1.
Oh and let's not forget the God that was Ronnie James Dio!
Indeed! The little man with the mighty voice. You almost had to "grow another" to sing some of his stuff matching his range and power. lol <><Peace
2. I guess the harmonica doesn't fall into any of those categories. Oh, well. I'm teaching myself how to play one now. Kinda steep learning curve initially. But then, watch out world! lol
3. That's back when I was fronting for my band. Lots of Deep Purple. Space Truckin may not have been much of a song, but damn, it was fun to sing! lol
4. Gads, I promised myself that I wouldn't post again on this thread but, I've got to say, I really like what you've done to the place!
5. Mr. Bronner seems to have received another title on BassChat . . . banned. What in the world did the idgit do to get himself banned???
6. There are multiple reasons I play in bands -- not the least of which is getting paid to play live. I enjoy the ability to create, musically. I also enjoy being able to put the cares of the day aside for a few hours and enjoy creating a moment or two of musical magic with friends that I truly enjoy being around and spending time with. Now that the children are out of the house, and the wifey has moved on, if it wasn't for the moments spent playing with band-mates, and laughing at the craziness that happens when people of completely different backgrounds and walks of life get together, life could get quite lonely. Other than recording my own original music, there's not much else to do other than popping an interesting tune on to learn how to play it. I simply refuse to live a life in which the TV is my only company after I leave my day job.
7. Wow, man. Your point has been made . . . ad-nauseum. I'd like to be able to buy you a beer if the situation ever presents itself, but, never mind. You just keep on with your shrill preaching to the rooftops. If that's what makes you happy, have at it. You own this thread -- have fun. I'm done.
8.
You say you can make it sound good, and I say let's hear, and now you have better things to do? Instead of 3 comments, you could have just put up one audio clip of the Rick recorded direct. LOL !
Wow, man. Give it a rest. So you can't get a Rick to sound good. My condolences. Others, myself included, can. For the life of me, I can't figure out why this point is being argued.
9. We'll be at one of the critter clubs (Moose Lodge). They're very appreciative of their bands (free food and they pay well), and the place is usually packed when we play -- those people just love to dance! We're usually rolling on home, after tearing down, by one. :-)
10.
Look at all of the great and inexpensive basses they make in Japan. You could have 3-4 of those for the price of one Rickenbacker. The choice isn't only between Fender and Rick. The Rick's pickup commonly suffers from a lot of noise and hum, and can't handle a broad array styles. It doesn't match up well with many bass amps. Buying a Rick is like buying one of those French Bicycles from the 1920s with the huge wheel in the front and the little wheel in the back; looks cool, but won't take you far.
That's not been my experience in the studio or on stage. I respect your right to venture your opinion and your experiences with a Rickenbacker bass. I just don't happen to share it or agree with it. But, variety is still the spice of life :-)
11. I think most would agree that they look and sound like nothing else. Had a '73 4001 that I absolutely loved that, sadly, is no longer of this world. My '80 4003, gets pulled out everytime I lust for a bass sound not generated by something with Fender on the headstock. lol YMMV
12. There are probably many very good bass players out there who can't play a lick of guitar or piano. That, in no way diminishes the power and drive of what they do when they play. Having said that, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones that can play multiple instruments when the need arises. It's especially helpful when composing music. There are piano songs of mine that never would have existed if all I could play was the guitar. Likewise, the guitar brings a completely different mindset, and a completely different feel, to a song. None of my guitar songs could have been written on a piano. The instruments we use are just tools of musical expression. The more tools we have, the more opportunities of musical expression exist. But, if the bass is the only tool we have, it behooves us to "make it matter" to the song. Playing other instruments also helps immensely in enlarging the "comfort zone" on stage when you understand where everyone is supposed to be in a song, and why. But, as always, YMMV. <><Peace
13. I'm guessing that your right hand is not your fretting hand and your age is also unclear. Be that as it may, there are a number of exercises that you can do before playing to prepare your hands for vigorous usage. I second the suggestion that you play in front of a mirror the same way that you play onstage. You may see something that surprises you. If you have a friend who also plays bass you've got an extra pair of eyes. It may be something very simple and easy to remedy. But, if you wait too long, it may become chronic. Carpel tunnel syndrome sucks and has ended the careers of many good musicians. Good Luck!
14. Pretty much anything from a Kate Bush album -- especially her first few.
15. I've got two racks that are both equiped with Korg tuners. I love them.
16. I'm quite surprised at some of the comments on this thread. People put Youtube videos on thie site all the time. The girl was quite talented. She played her part well. When did it become objectionable to acknowledge that?
17. I'm not a big fan of the group by any stretch of the imagination (though their song "Never Again" is powerful stuff) but, I actually kinda liked it. Say what you will about the group, they DO have staying power. <><Peace
18.
Have fun.
^this^
19. Have each of the musicians watch the videos from Toneknob's post and make sure that . . they . . don't . . do . . THAT!!! lol
20. I'm paraphrasing here, so bear with me: Most bands rehearse until they don't make a mistake. The great bands rehearse until they CAN'T make a mistake. If they are realistic in their expectations, they won't be unduly disappointed. If the engineer is experienced . . . listen to him. He or she knows when the levels are wrong, when there's sloppy playing, how to improve cohesion/tightness, etc. If they go into this as it being a learning experience, they'll be fine. Maybe they'll be a wee bit disappointed in the end product, but it will be something to grow on. <><Peace
21. I liked it a lot. The little camera is certainly a keeper!
22. Don't know the law over there but, couldn't you incorporate the band, thereby making it a legal entity, insure the corporation, and then, simply have an insurance rider covering the employees of the corporation -- the band members?
23. The amp is rack mounted with secure covers on the front and back. I use an Ampeg 6x10 cabinet for most of the shows. It is in a a well padded hardshell case that opens up in front for sound with a little door in back allowing it to connect to the amp. It's on large wheels located on the back allowing it to be easilly moved by just one person if necessary. When we're unloading and loading, we simply use it as a glorified handtruck on the trip from or to the trailer. lol <><Peace
24. I dunno, I thought some of them were pretty funny. The one of Geddy Lee and Lemmy got a smirk out of me. The one of Hitchcock was also pretty funny. YMMV
