  1. When we learnt Footloose a couple of years ago we learnt it from the Daryl’s house version.
  2. Cheers for the info. Its something i may do in the near future if I’m still not settling with it. At the moment the bass is spot on so I’m going to leave things alone. All the tools have gone away and I’m just enjoying playing it. Really, .5mm difference is really not an issue as far as playing goes, its more when i look at it that it seems high, and I think the fact that its raising above the 12th fret (Where i never go) makes it look higher than it is.
  3. Maybe I’m just used to the gloss my other necks have. I dont sweat too much when playing but the other night it felt like my hand was glued to the neck. All my basses are shimmed, i prefer to do that as i like to keep the string height as even as possible to the neck, but with this bass sounding so good i don’t want to start messing with it too much. I also wonder how the 6 bolt system will handle a shim. EDIT: Ah, of course, the Fender is shimmed. That explains it. Dont know why i didnt think of thats before. To be honest i like the action on the P34 at the moment, I’m just hoping it doesn't change.
  4. BJ = 😲
  5. Thought I’d do a quick update on my P34. Tomorrow is the first gig with it so this is just based on a rehearsal and 3 weeks at home. First off i love the tone. Its not quite as thick as my Fender P, but has a bit more mid poke, which is really cool. Ive always strived to get a finger tone, as i play mostly with a pick and don’t really like it a lot of the time. I can normally get close to sounding like finger playing with my BDDI, but this bass seems to get me very close without needing any effects. In fact i think this bass shines without needing my much loved BDDI. Ive always felt the need for a pre amp pedal in the past, but the P34 seems to not need it. The notes are all very articulate and clear, which makes me play better. The notes also all seem very well balanced volume wise, and ive started to use the higher frets on the E string more. In the past these got a bit too thick and boomy. It sounds silly but i find i can groove better with this bass. Even the band said it made them sound better lol. I can now start to produce the tones and style ive tried to in the past, but without the compromises i kept finding. I’ve been struggling for two weeks to get this playing As good as when it arrived. Since changing strings it’s almost got to the point where when i sit down to play, i get the Allen keys and ruler out. Maybe I’m obsessing too much about the action, but my Fender has a 2mm action on the E, and I’d expect, maybe wrongly, that this bass can do it as well. In fact i put some EB Slinky’s on it and took them off two days later, they just felt very wrong. Ive never used them before though so its not a bass issues. Ive recently started using Pro Steels, which i love for thair tone and feel. Its probably more an OCD thing, but most of my other basses can get a 2mm action, yet this one struggles, even though none of the frets are high. In fact i cant find any faults with this bass at all, so i guess its just me and i will settle down. Same strings on my 425, Fender P and P34. The 425 ive not really bothered with, it plays fine and i dont think ill be using it much anyway. The Fender wont get used much as ive found a better P bass now. I notice Yamaha suggest 3mm action at the E/12th. Thats pretty high for me, but i can settle on 2.25mm. one slight concern though, is the truss rod. To get a decent bow in the neck, say .013 - .015, the TR nut feels like its not even gripping. Its not rattling, and if i turn it th either way its working fine, but it just feels very loose. Never had a TR that felt like this before. I’m hoping its ok, and my one fear is the relief will change on its own. In fact I’m starting to think it is, and thats why i keep adjusting the bass. At the moment though its spot on and i played it for a sold 3 hours last night. I’d love to say ‘this is the one’, and once i get over the setup issues I’m sure ti will be. Ive never had such a perfect tone from a P bass. In fact I’d say there is a bit of that jazz snarl in there, and thats just from the neck pup. The one big negative is the finish on the back of the neck. I really hate it. I much prefer gloss, as i tend to slide my hand rather than just move it. Poor technique probably, and Its not that i cant play it, but i find its very sticky. Ill probably get it glossed at some point, but for now ill live with it. Anyway, the feeling is i made the right choice getting this (thanks again Bas), and i has rekindled my interest in playing again. Gig report to follow tomorrow. Its at the Hampstead summer festival so a good starter.
