  1. Now you mention it, thats exactly how i felt about them. They did the job for a few gigs, but i felt the bass sounded 'cheap' somehow. Lacked body and depth, just a bit, but enough to bug me. At the time i also had a HW-1 Jazz, so had something to compare to. I got a set of Wizard 84's, but found them a bit dark sounding. Andy took them back and made me a set of 74's (which i believe were custom order only). Had those in the bass right up until earlier this year, when i got the Fender CS set.
  2. Never had a stuck truss rod, and i don't believe you need to adjust them just to keep them working. I do accept some get stuck for whatever reason though, but its not that IME.
  3. If i had to use a truss rod tool a lot I'd be questioning why i brought a crappy bass, not the tool.
  4. I had 2 of these quite a few years ago, got them from Music Yo. I swapped one for the Homer Jack version but never really liked it. I had no complaints at all with the Select pups, nor the feel and playability. I still have a 4 string XZ-2. I dont use it anymore but my son likes it. It must be at least 20 years old now. Never had any upgrades to it.
  5. What about HX+ MC6 🙂 As ive said, my reasoning to get the HX was the way its laid out and easy to read. The scribble strips, the ability to change settings using just feet, the lack of any extra leads, the large tuner, the smallish footprint, the ease of programming (over the Stomp).
  6. Thanks for the heads up. Ill let the driver know about the road situation. When we got the band back together we agreed we wont be playing the clubs, but they seem the easiest to get for us (via agents i had before). Still, we haven't been to Cove before so im optimistic. Totally agree about the audiences at most of these. The ones that sit at the front moan you are too loud, the ones at the back cant hear us. Unfortunately it seems the 'moaners' are the veteran members who more or less call the shots, have had 'their seat' since WW2 and wont move because, well see previous comment lol. Our drummer isnt the most delicate player, but it looks like the room can take us.
  7. Musicguard also do this, although ive never had to make a claim Actually on the subject of musicguard, ive been with them for years, never made a claim, but at the moment im having really difficulty getting new gear added to my policy. They are just ignoring my emails. Will be going elsewhere after this weekend.
  8. I'd love it if Line6 had included a wireless receiver in the Helix. That would be so cool IMO.
  9. I would play what i considered the hardest song on their set list.
  10. No idea about that one, but can i ask you what the Ivy Leaf in Cove is like? We are playing there soon and i see you are also playing there next year.
  11. I always buy a spare. Amazon have 1000's of them.
  12. Glad you posted this, it will help me track mine down. They all look the same to me 🙂
  13. That was the answer i was going to give as well. Yes, it can do it, but its not easy to explain how to someone that hasn't a clue how it works to start with (no offence meant).
  14. You could get something like a Zoom B1-Four (or the cheaper B1-On) to replace the Korg. That way at least you can continue to record in the normal way.
  15. Cool semi-info. I would assume, like in my case, the pups were taken out because they weren't to ones liking, in which case I'd say Tonerider pups are nothing special, especially because 1, ive never heard of them, and 2, i didnt like them. Same goes for my CVP, although not quite as much as the Jazz.
  16. Had another rehearsal last night, same room etc. It was rock solid. Still worrying though.
  17. Just returning the favour after you persuaded me to get the Stomp (also without trying).
  18. Never even thought about that. Cant see me ever doing it, but I suppose one or two large smartphone protectors trimmed to size would work fine.
  19. Never heard this before. Not disclaiming it, but its the first time ive heard about it. Are these good pups then? Never heard of them either lol.
  20. This is an original CV, is that what you are referring to, or the new, lesser CV range?
  21. Lovely colour. I like strong colours.
  22. I play with a pick and struggle with tone. Just cant get away from certain traits that pick playing has, but the CS pups seems to be very sympathetic to my playing style. Probably just a placebo effect owing to the fact that the pups cost so much, but the bass does seem warmer and clearer, without having too much up top. I tend to stick to Fender's spec when it comes to set ups, and then tweak as needed. Most of the time i dont need to. I also have the neck shimmed and this really makes the action feel better for me. This bass has been used as a beater bass, with different necks and bridges etc, its the bass that has had the most mods, but its at a stage where its just perfect. Now if only i didnt have a £1300 bass sitting in a gig bag not getting played......
  23. Agreed. It took me a few rehearsals to get the balance just how i want it, but from the start i felt the CS pups gave me a tone I'd been looking for since i got the Jazz. Certainly it now sounds better to my ears than any other Jazz ive had.
  24. Very easy. You do have to use the software but you just copy all the IR's to a section in the main window and they get stored on the Helix automatically. You then just select the IR block on the pedal (or in the Edit software), and turn a knob until you find one you like the sound of.
  25. Touché Mr Krow 🤗
