Tubular bells, at a wedding. I kid you not. A guest came up and asked us if we could do "the exorcist bit" as a joke on one of his mates, who apparently loved all that spooky stuff.

interesting thread. The only thing i can add is that we use a small digital recorder strapped to the singers mic stand. This ensures we get a good stereo mix, with the vocals in the center coming from the monitor (when she remembers to turn it on). This can provided a very clean but live sounding audio mix that can me synced up to the video. Ive used this with my GoPro attached to a speaker stand. Its not ideal but works ok. Im very tempted to get the Q2N, it looks ideal, but with 4 GoPros in the house, and 3 DSLR's its a bit overkill.
I wouldn't have contacted him either. Cymbals and no drums, raises too many red flags. I wouldn't start making inquiries until I owned a proper kit. Blue
And no mention of sticks either :-)

I am actually looking for a drummer, and have an ad up on here. Whilst looking through Gumtree for a suitable drummer i came across a guy who was just getting back in to drummer after a few years break. Sounded ok, fairly local and seemed to know whats what. Then i noticed his ad said he had cymbals and should have the drums soon. I didnt bother contacting him.

No, not odd at all. For what its worth ive had a Lakland JO4 neck on my CV Jazz most of its life, but its also been on the CVP as well. The CVP has had the CV Jazz neck on it most of its life as well, as i prefer jazz necks, and the CV Jazz neck is one of the best ive played.

The only reason i changed the bridges on mine was because they are 20mm spacing, which i found to be not as comfortable as my usual 19mm.
-
Standard CV bridge is chunky with brass saddles, and you'll struggle to replace it with a vintage style as the hole spacing isn't standard on the CV. But £215 is a great deal!
Thats not true in the case of my two CV's. Ive had a Fender BBOT on my CVP and now both have Gotah 201's on them. Never needed to drill or fill the holes

I tihnk my issue was the reverse, i got to 800watts and had to get rid of my drummer for a quieter one lol

Ive got the 1x15 cab. Brought it without trying it, to replace my Barefaced BB2, and i can honestly say its the best sounding cab ive ever owned. I also feel its just the right size, not too big and not too small, but with a big tone.
-
I use an 800watt GK head just in case i need it. Just because ive never needed that much power before doesn't mean i wont in the future. for the cost id much rather be prepared than under powered. I hate having to push a head too hard, which i have done a few times in the past. Also it seems some manufacturers put cooler features in their higher end heads, so if you want that feature then sometimes there is no choice but to have more power. Its a hard life.
So I have picked up some Entwistle pickups for my Matt Freeman p-bass and as stated earlier the pickup covers have long ears and won't fit. I need to get different pickup covers. Finding it hard to see which ones might work. Would these be ok do you think? https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00KBYYYFW/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_4?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A30B8VBSCA3EJZ or has anyone got a link to where they got pickup covers that fitted?
Are these sealed pups or could you take out the insides and use the original covers? I think thats one of the solutions i used, although i do remember taking a file to the pickguard at first. Ive had a look but cant see where i got my covers from, but i think I actually replaced the pcikguard as well at some point and that seemed to go on fine without any modification when i had a EMG in my CVP.
I had no idea who Matt Freeman/Rancid were. I got the bass as it was the best in the price range. As a back up. Now it is my only bass.
Same. Although i didnt buy one, a MF would have been much more preferable to the CVP i did buy, purely for cosmetic reasons though.
-
One thing i found with my CVP was that although the pcikguard looks pretty standard ive had to either use the covers that came with the bass, if the new pups fit, or file down the cutouts on the pcikguard (and I had 3 different ones on my CVP over the years). Not saying this is normal, but it was frustrating.
This is a shame, I`ve always had great service from them, couldn`t fault it at all.
Same here, and ive always had quick responses to any questions etc. Been using them for years without a hitch. Maybe they have new staff member's. Gotta love the direct Facebook approach though, ive used this a few times with amazing results with Luther compactness.

On my HD 25-1 II its just a very small jewellers type of Phillips.

I could be wrong but if i recall one of the large USA music changing like GC had some custom Squiers made that only they were selling. Seeing as the wait time for the linked bass is almost a month i wonder if this is one of those, or maybe its just something that not released yet. They don't seem wildly avaible. I too have one of the red CVP's and its been a really good workhorse bass over the past 7 0r 8 years. I diont use it anymore as i have something better, i really never got to love the fiesta red look, but other than the colour i never had anything got complain about. Saying that it was modded heavily but for no other reason than it was something got do. Great value basses back then, and although the price has crept up they are still good value IMO.
Isn't that simply the history of all blues recordings
Blues and Status Quo
-
I didnt realise it was the Stone when i first heard it, i though someone had just recorded an open mic night at a local blues club for 2 hours and then just put gaps in it. Its like one of those jive bunny albums where there is a common beat going all the way through only this time its just the same 3 chords. To me it just looks like the men who dont need any more money have found an even easier way of making more without making any effort.

At the moment we are just playing the usual social club standards as we had a new guitarist join a few months ago and wanted to keep it simple. We have about 7-8 gigs booked for next year so far, all paying social club gigs, but since our drummer left earlier this month im having to turn gigs down until we have a full band. Looking to update the set list with more modern songs asap. We arent doing this full time and we all work full time, but given the right opertunity we would prefer to be doing functions or even pubs. This will only happen with a full band and a new demo etc. Until this happens we are at a stand still. We are happy if we can find someone who can commit to gigs we have, even if they are playing in other bands. We are based in central and North London. Ages between 35 and 53 (yeah, that one's me :-). Gigs are in and around the South east, and each pages min £80 each. Happy to rehearse as much as needed but gigs are the main attraction. First one is Feb so we are pretty desperate. Long shot i know but here's hoping.

Fault or not Fault? Thomann`s customer service

If the bass is faulty, and it seems like it is if it won't tune up then it needs to go back. He told them he wanted a new, different bridge. Why on earth would a shop do that for free? Does this mean if you buy a cheap bass that's neck heavy you can ask for a set of Hipshot ultralites to fix this ;-) -
they were not offering to fix the issue, they were offering to take money to fix the issue But it does look like they did not really understand the issue in the first place, or they thought it was caused by the OP.
In his first post he said he told them he didnt want to send it back in his first contact with Thomanns. He also suggested a different bridge was needed, and they were offering to supply one but at his cost. Sounds reasonable to me considering he didnt want to send it back for replacement. -
I thought we were just to agree with the OP that he'd got terrible service and list the thousands of times Thomann has shafted us. Oh and follow it up with a pledge of support to never buy from them again.
The OP went even further, he refused to let them fix the issue lol. -
No return offered so maybe they assumed I did the mess.... Have nothing to do and drill holes to screw up my intonation(?) Cheers, Tomas
You told them you didn't want to return it, so isnt that an indication to them that the offer to return it isnt an option you want to go for? To say they must be assuming you did it because they are going along with your wishes seems a strange comment to make.
