Another lover of the vintage style frets. Lakland use them (i believe they are banjo frets) and this was the big draw to me. I was amazed to find them on my Squiers. I definitely notice a difference doing between med-Jumbo and vintage, although i wouldn't say its a problem for me.

My first Duck Dunn was what introduced me to Fralins. I wish i had kept that bass (and the other two i got afterwards lol).
I have looked at the Lindy Fralins, would love to hear them some more, especially in comparison to the others I'm looking at currently. On my list so far are the Lindy's, SD Antiquities, Fender Originals (Although I could have sworn they did a 60s Custom Shop P Pickup?) and I'm now about to look in to the Aquilar! Hopefully this bass will be unrecognisable after I'm done with it, I'm gonna put a maple neck on it, new bridge and sand it down and look to get it resprayed but maybe that'll cost too much, if it does I'll nab myself a second hand P bass and change the pickups!
Ive got a Fralin in my Squier. This replaced a Fender Original 62, which in turn replaced a Wizard Thumper, that replced the stock pup. The Fralin costs the most, and i love it, but out of all the pups ive had in this bass the Fender seems to be the more "woody" and classic sounding sounding pup. The Fralin does have more highs, although i wouldn't say its a much more modern sounding pup. Its just a bit clearer and smoother to my ears. Im not going to get rid of the Fralin, but if i was starting again it would definitely be the Fender that i would go for. The Fralin is nice but not £120 nice IMO, at least not in this bass. Im also not going to get rid of the fender, but it is just sitting in a box at home at the moment so if you wanted to try it out for a few weeks let me know.

Most of what I've said about playing bass on here is bollocks.

Nice one Nige. I think as other have said, we allays knew you were talking bollox, but its nice to hear you finally admit it Seriously though, you, and many more on here (definitely including me here) might not be right up there with the notes thing, although id disagree that you aren't as ive heard you play, but after you have been playing for a while, and gigging, you gain experience, and you can pass that on. You have passed on many words of wisdom on here, most definitely not bollox. I, on the other hand, talk it, practice it and preach it lol. Maybe Jake can save me one day.. -
Markbass and Schroeder. Not "old" classic, but a combination that seems quite popular (or did). P bass and flats. now this i dont get. Ive got them, i occasionally play them but i cant see the fascination in this set up. Its dull and lifeless. It seems the (mainly) Americans think you HAVE to have flats on a P bass, going by the amount of talk over on TB.

Squier Vintage Modified vs Classic Vibe
dave_bass5 replied to Jono Bolton's topic in General Discussion
There are loads of CV and VM threads on here, they have been out for quite a long time now. Some like one, some like the other. Either way both ranges offer very good value for money, and the CV's certainly way above their price point IME. I actually prefer the look and colour combo's of the VM range, but the vintage frets on the CV range are what sold me. These necks are fantastic. -
Post your pictures, Lets see what you all look like.

Not me obviously, but i do think Sam has the potential to do a good job when he gets older. He can already do a very nice "rock" ending. glad he is in to this and not bloody drums ;-) Bass pose by Dave Pearce (London), on Flickr Kiss Jr. by Dave Pearce (London), on Flickr -

Hi Steve. Things are ok. The gigs arent as forthcoming as they used to be but we are ticking over. I know what you mean about the active thing. I had a P-retro in my bass at the beginning of the year. Fantastic tones but i just felt it wasn't for me. I think the fact that i had so much choice complicated things a bit. I was always fiddling with it on stage and this sort of distracted me. Im back to passive now and much prefer it. Ive seen an active DD come up before, im not sure if this is the same one. If i had the cash id have this. Its no issue to take the pre amp out. I's also put my Fralin in it. Someone going to get a fantastic bass.

I've had 3 of these in the past, all fantastic and nothing to chose between them. I really wish I had something to offer for this. My current bass (started out as a Squier CVP) has been modded based on my past experiences with the Duck Dunn, but still no match for the real thing. Good luck with the sale Steve, not that you need it.

Is that a 'anker bass

I just tried to order it and there doesn't seem to be a way of getting it outside of the USA. This seems to be the same body as the one on the Fender website. not a bad price i guess. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2013-Fender-Standard-Precision-BASS-BODY-P-Bass-Guitar-3-Color-Sunburst-/190859866614?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item2c702271f6
I just ventured onto the Squier chat forum (ok, I know. It won't happen again). On there I saw a thread of a guy who's taken his beloved bass, given it a new body and new electrics, wiring the pots in series/parallel with a push/pull switch. He still calls it a Squier. At what point should you no-longer attribute a bass to a maker? I've got a Squier, resprayed it, Bart pups, Hipshot bridge, new elects and new machinesheads. I'm tempted to sand the brand off of the headstock. Who's right?
My Squier CV P has a Lakland neck, fralin pup, Gotoh 201 bridge and an after market PG. Not really sure what to call it these days, other than MY bass. Im very, very tempted to go for one of those $169 P bodies. I hate fiesta red and love Fender's sunburst. Im assuming there will be tax and import duty to pay on it though.

I'd say it was more a combination of things. They have different pups dont they? Id say that would explain the difference in tone more. I'd expect the Duncan Designed™ JB101 Single-Coil Jazz Bass to be a bit brighter and more in ya face. They are also made of different wood, although im not sure how that works on tone.

Unfortunately i drew a blank getting in touch with my mate, but it seems like others might have had better luck. Would be goo to find out.
-
Yeah, I was reading that thread yesterday. Shame it happened but I'm sure most of the guys that have written them will be able to help out as well. Keep up the good work.

Mine seem to be based on tone at gigs. If i can get a tone i can play off then no matter how bad the gig is, ill enjoy playing. If i dont like what im hearing from my rig then it gives me a negative feeling and i just cant get in to it. Then again, with my playing its more like bad, or just rubbish lol.
-
No problem. Yes, it is a lot of pedal for the money. If nothing else you can get a feel for a lot of pedals without having to buy them first.

I think it sounds very close in a band situation. Sound wise i would be happy with either, and in fact the B3 version also has a mid control.I do feel the BDDI has a bit more warmth to it, and is easier to tweak on the fly.