  6. Sounds like the name of a band 😄
  7. You guys do know that Headstock is one word right? 🙂
  8. If you haven't seen this show its well worth watching. Most of its on YouTube.
  9. Nope, never have, although sometimes through amazon. Mostly i buy from Andertons, GAK and G4M. As i said, Amazon is my first port of call, but that doesn’t mean i only buy from them. In fact for instruments they are useless, but i still look first. I dont drive, work 5-6 days a week, i dont have time to go to shops, and to be honest I prefer to buy on line and have the safety net of having 14-30 days to return something if i dont like it. I recently got a bass on line that was £150 than the nearest competitor, but the shop is about 600 miles from me. I asked my local stores and the above stores to match and none wanted to know. The shop i used is a small shop in Glasgow, so in a way i did support them, it just wasn’t local to me lol. .
  10. I’m a huge fan of this series, but I only just came across this episode and it blew me away. Such a lovely groove.
  11. Or even delivered the same day as ordered. I use Prime Now quite a bit, although admit its mainly for booze and snacks. I did get them to deliver a set of bass strings a while ago though. Ordered 3.30pm on a Sat, arrived just after 8pm that evening, along with 2 bottles of wine and a litre of Rum lol.
  12. Amazon is my first port of call for any purchases, even socks or deodorant 🙂 I work very hard and have no issues trying to make my money go further. I tried supporting my local music shops years ago, but realised they weren't doing much to support their customers.
  13. Haha, well put. The Yammy and Mojomojo will have their first gig on Sunday. Im not even going to bother taking my BDDI.
  14. Over the last couple of days ive re-discovered my Mojomojo OD. I got it last year and used it once, didn't really feel it was what i was after, and it went in the drawer until Wednesday. Ive been a huge lover of the BDDI tone, and as much as i try and get away from it i keep going back. in fact i recently got a Programmable BDDI, as well as having a BDDI v2. Since getting my Yamaha P34 ive preferred the tone without the BDDI, its seem to take away some of the mid punch. It works well with my Fender P bass, but the P34 is not an average P sounding bass and loses something when i use a BDDI. My COG 66 Knightfall sounds more neutral and could be 'the one' if it wasnt for the fact that i dont want to use mains powered effects at the moment. The Mojomojo seems to be just perfect for what im looking to do now though.
  15. Have you seen the Boss WL-60? not as cheap as some but looks interesting.
  16. As I’m only using two pedals now i have to plug my receiver in to the side of my MXR filter. On the floor. I use a right angled male to female adaptor so its not sticking out of the side of the pedal in a way that if i stamp on the pedal it will snap off.
  17. You do know you were the second person to post about using Xvives dont you lol.
  18. This is what i used before getting the G30. Ive still got it somewhere. It never gave me any issues other than as you say, battery life can be quite short. Before this i had the AKG Bug. Again, no issues.
  19. For me it was cost. I knew i wouldn't be playing any large venues, we are a self contained function band. The Line6 has been more than stable enough. Ive now gone to the Boss only because its smaller and doesn't need a PSU so more convenient for me.
  20. As i posted above, the standard WL-20 has a freq attenuation that is supposed to emulate a cable. I found it a bit too severe. Personally i prefer the full range version and knock the top end off on my amp if needed. Better to give the signal a fighting chance IMO.
  21. One of the nice things about the Boss WL-20 system is there are 14 channels, so less chance of clashing with someone else. The system scans the area and finds the least congested channel. The downside is there is no way of setting this manually.
  22. i used to get 3 gigs (2/12 max per gig) out of one charge, using Eneloop Pro's rechargeable with my G30.
  23. Did you see my post about the cable tone? I couldnt beam any TC Electronics Tone Prints via my WL-20, although i can with the WL-20L that i replaced it with. I can also do this with a 30ft cable so my thoughts are there is a bit too much attenuation going on with the WL-20. i only used it for one rehearsal and i also felt the tones wasn't as bright as i was used to with my Xvive 2. .
  24. Anyway, Foo fighters are on Sky Arts so I’m watching that now.
  25. Christ oh mighty, really? Are you serious? Do I expect a band on TV to tailor their set for me lol. Ive been very complimentary about them, and ive said i never liked them in the past, so there is no ‘by the sound of it’, and ive posted WHY I don’t like this song. I guess you are one of those that jump in with insults without reading a thread. Now go away and leave me alone.
