3.
i miss my pulsar!
I get a cool effect when I run the pulsar into the flanger, the two skip in and out of phase and make it sound way more intersting than it really is. Im going to try it out on the intro to Black Hole Sun tomorrow, in the living room it sounds great so hopefully will sound just as good with the band.
4. Heres my hastily assembled board in the small case for tomorrow. Ive only got the bare essentials from the big board, so nothing too wacky - no space for the delay or POG.
5.
Nope ... not unless you want to offer me absolutely silly quantities of the folding stuff.
Silly enough?

SOLD

How about a Pro-Co Dirty Rat?
7. I was getting fed up with what I thought was an unreliable daisy chain, but Im now starting to think Im overloading a single power supply - with 1300mA I should have enough but Ive learnt to be wary of manufacturers specs. Whatever the problem, Ive been on the lookout for something better. Cheers for the Power Plant Junior recommendation, Ive now got a couple on order. Should be plenty of power and the lack of ground loops will be nice. EDIT: speling
8. One piece of advice I got from a friend - if you plan on flightcasing your board, then buy the flightcase first and build the board to fit. The other way round is madness. Most flightcases for pedal boards are made from a board with a lid, so do a good job in their own right. And, get a board thats big enough - or have a very strict replacement strategy. They take up more space than youd think.
9.
It can be turned off in the second version. I like it a lot. Found the VT to be too dark for my liking.
Really? Ive got my V1 set to 'clank' and I love it.
10. Doesnt look like you can switch it off. :/
11. I bought Andys Blackfinger compressor - very easy to deal with, quick delivery, perfect BC transaction!
12. I got my Dirty Rat because out of all the dirt boxes I tried that day, it sucked the least bass from the tone. YMMV.
13. I would recommend experimenting with mixing and matching. Im currently playing around with a couple of Tech21 character pedals in a parallel configuration to simulate biamping, with one being driven by a ProCo Rat. Its very similar to Sibobs blend, but its blending two slightly driven tones rather than one distored and one clean. Yeah, distortion is a very personal thing, all the Tech21 pedals can do a nice mellow overdrive or a heavy crunch, but getting that middle gound proved tricky.
14. One thing to point out - when you have a very complex setup like that, you can often find yourself twiddling the knobs trying to find the hidden sound that justifies all the complex wiring, which stops you trying any simpler options which may sound better.
15. Im undecided - I personally cant see what would be achieved by having four parallel loops, but then its not my sound we're playing with. I like modulation and delays / reverbs to follow the dirt boxes, but then Ive never tried them in parallel.. Ive got two parallel loops with bits switched in and out on my pedal board and Im sure it would also look odd on paper.
16. I got the Blonde to complement the VT, Im wondering if I should have gone for the Leeds instead. Humph.
17.
Sounds fun. I could donate a Matamp GT200 Head for the valve bit. And you'd be welcome to turn the knob to full if you like, I know I have.
Ahh, brilliant! So, we need some kind of loop sampler, an SPL meter, a voltmeter, a couple of Compacts (Alex? ), and a nice big solid state amp (Merton?)
18. Ok, what would be really interesting, and would put alot of myths to bed: 1) create a sampled loop of a bass playing live on the day. 2) play this out through a cranked valve amp into one of Alexs cabs 3) put an volt meter or similar measuring device on the output of the amplifier, so that we can get a rough estimate of the RMS voltage (yes, I know P=V^2/R - bear with me) 4) record the spl coming out of the speaker - possibly whist observing from the next county. 5) swap out the valve amp for a solid state amp 6) match the spl 7) measure the voltage RMS required to get the same SPL. 8) calculate the difference in power and / or dB required to match the two. Does anyone have any kit to try out this experiment?
19.
I should be there as usual. Dunno if anyone would want to put up with me banging on about anything again this year. If anyone does fancy another comical tirade about the perils of one knob compressors or the lies that abound in the world of recordings then feel free to ask....
Yep, please do - either of the above.
20. I agree, with power valves its all about the feel, I dont know why but a big tube amp at the same spl as a solid state amp jusk kicks you in the gut when you dig in.
21.
I'll need to get a quote on a pre-owned time machine. If I get one at a decent price anyone want a trip back with me?
If you do get the time machine in time, then I'd be happy to share petrol money / plutonium for the flux capacitor.
22. Sold! So heres a question, how do I edit the topic title to put SOLD instead of FS? We could do that with the old forum software?
23. There is something all encompassing and grinworthy about playing through a big Matamp, I dont know what it is, but they do something magic with those valves. Could I be rather rude and ask if this beasie will be making it to a bass bash this year? Im sure loads of us would love to have a wee look...
