Do you sit your bass on left or right leg when playing?
dave_bass5 replied to Chrisbassboy5's topic in General Discussion
To me it feels correct having the bridge sitting as close as it does when standing. Having it on the left leg pushes it too far away from my natural plucking position, and as mentioned earlier means a bit of a torso twist. -

Never thought this question would come up, but yeah, right leg for me and i play right handed. It just feels a lot more comfortable to me. -
Haha, my cover story is holding out so far.....

Im using my 425 a bit more at home at the moment. I can see me getting rid of the P34 if im not careful 😞

The 'little things' that make bass life better!
dave_bass5 replied to Al Krow's topic in Accessories and Misc
Same here. I used to use cassette recorders with an external mic, then DAT, then MD and now fully digital. I record all our rehearsals and gigs. Its the one piece of gear that always gets used when I’m in an band environment, no matter what else I use. Currently using a very nice and small Roland R-07 which i can control from my phone and even my Apple Watch. Gotta love progress....sometimes. -

I think it was mentioned that they are pub gigs with vocal PA. I recently asked about one of these on here, after seeing the Quilter amp. Seems quite good value and very small and powerful. https://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_block_800b.htm or even the tc electronic BQ500 Bass Head which is less than £200. Also has aux in and headphone out for home practice. Maybe a cab like the TCE RS112 (only from Andertons or Gear4music though).

Help me pick a pickup set for my Jazz bass.
dave_bass5 replied to sirmuppet's topic in Repairs and Technical
Ive had a set of Wizard 74's in my Jazz bass for years, but never really felt they were what i wanted. Just recently i put a set on Fender Custom Shop Custom '60s in it and this is the tone ive been looking for in a Jazz. It easily holds its own with my P bass now, and i too play with a pick so things can get a bit thin with the wrong pickups. Not cheap, but worth it if they work for you. -

Yep, we used to do that and yep, the bass made that last note 🙂 -
Suggestions for Songs to learn for a 5-string
dave_bass5 replied to Stub Mandrel's topic in General Discussion
This i think is the best approach, especially if you arent convinced or sure that a 5 string is the way forward. I started playing like this and slowly started adding in new fretting positions and utilising the B string more around the middle of the neck. I actually found playing 5 string improved my 4 string playing as well, as i was starting to use different fret positions. Oh, and the over use of a low D to finish any song that ends on D 😂 -
No problem, the names are very similar. I’m not a fan of the bug transmitter, but they seem to becoming very common in the under £200 price point. I use a Boss WL-20L but got it as I wanted to go completely wire free. I’ll probably get a smoothhound when I do go back to using a PSU of some sort.

Is it the same with the G10S, the one I posted about? EDIT: Not the same thing at all.

Have you looked at the Line 6 G10s? Latency is a bit less than the Sen and it looks like quite a cool system. Also cheaper than the other two systems. https://www.andertons.co.uk/line-6-relay-g10s-digital-wireless-guitar-system-w-pedal-sized-receiver-grelayg10s

Ive got one of those. Dangerous in the wrong hands or if you sneeze at the wrong time lol. I now use the EB power string winder, although its a lot slower. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ernie-Ball-P04118-Power-Peg/dp/B0019H6750/ref=asc_df_B0019H6750/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=310872962114&hvpos=1o1&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9720761779151026713&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9045888&hvtargid=aud-545868369748:pla-382562542799&psc=1&th=1&psc=1 -

Clip on tuners as well. Got a few of those, and love the TC Electronic ones, but even the £10 Snark tuners have been great for gigs etc. -

Suggestions for Songs to learn for a 5-string
dave_bass5 replied to Stub Mandrel's topic in General Discussion
I got my first real 5 string as i was playing in two different bands, playing very similar set lists but in different keys. The singer in the second band didn't have quite a range as the first, so they played a lot of songs quite low. For me it was easier to get a 5 string and just play the same way, but lower. The second band was just a dep gig so i didn't want to mess with my muscle memory for the first band. Other than that, and being able to play Superstition in Eb i cant say i need a 5 string, but i do enjoy messing about on them (and yes, i have two). -

i had one a while ago and lost it, but got a new one yesterday. I mainly need it for playing the middle bit in All right now. Playing with a pick i find i end up letting the E string ring, when it should be the A. The FW works well for muting the open E. It also looks cool. i explain to people its a sweat band because i play so fast lol. -

I agree. Mine work on all my basses but not 100% on the Yamaha 425, unless i press the transmitter in harder and dont bump the bass. You can feel like a double click when you push it in, but the jack socket is trying to push it back out to the first position, which cuts off the signal. -

Yep, been using those Velcro ties for years. I insisted the band use them for our PA leads as they woudl otherwise get tangled up and waste too much time at gigs setting up. Then we all started using them. If we are talking cheap things then i guess its been Eneloop Pro batteries. Its all i use these days and never had one go bad (yet). A bit high and i guess the Zoom B1 Four as its something i use almost every day. -
its such a shame Boss put that nice display on the receiver but didnt add a tuner to it. Would have been so easy to do.
