1. Another vote for MarkBass here. In fact i went from a wooly old ABM307 EVOII head ;-) to a SA450 and LMII and felt it was a good move. I didnt think the tone was drastically different, but the MB heads seem to have a bit more life to them. They were also louder of course. Over the years ive found my MB heads to work well with any bass ive used and ive never had to struggle with volume using just a 2x12 cab.
2. Ed's video review is now up.
3. I got one of these last year and love it. I also have a black Snark (giggady) and a much more expensive Peterson version but i prefer the PW for gigs. It stays on the bass all night and gives me something to look at on the boring gigs.
4. I know what you mean, I can't imagine any amp lacking low end in a bedroom situation, but in my very limited experience with different heads I can certainly hear differences in low end between different heads that EQ doesn't quite fix in some. Not a definciany, just a difference. I hated the low end of my GK1001RB, I felt it was thin and weedy but I know others dont. Thank god we all have so many choices.
5. While I have never played a Shuttle the one negative comment I keep reading is the lack, for some, of low end. They are obviously good, usable amps but we all like different things and some peeps just don't seem to get on with the shuttle. I've not read anything bad about the low end on the max so I guess GB are just addressing an issue based on feedback. While I agree that EQ is really just there to tweak for the venue etc every head has a certain character that I feel you have to like first. No matter how I tweaked the EQ on my Streamliner it could never sound like my F1. That's how I see it anyway.
6. I do think the MB heads just sound right with any cab I've owned. That's probably why I've never really had amp GAS. To be honest I can't ever see me getting rid of the F1, I would need to find the money from somewhere though. I've just watched Kens Streamliner vs 9.2 max head and I definitely preferred the Max tone, even though both were pretty good. I know a YT video is no way of auditioning a amp but as both were recorded under exactly the same conditions I felt I could at least hear the difference and liked what I heard. I felt the Streamliner had more of a middy tone, good, but considering I don't need any more mids I think that why it didn't quite work for me. Do we have an estimated street price on the 6.2 yet?
7.
Agree, I have the shuttle 6 and decided to get the streamliner because I couldn't get rid of the Gas on it. Liked it but my shuttle just has something I liked a little more so sold the streamliner within a week. Haven't listened to kens demos yet, just Ed's. Will tune in tonight.
I did find the Streamliner to be a nice head, especially the 3D power management, but after using MB heads for so many years and I could only afford to have one head, so the GB had to go this time. To my ears it just seemed to lack the sparkle I was used to, even though it had a great tone. I could have lived with it if I didn't have the F1.
Dave, I think you should buy one so if I am ever interested in your F1 then you can sell me it
This is my big concern. I made the mistake of getting rid of my MB heads last year, but ended up getting the F1. I don't want this to happen again. I think it was you who persuaded me against the Shuttle 6.0 last year, based on the slightly lacking low end.
I want the Max 9.2. Don't really need cabs/combos like the 6.2 12T (although would never say no) but the Max 9.2 really does have everything I want.
Ken Jung suggested the 9.2 max last year when I was thinking of getting the Streamliner. It did tick all the right boxes but I felt it had too much I wouldn't use, and didn't want to pay more for them. Of course back then the 6.2 didn't exist but now it does...........
8. Shut up Gareth, you're not helping lol. Knowing my gigs I don't feel I need spend out for the higher wattage heads, I don't ever have to turn my F1up past 11 o'clock, although I know that's not a true indication of watts. As you know I did like the Streamliner but I felt it missed something, just going by the very limited videos I feel the new Shuttle could well be the best of both. No real GAS but quite interested none the less. Here we go again.
9. I'm much more impressed with the tone from these clips than I was from the Streamliner clips. Last time I went with the flow, even though I was never knocked out by what I was hearing, but kens video really impressed me. Could be more debt on the horizon.
10. Sorry to hear the Schroeders didnt work out Steff. They are an acquired taste IME, i think i need a change but cant afford to do it now. Good luck with the new cabs (whatever they are).
11.
I would like to buy a gigbag from them but they have a minimum purchase thing! Anyone want to club together?
There are one or two bits i'd like but when you add on the extra postage cost once the goods are back here its probably not going to save me any money using them this time. Good luck though.
12.
I didn't think I wanted a new amp till I heard/saw theses.
That's the same video Gareth posted in the first post
13.
Get some new chops, Ed.. !!!!!!
I loved the riff he played in the second part of that clip.
14.
I think we could extend this and blame Gareth for a lot of things. Lets make him the offical BC scapegoat. I'm sure he won't mind
15. :-), you can blame Gareth for that. I really only hear about new amp gear when i speak to him, i should put him on my ignore list lol.
16. Ed's got one as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=SP-OazNzPdY They sound interesting, i like the tone in these clips more than the Streamliner clips. Hmmm, maybe.......just maybe...
17.
this is lurvly.. anyone know the price point on these?
LOL, you really dont to to know :-(
18. Ooooo, another Thomann's thread. Guess we havent had one this year yet ;-) Thomanns CS is very good, buy with confidence.
19. I've never met anyone who thinks like that.
20.
Very much agreed. My gas is finally done. Ironic really as I'm bass wise virtually back where I began!
Funny enough so am I. I went in to my current band 8 years ago with just a JV Squier P, now my main bass is a Squier CV P..........loads more debt though.
21.
Gas is great if you like the thrill of the chase but a real pain when it just becomes habit. I don't want to return to how I was
Agreed, although in my case I can't afford to do it anyway. Not sure if that's a good or bad thing.
22. Shame you missed out then. I haven't seen any downside to giving them what they asked for but each to his own.
23. As I play MB heads I do prefer the MB amp sim, even though I feel it's a bit limited. The SVX plugin is also good, if you like that sort of tone. Amplitude was feel a while ago, not sure if it's gone back up in price.
24. Yep, I reached a point in my life late this year where I know buying more gear is just pointless for what I do. In fact I've become bored with the whole gear thing. I like what I have, it does the job so I have no need to look at or lust for anything else. Of course that probably won't last but for now my money will be going to help pay off the past mistakes.
25. Theres been a few threads on here about Amplitube and the others apps like this. IMO none come close to the quality of something like a Korg Pandora, but I guess it's more for convince over quality. Im still not happy with the fact that Amplitube requires you to import your music tracks so it can convert them, the GK apps doesnt need to do this and for me that makes it easier and quicker to use Having tried a few, and preferring the GK app I've realised it's not the app but the interface that makes the most difference. I tried one of the interfaces that use the 30pin connector over Christmas and it sounded much better than my iRig. I also found the amps in GarageBand on my iPhone/pad sound nicer to my ears than the specific bass apps. EDIT: my post is based on the word "app" in the OP. sorry if I got the wrong end of the stick and it's computer programs being asked about. If so ignore the above.
