnuho.jpg
21. Thanks Will, let me see what I can organise - might be a while though as my mate is down in Herefordshire building a house!!
