Picking up on the above, and also only owning it for a day, i can understand the comment about the P bass. my Fender P sounded a bit muddy, BUT my P34 sounded noticeably clearer with just the neck pup. I find this to be true between the two basses anyway, so its not really a comment on the pedal itself, plus the P34 has the ability to dial in a bit more bite from the bridge pup. Ive also found this to be true using the Mojomojo. It just didnt work for me using my Fender, a bit too warm sounding. So yeah, works with some but not all.

Dear Guitarists and bassists.. Trus rod etiquette.
dave_bass5 replied to Nibody's topic in General Discussion
Ive never had issues with truss rod adjustment, and i do it under tension if im loosening it, or i loosen the strings if tightening it (sometimes). Strangely my new bass has no nut resistance at all to get it to the relief i want. i think i might have issues later on. it does grip if i tighten it so its not stripped. -
Cheers. I like the fat setting the best, but also feel the Mid setting keeps the character of the bass more. Lots of experimentation to be done but overall i like how it doesnt change too much of the natural tone.

Got my Spark today and so far I’m impressed. Only used it with headphones and my Spectradrive, but good call @Jazzmaster62 on getting this over the BB. If nothing else ive saved quite a bit. I compared it to the Mojomojo and it does seem more open. Dirt is more than enough, although I’ll know tomorrow night when i go to rehearsals. I’m not sure if this is THE ONE, but out of all the OD/drive pedals i have its the closest to what I’m looking for.

And to think, he designed all those Sire basses without breaking in to a sweat lol. I get the impression Sire are pulling out all the stops to promote this one. I bet they have a lot riding on this.

I must say ive been amazed at how well dirt works for helping sound clean but punchy in the mix.

Good post Krispn, makes a lot of sense. I do in fact have my Mojomoj to be slightly louder when its on, as i find with mild dirt things can get a bit lost, so i wasnt too worried about the TH having a boost, but it just seemed to make me suddenly jump out of the mix, and didnt seem easily controllable. When i had my Q/strip I found that careful use of the upper mids could actually get me more dirt, without even using a OD/Drive. This sounded more natural to me, but of course thats not a Motown tone.

I also find neither of my Yamahas sound as P bass as my Fender, but for me that seems to be a good thing. The Yamaha’s have a bit more clarity to them. Then again the P34 doesn’t sound like the 425 either. The 425 has a fuller tone to my ears, but I still prefer the P34 and I don’t really depend on a certain bass for anything, so it’s P34 all the way. As I play with a pick im never going to get too close to authentic Motown anyway Good to hear the Spark isnt too far off the mojomojo I’m hoping it will fix the small niggles I have with the MM

Yes, sorry if i wasnt clear. My idea was to have it on all the time giving a nice warming tone, and then hit the switch and get dirtier, but without a noticeable jump in volume. Just flat, or at least to my liking. Just using the Mojomojo for certain songs rather than always on. I don’t find a huge jump in tone when engaging it.

Yes, you will find that there’re are so many shared features within the Sire range that it can get a bit ‘samey’. Almost all have the same preamp and bridge, and many have the newer rolled edge necks.

This volume jump is what put me off getting the Tonehammer. I ended up going for the COG Kinghtfall 66. Although the two channels share a common tone/EQ section each has its own drive and level knobs. It works really well as an always on warming tone, and then kicking in the other channel with more drive, but without changing the tone or level (unless you want to).

I think my post above answered that 😉

Once you start daisy chining you might as well have a pedal board. Ive got a 1Spot and a 5 way splitter so plenty of options.

Cant comment on this bass, but when i had a Gen2 P7 with the rolled edge fingerboard it felt very comfortable, and nicer than my Gen 1 V7. Could be my style of fretting, i tend to grip the neck (maybe i shouldn't), but the P7 felt less sharp, and so more comfortable. Definitely something i would prefer on all my basses, although not a deal breaker if not.

Ive had a few DG pedals, never really got on with them. I found them to be good for some stuff but not at the just breaking up stuff. At least, not without sounding a bit dark to my ears. The Mojomojo seems like a good first port of call, before moving on the more more expensive stuff. You can borrow mine if you want to try it.

Mine 'should' be here tomorrow as well, but it wont as its going to my work address and we dont open at the weekend. So Monday for me.

I have a very nice Cioks DC-5, and a One Spot (amongst others) so its not that i dont have the power already, i just don't want the extra to carry around. I agree, having to change batteries can be a pain, but im not gigging much anyway. If i start to gig more regularly then ill probably get the Pedaltrain back out. Fro now its more about rehearsals and travelling as light as possible.

Its probably just a phase I’m going through. Ive used a Line6 G30 for years, so have always had to plug that extra PSU in. Not a problem at all. Then I got a pedal board to put it on and all hell broke loose. I was buying pedals almost every week to put on there, then got a larger one within 4 months. I’m trying to go pedal free, but do want to use a filter (MXR) and one other dirt/OD box (not 7 pedals that are still on my board), although i don’t really need it as such. I want everything to fit in the amp bag, as I normally get the train to and from rehearsals, so bass, and one bag is all i want to take.

I have a COG Knightfall 66 which i love, but never use as I’m really trying to stay battery powered (other than the amp). I expect i will use it again, when i use my pedal board. What i love about the COG is its two channels, both sharing the EQ but with different gain and level control. Really, this is perfect for me other than the power supply. One reason i recently got a programable BDDI, as i can have a good tone, and then more of the good tone with drive, but found i prefer my BDDI V2 tone to the old style BDDI. The problem with me is i buy gear looking for a certain tone, but quickly decide i dont want that tone and really want something else. I have a few nice pedals that are more than up to the job, but none are battery powered. If i start using mains again ill end up using my pedal board, and i dont want that as i want things a lot more simple.

I wonder who will be first to put theirs in the classifieds lol. Mines arriving Monday (went for the cheapest delivery option), and i have a rehearsal on Tuesday so hoping for good things.

🤣🙄🤣

Nah, you were calling me out personally over this. It really doesn't bother me what you think, but dont deny it. You made two comments that had a tone to them, directed at me personally, and then its me being sarcastic lol. And asking me if i have shares in Amazon sounds a bit sarcastic to me. Wonder where the post about me starting this thread went 🙄

Only thing i can think of right now is we were in a different room, and one that is next to the main reception area. Could be the wifi is stronger there. Back to our old room on Tuesday so ill keep an eye on it.

Agreed, but im still confused as to why this one time only. I tend to plug mine in last, and always do a rescan before (at rehearsals anyway), once his are on.
